Smoking - Celebrity Reflections

We are looking to book a large family cruise for June 2019 to Ireland and Iceland. A few in our group smoke cigarettes and cigars. From what I’ve read, all of the smoking areas on the Reflection are outside? My research shows a high of 45 degrees which would make it quite cold for being outside to smoke. I’m just wondering if someone can confirm that on that route, there is not an area inside for smokers? Thanks so much!

No smoking on balconies also. The limited outside smoking areas will be published in the ships "Celebrity Today".

Just like PA where smoking is banned in most inside spaces. We always see smokers outside work places, freezing their b**ts off in 0 degree weather.

We live in Fairbanks, Alaska, and here smoking is also banned in most interior spaces. As a non-smoker I ALWAYS am amazed at the smokers standing outside their workplace at -40 and lower taking their puffs.

But back to the OP's question -- we have done the Iceland-Ireland itinerary on Celebrity as well as one of their Antarctic cruises. There are no exceptions made for colder weather itineraries. There will be no interior smoking venues on your cruise. And your fellow passengers will most likely not tolerate or "look the other way" if someone tries to smoke on their balcony.

Would you consider changing cruiselines? Princess has smoking in the casino and in Churchill's bar. Holland America also does an Iceland itinerary and they allow smoking in the casino, as do most other lines. We love the no smoking policy on Celebrity and we want to keep it that way. Other lines may be a better fit for your group. That being said, this might be a good opportunity for the smokers in your party to throw their cigs away and go clean on Reflection. It is a beautiful ship! Hope you find a solution!

We would definitely consider changing cruise lines, but we can't find an itinerary that matches our wants. Holland and Princess both offer the Iceland itinerary but for 14 days. We would like a 10-12 day itinerary. We are also looking at Silverseas and Crystal. Both of those offer the shorter trip.

The smoking thing is not a deal breaker for anyone. Just a question I needed answered to have all of the information to present to the group.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Just came off 24 days on Crystal and smokers were very few. There are very very limited spots for those who smoke.....

We were on Silversea when they did have smoking in the bar. I believe that changed due to complaints. However it is very over rated

On our last Holland America cruise (Westerdam) they did not allow smoking in the casino or anywhere indoors. May have been because the ship had just come from a complete refurb and everything was shiny and new. IIRC they do allow smoking on the balcony.

They used to allow smoking on balconies, but they stopped last January.

Most cruiselines seem to be moving all smoking outside. As an example, I noticed when looking at HAL recently that the smoking policies could change ship-to-ship: some allowed smoking in the casinos while others no longer did (a recent change, for sure). I think they realize that smoking policy is one of those things that increasingly affect people's booking decisions.

All smokers of a certain age are pretty much used to going outside at this point, especially if they've had a job in the last 20-25 years. Many states no longer allow smoking in bars or restaurants, either.

We just got off of the Coral Princess and Princess does not

seriously address smokers in non smoking areas. Smokers

would go on the aft decks and smoke, throwing the butts into the ocean.

(there are no aft balconies on the Coral) So, this was a fairly secluded

area where it would be tough to enforce.

PLEASE, no flaming.

Many cruisers complained to Passenger Services

about this issue and they asked that we "catch them in the act" and call

Passenger Services so they could personally address the smokers. Many

passengers were not able to enjoy these aft decks because of this. This became

an issue before first sailaway.

Princess made it the responsibility of the guests. We even knew the cabin

number and names of the smokers but Princess did not care.

Even though this thread is about Celebrity I would have asked to speak to security or the Hotel Manager. No matter the cruise line.
