donnawoz Posted January 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2018 WE want some views on Celebrity- Reflection vs. Royal Caribbean- Jewel of the Seas. Is there a big difference? Same itiierary. Rare CruisinShips Posted January 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2018 You're probably gonna have to be a little more detailed in your question....like what's important to you, price sensitive vs. overall quality, kids or no kids, age group, etc.
marieps Posted January 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2018 The kids or no kids is a big part of the difference certainly, as would be age of the vessel.
Luvcrusn Posted January 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Also no smoking in the anywhere indoors including the casino on celebrity. Better food and service. Quieter, more sophisticated atmosphere than Royal. If cruising with younger kids I'd choose Royal. Older, you'd have to judge your kids, no kids, definitely Celebrity. OCruisers Posted January 10, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Celebrity would be our choice because we've enjoyed our Celebrity cruises much more than we have our RCCL cruises! :)
NordicPrince Posted January 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Without even doing any research I can tell you off-hand that there will be a sizable price difference between the two with Celebrity being much more expensive. Reflection is a much newer ship and a very nice S-class ship at that. In fact the largest of the S-class. So you will be paying for that. We've enjoyed every one of our Celebrity and RCCL cruises so if price is your determining factor you'll be going with RCCL. Enjoy your cruising days. AIROHS Posted January 10, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2018 We quit cruising RCCL because the last time we did i ordered the battered Haddock in the MDR and received Captain Highliner little triangle fish sticks. Unbeleivable for a cruise line very disappointing. Celebrity is much better,
ElmaLee Posted January 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 10, 2018 We have cruised on both as a couple. Reflection is much bigger and newer. We enjoyed both cruises. There are a few differences in the way things are organised in the ships but both are good. We went in Jewel from Rome last September. Jewel does not let you book anytime dining in advance, while Reflection lets you reserve times before you go. We like dancing and Jewel has a dance floor in the Safari Club at stern. They don't use it every night and it was often quiet but the band were good. On Jewel they use the atrium a lot for entertainment but it is small and they put seats in the dance floor so little chance to dance. Food on both was enjoyable and we would do either again, if price and itinerary suited.
George C Posted January 10, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 10, 2018 In general I prefer rccl because of the entertainment , but jewel is not one of the larger ships no I’ve skating rink with ice show etc, I would pick reflection
publicpersona Posted January 11, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 11, 2018 RCCL has more activities and energy. Celebrity has better service and food, with quite a bit older demographics. We consider RCCL the Target of cruising, and Celebrity the Macy's (Carnival is the WalMart). We used to prefer RCCL more when we started cruising almost 30 years ago, but these days, the demographics on Celebrity have come to match our own. Funny how that happens. Rare keesar Posted January 11, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 11, 2018 RCL has a higher energy level and younger cruisers. More dancing, families with children, and liveliness on RCL. Food is a little better on Celebrity. Expect to pay more on Celebrity. More elderly on Celebrity.
bigbenboys Posted January 11, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Rcl is more fun. So the question is. Are you looking for fun on a cruise ship or are looking to do sightseeing in Eastern Mediterranean. We have done the Eastern Med 3 times know. Our favorite part of the world to cruise. I would pick Reflection is a beautiful ship. The restuarants The Porch (Seafood) and Lawn Club Grill (Steak:I did not like the ribeye).
OCruisers Posted January 11, 2018 #14 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Just adding a note. Our grandchildren liked the activies more on Celebrity more (lots more personal attention) when they were young vs RCCL and NCL. They were also fine with Princess. harola Posted January 11, 2018 #15 Share Posted January 11, 2018 We were on Reflection last year (Mediterranean) and before we did a cruise on Jewel (transatlantic). Reflection is a much nicer ship with better service and the food is really good. Jewel is beautiful but the food was not good quality and few choices. Service is so so. If you’re planning to go ashore everyday and not spending much time on the ship you could choose Jewel which is probably less expensive but I would choose Reflection. Celebrity is much better, That's why you quit RCCL..over fishsticks?!:') I like the fact Celebrity has better food and less children.....but I am concerned that it maybe too much of a quiet difference from Royal from everything I have read. I defn enjoy good live music....dj's and nightlife with a crowd around.....

We did a sister ship of jewel on a 12 day Europe cruise the brilliance , there was not that much nightlife , I am sure larger ships which we normally cruise on have way more
Rare Miaminice Posted January 11, 2018 #18 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Since Jewel isone of the smaller RCI ships and Radiance class can not be compared to the larger floating amusement parks of RCI, I guess that is not what you are looking for anyway. So the Reflection is probably the better choice. Although the Radiance class ships are nice (have been on all oft hem but Jewel) I would definitely prefer Reflection. After many cruises with RCI we switched to Clebrity and never went back. For those looking for a more laid back and maybe a bit more upscale atmosphere, Celebrity is a good choice.Reflection is one of the nicest ships. Very modern, compared to the somewhat traditional Radiance class, stylish and quite loungy. More on the trip to the Greek Isles on Reflection in our review: http://travellove.one/Our-Trips/Reflection-Eastern-Med-01/reflection-eastern-med-01.html And here´s more on Reflection: gNkuHGggaMc
tabby50894 Posted January 11, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 11, 2018 One thing to check is how much time you are in port. Even though the itineraries may look the same, the actual time you are docked may be different, and may help you make up your mind.

RetiredCruiser2015 Posted January 11, 2018 #22 Share Posted January 11, 2018 ROFL love your analogies:D Is there a Nordstrom? Agree with all the comments. We did the Greek Isle cruise on Reflection last year and loved it. We too prefer Celebrity over RCL for many of the reasons stated. It really is more about your priorities, we find the service, ambiance, and food quality on Celebrity much better than RCL which is important to us. Celebrity also has better amenities and perks for their suite guests. Less children on Celebrity...pool is not as crazy. We have met a lot of great people on Celebrity and still keep in touch with a lot of them. Sent from my iPad using Forums

4774Papa Posted January 12, 2018 #24 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Please define “elderly”. When I was a teenager I though anyone over 50 was elderly. A will be 70 in a few days and elderly would be over 80. When I am 80, I suppose it will be over 90.
