When is final pmt.? Hoping for price drop

You could post on the roll call for the cruise you are watching and ask people what their final payment date is. It may vary according to who they booked through, but not by much. You could also google for large on-line companies, make a mock booking and see how many cabins are available on the cruise. If there are lots, then you could watch for a price drop. HTH.

Just as an FYI, we have a Bermuda cruise coming up in two weeks, price has dropped a lot since I booked it just before final payment so we got a nice upgrade to Aqua. We have an Eastern Med cruise in October. I made the final payment on that one today. The prices on that one, one we booked last September, has gone up from $5600 to almost $9000 for the same cabin. Bottom line, it is always a crap shoot. Look around, if you see a trip you like and you can live with the price, book it.

We didn’t book early so I’m waiting to see if there’s a price drop after final pmt. how do I find out when it is?

If you go thru the motions of making a reservation on the Celeb site, just prior to entering deposit payment info you'll see the "refundable by" date. (Assuming it's for a reservation with a refundable deposit) That date is the final payment date.

As to reductions, Celebrity's pricing rhythm post final pmt date(aka90days out) appears to be: a decent reduction 6-10days after final pmt date--sometimes, but not always, included as one of their "exciting deals" released on Tuesdays. The general rule of thumb I've seen is that tends to be as low as things get--unless it's a trip with substantial open cabins---and there is often a slight uptick in prices once you get within about 5 weeks of sailing.

All of this is based solely on cabins reserved directly thru Celebrity and implies nothing regarding what TAs might be doing with inventory.

Keep in mind also that they are now using the move-up program, or whatever the official name is - and it will likely eliminate many of the price drops that you could find before. You also need to be aware of how booked the cruise is. Some online agencies (I am forbidden from mentioning them) show you all the cabins still available, by category. By analyzing that, you can make a pretty decent prediction as to whether prices will rise or fall. But again, not sure what the move-up program will do to this analysis.

Usually price drops on Celebrity means you lose your perks, meaning the "free perk price" doesn't go down that often but what they do is offer resident and senior rates as well as the exciting deals which can be significantly lower but these come with no perks so you just have to weigh all the options

Move Up, Click here for the info on Celebrity's website, is just an opportunity to bid on possible last minute upgrades. It has little to no bearing on cabins in saleable inventory. This is simply an automation and broad publication of what has been their practice for some time, offering last minute upgrades when cabins become available a few days prior to sailing. If you're on one of the 5 ships currently offering the program, then 30 days prior to sailing you'll get an email inviting you to bid on the chance to possibly upgrade is a cabin becomes available. (Some international airlines have been doing this with their business class seating for years.)

Currently there's some wild rumor mongering on some threads about how this somehow threatens cabin availability or other package benefits. It doesn't reduce cabin availability--it's sole purpose is getting heads in better beds (and maximum $'s for those heads) that would otherwise be empty at sailing(upgrades). It does NOT threaten people's promotion packages--as is clearly stated on the FAQs page--those transfer. It just offers a chance (not a guarantee) at getting a grade of cabin above what you reserved @ a price of your choosing. nothing more, nothing less.
