Our Guest Check In button looks different than that, and there is no information on that page about the Medallion. Maybe our cruise isn't going to be a Medallion cruise after all... that might be why I can't get it to load in the app. It's flagged as a MedallionClass cruise though. But it's the Royal, and maybe not quite ready yet, or not sure if it will be. Will keep an eye though. Thanks for the info.
spunks Posted March 10, 2019 #104 Share Posted March 10, 2019 ok, if they dont give you a card anymore, how do you work the slot machines? If they do work the slot machines, what keeps someone that finds a lost one from running up a big bill and (I always wanted to use this word in a sentence) absconding with the ill gotten gains? I was just joking about using a "found"medallion in the Casino....no way to get away with that....but I do want to know what you use now for the slot machines. pris993 Posted March 10, 2019 #105 Share Posted March 10, 2019 I have no interest in this at all, will stick with cruise card, do not want to be tracked on board or have anyone assume I want a drink or whatever.... just another way to nickle and dime passengers.... Doug But they do work the slot machines in the casino by placing it on the Medallion area each time you sit down. You still need a pin number to access the account in addition to the Medallion. Losing the Medallion still presents another problem as yet since the finder now has access to your cabin unless you immediately report it. 🤔

But you're probably right -- if it becomes mandatory, as much as we like Princess, we likely will switch lines. Did they actually say they will be switching over fully? That would be nice to know now. I read that part of their cost savings is being able to assign more rooms to each steward because the stewards will know when passengers are out of their rooms. That part makes sense, but we're the kind that doesn't require much anyway. More work, but assuming the tips actually go to the stewards, more pay for them. All lines owned by Celebrity are going to this system, so check which lines are under this umbrella before booking.
Thrak Posted March 14, 2019 #110 Share Posted March 14, 2019 The paranoia of being "tracked" is mind boggling. I would bet that many of the folks who are horrified at the idea of being "tracked" while on a ship actually have Facebook accounts which track you everywhere. "Oh! You are at Costco/some restaurant/ etc. Would you like do Check In?" Sheesh. It's a freaking ship. They don't have the time or manpower to worry about where you are all the time. These are the same sort of folks who thought the Cruise Card was going to cause the Apocalypse.

These are the same sort of folks who thought the Cruise Card was going to cause the Apocalypse. Last June per a staff member on the Ruby, who had just been briefed on the OM the day before, only a handful of security people can actually get into the system and track a specific person. Not even the captain can do this. Most of the open tracking is for after you have used your OM to order an item to be sent to you such as a drink by the pool or you have made yourself avail to those in your party to be tracked, and then only they can track you. As paranoid as some are here, it makes you think they believe there is a new area down stairs with about 100 personnel each with 25 screens watching 25 separate passengers following every move by every passenger. Must cost the Carnival corporation a fortune! LOL If you are that paranoid, don't use the OM to order anything, that way I can get my drink faster!!!! 🍺 1
loge23 Posted March 14, 2019 #112 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Was on the Regal 2/24 as well and shared your enthusiasm upon receiving the medallion package. That enthusiasm lasted until the first day on board. The medallions functioned primarily as a method of tracking embarkation and disembarkation. Mine had to be held against the icon outside our cabin door in order for the door to unlock, my spouse had to go down to the service desk (at a very inconvenient time) since her medallion didn't work at all (it was corrected, btw). I am aware that some medallions worked better than ours did. Drink orders were mostly taken by pen and pad with a signature or the wait staff would take your medallion to the bar area. No one, as far as I know, ever knew where I was - including the wait staff, whom often had to be flagged down for service. Inquiries went unanswered, suggesting that the training was not particularly comprehensive. Someone sold Princess a bill of goods with this system, but Princess - ever mindful of a away to cash in - now sells all kinds of crap to support the darn things: wristbands, necklaces, even the colored cardboard cards for the lanyards ($5 a pop) so everyone can easily spot what loyalty rank you have, if that's important to you. There's advertising for the system everywhere on board, including on the inside of the elevator doors. Maybe this will work as intended someday, but I felt the whole shebang was unnecessary and wasteful. I wonder how many staff positions were cut to implement this system? It might be but we'll never know it's real value to Carnival Corp in terms of the data collected. Right now it makes things a little more convenient for me so I'll go along with it since it doesn't cost anything extra. For those that fear being tracked jut use a piece of aluminum foil to hide yourselves. You'll disappear completely off their radar. Was on regal 2/17 and had to put medallion right up against icon to get in. 2 of the 4 worked this way the other 2 plain didn’t work to get into room. I didn’t bother to fix them as they were my kids medallions.
Gayesy57 Posted March 14, 2019 #115 Share Posted March 14, 2019 We are going on the Diamond Princess in April. We have just qualified as Platinum. Will we automatically get something sent to us?
Linsifer Posted March 15, 2019 #116 Share Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) I really haven’t been following any Medallion threads, so I’m not sure what it is exactly. Sounds like something that costs extra? Do we HAVE to participate? We’ll be on the Grand sailing to Hawaii April 21. I assume it won’t be set up on the ship yet, even after the drydock? I’ve tried reading up on it via Princess website, but still not quite certain what it entails. Edited March 15, 2019 by Linsifer
Flowergirl56 Posted March 15, 2019 #117 Share Posted March 15, 2019 No it doesn’t cost you anything but from what I here it will save you time. Download the OceanReady app and fill in the information. There are several threads with tons of information.

toc1085 Posted March 16, 2019 #119 Share Posted March 16, 2019 I'm sailing on the Caribbean Prince on April 6. I've been unable to add my reservation to the Ocean Ready app. I've made numerous calls to Princess and they haven't been able to figure out the problem. I'm wondering if my Medallion will have limited capabilities if this issue can't be fixed by sailing date.

That's pretty unnerving. Why do they even have that feature and why the heck don't they deactivate it? Your Ocean Medallion is associated with your profile that contains your onboard security picture. If that picture does not match a guest when a purchase is being made or when someone other than the original guest is nearby, access will not be granted to a stateroom and purchases cannot be made. Then go to you cabin, open the door, and steal something?:
