I just received an up sell offer that seems eyerolling..... 289 per person from a BD balcony to a mini suite 7 days on the regal .....maybe I am expecting too much.....but  that is almost the same price that they are selling it for on the website! I have never had an offer before and I thought they were meant to be a great deal .

Is that $289 in US or Canadian dollars? If the latter that comes to $218 in US$ which only a bit higher than most recent seven-night upsells. If enough people ignore it you may get a lower second offer right before sailing (I did this summer on Island Princess in Alaska) but without knowing time and region of your cruise it is hard to say if there will be few takers--if a Caribbean cruise during the February/March peak there may be enough Princess newbies who bite. But even $31/pp/pd if converted to USD is admittedly no bargain and better spent on other amenities on your cruise than just a sofa, bathtub and second TV (and two glasses of "unpacking juice").

That doesn't sound like a great deal but I did receive what I thought was a fabulous savings on my one and only upsell offer.  I was booked in an obstructed OV room and got an offer to a premium balcony for a 10 night Alaska cruise for $249 pp.  Yes, it was an additional $500 but we were able to pick our cabin out of the available balconies and the price was over $1000 less than what was available on the Princess website.  It was probably such a great deal that we couldn't pass up because we got such a deal on our original cabin.

We were very pleased as we wanted a balcony but it was too pricey when we booked.  But, nearly $600 more for a balcony to a mini-suite (especially if not Club Class) for a 7 night sailing ... way too much!

That's really good that you know what the mini-suites were selling for before this offer came in.  Most people just get excited to see an upsell offer and never check to make sure they're getting a good deal.

The upsells I've seen lately have NOT been good.  The latest one was $2 less than it would've been had I paid for the mini on my own without the upsell.  Some "deal"!

I was excited , for a moment when I saw the email......because I have read about these great offers.... but after a bit of research...I’m almost insulted.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, also on the Regal. Not only was my "deal" the same fare as what they were currently selling for but when I checked the website the only minis available were on the higher decks directly beneath the Seawalk and Seaview bar. They would have had to pay me to switch my cabin aft balcony to one of those.

They will not "negotiate".  The price is the price.

I did negotiate my last two upsells and got them.  Of course you risk losing out to others who are willing to take an otherwise good deal.

When i I book my cruise I make an upsell chart that I keep close by. That way I am ready to negotiate

We almost always pick the cabin we want a year or more in advance and then mark it no upgrade but this past October we made a last minute (for us) reservation on the Crown Princess 10 day Christmas cruise.  Since it was spur of the moment we decided to go with a balcony cabin (category BE) for $1229 per person to save money compared to the mini-suites we usually reserve.  Less than 2 weeks later we received an upsell offer to a mini-suite for $129 p/p.  We chose a category MB mini-suite that was being advertised on the website for $2,449.

We just received an upsell from an inside to a premium balcony for 169 pp.  We jumped on it as we really wanted a balcony but got a great casino rate on a spur of the moment inside cabin for March.  So excited about the offer.

Now THAT'S a deal!  Wish more were like that.  Seems they are really targeting newbies or aloof people who won't compare prices.
