Lastdance Posted February 15, 2019 #126 Share Posted February 15, 2019 (edited) Yet another first world problem with a variety of answers...bottom line...it just does not matter. I do not wear one onboard, but have worn many over the years for different ocassions...so...love the person who got a laugh, after just recovering from knee surgery, as it helped his overall wellbeing! I have been both a winner and a loser, according to the title! Edited February 15, 2019 by Lastdance
Vagabond Knight Posted February 15, 2019 #127 Share Posted February 15, 2019 LOL at the thought that lanyards are tacky. They may not be a fashion statement, but for many reasons they're practical. It's mostly to keep me from losing my card, not only when I'm out and about, but also in our room. We hang them in a place that makes it hard to forget 'em as we're headed out the door. I don't want to carry a purse around on the ship and many of my outfits are either pocket-free or with shallow enough pockets that I'd be picking my card up off the deck (if lucky enough to realize it had fallen out) waaaay too many times throughout the cruise. Those of you who don't like lanyards should thank me for all the times I've turned in your lanyard-free card that you left in a machine in the casino. It's a lot harder to forget it with the lanyard hanging out of the machine!

KateWes Posted February 17, 2019 #133 Share Posted February 17, 2019 I’ve seen worse fashion faux pas on a cruise than wearing a lanyard! But everyone is on holiday and should be allowed to do/wear what they like ! Im all about the lanyards tbh because I’m so forgetful I’d have my sea pass lost within minutes! leadvocal Posted February 17, 2019 #134 Share Posted February 17, 2019 We use one of these when we go on shore. Holds our seapass, some folded money, and credit card (just in case). I leave the lanyard on mine but keep it in my pocket until I am getting back onboard the ship.
Vickie425 Posted February 17, 2019 #135 Share Posted February 17, 2019 Long time cruiser, always afraid I’ll lose my card. Just purchased a new laynard. To each his own.

Another reason to wear one while in the pool, since I seldom bring my snorkel gear there. Plus, how could I order a drink while in the pool?
Pennyscandy Posted February 24, 2019 #137 Share Posted February 24, 2019 After loosing my sign and sail card many cruises ago, I use a lanyard. I say each to their own.

ohhbother Posted February 25, 2019 #139 Share Posted February 25, 2019 To the person who asked about Disney Magic Bands, they are waterproof and are fine to wear in the pool. So that won't be an issue if cruise lines ever decide to go that route.

"I know it's the wrong ship, but I'm Gold over there. What are you here, Select? Pssshh." LOL, I was thinking of bringing my souvenir Carnival lanyard. It's got a nice ship's wheel locket plus the Carnival branding on the webbing strap. Should light up any snobs near by.

Gone are the days when you could be rude and surely to someone and they wouldn't have a clue who you were. Correct, most of us wear them every day, all day and not just ‘high level executives’. My DS has to wear one at school too. I personally seem to have a problem with some of the materials used, leading to itching around my neck. Consequently, I’ve changed to the clip-on type for work. Perhaps I just can’t be a loser 😎 🤣.

(Probably men mostly wear shirts with collar, so the lanyards are mainly on the collar rather than the neck) I believe it's the stitches to prevent the edges from fraying, or the edges themselves, that are causing the itching

kydems Posted February 25, 2019 #146 Share Posted February 25, 2019 Definitely not a newby but I love my lanyard. Most of my clothes don't have pockets and I don't want to be that person that takes the card out of their underwear and hands it to the bar staff.

Mine are waterproof and put $, ID, sea pass,CC in and loop through a 'D' ring in my cargo shorts pocket which means it is inside my cargo pocket. Great for excursions, both dry and wet.
