DO YOU THINK THE MARDI GRAS SHOULD HAVE

We were on the Elation last month, went around midnight for a snack, yes, they suppose to have a few other options other than pizza but there were only 2 sandwiches of grilled cheese left in the tray, didn't look good....this past cruise has left me not exactly unhappy because any cruise is better than no cruise, but nothing to feel like going back on an older smaller Carnival ship, it was unimpressive.  Most of the bartenders were not friendly and well there were issues we had that again, shouldn't have gone through but did.

We are excited and are booked (four generations) for the Mardi Gras on her first cruise out of Port Canaveral next year and very much looking forward to that knowing it be their best ship.  Time will tell whether we be back or stay with RC or even try Celebrity, although I have my doubts about Celebrity.

Unhealthy!  They had real meat not processed, they had fruits of all kinds, vegetables cooked and raw, many types of salads, cheese, seafood, the good healthier meals, now you get pizza, burgers, hot dogs, French fries, grilled cheese!!

I am not saying having a large lavish buffet, just have a buffet with some good items as they used to have.  Eating late at night on a cruise for a week is not going to be unhealthy or do anything to your health.  I stay up until 2-3am as well as many others and we sure would love to have a late night healthier snack, instead of waiting for pizza on those long lines...just saying.....

I would like to see a "Carnival Luxury Brunch buffet" like other lines do.  Celebrity did them on even 5 night cruises.  This was with ice sculptures, carved meat, chilled shrimp, and many great deserts. If they did something like this, in the steakhouse, i would even pay to go!

Nah.  What it should have and doesn't is the self-service laundry. I hope I'm wrong, but it was pointed out the Mardi Gras will not have these facilities.  I'm wondering if this will be a new trend in Carnival's ships-to-come.

You're not wrong...

Self-Service Launderettes are featured on the following ships: All ships with the exception of the Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras will have ironing rooms on several stateroom decks as well as Valet Laundry service.

I agree totally!  We are night owls also and the lack of anything decent to eat late at night always seems a shame to me.  I don't want pizza, or some old decrepit sandwich, and I guess I could use room service, just never tried it and like someone else said we don't want to sit around in our room waiting on room service.. it would be much more fun to be able to go so a nice buffet as pictured above with the fruits etc.  I guess most of the people on this board must be early to bed peeps.  When we are out late at night on our cruises there is always a very long line for pizza and many people say they wish there were more choices late at night.

Hello moon gal....even my most hated cruise line has fruit and cheese as well as other items in the casino late at night.   I remember those times when the buffets were given, and your right, it was PART of the cruise experience, something that was taken away from us by most cruise lines.  Either people on this board go to bed early or they love eating McDonalds/fast food quality foods.  Yes, most of the time the line for the pizza is crazy and you have to wait a long time for the pizza, ridiculous...even other cruise lines have their pizzeria down pact, they make larger pizzas and many different kinds continuously so there is no line.  I don't think asking for something healthier such as fruit, cheese and such is really a big deal for the cruise line to provide for us, and sitting in a cabin a long time for food just is crazy.  Oh, lets not go onto the subject of having some munchies such as nuts at the bar.  LOL

My guess is this is another way Carnival can generate revenue during a cruise. Not a bad move business wise.  I don’t think too many people will be upset by this change, unlike the recent change to room service charges that resulted in Carnival reversing the change before it was implemented.

While I have no factual basis on this, I would bet it has to do with the number of cruisers, not the revenue that is generated (how many laundries they would need).

Or maybe some people don’t eat after dinner because they are health conscious or waistline conscious. I for one wouldn’t eat anything that close to bedtime. I wouldn’t sleep well and I’d wake up feeling like crap. So just because you want a midnight buffet it doesn’t mean everyone has to agree or it means they like McDonald’s/ fast food quality food. 🙄

LOL....I have cruised dozens of times including nights staying up late eating that "4th meal".  It certainly wasn't as a dramatic or memorable experience as being recounted on this thread.  I had no problems finding food.

Jerseygirl1416-  You didn't get my point, I meant, maybe people don't want the buffet as it is not the type food they used to eat or want to eat...I guess Carnival is doing something right because at night its those grilled cheese sandwiches, French fries, pizza, hot dogs and burgers, the most eaten food of Americans, but what about people such as myself who want to eat around midnight and eat "better foods". (remember many people including myself don't go to bed before 2am, and the proof is just look at the disco, the late night comedy shows and the casino has so many people up during these early am hours).

Ray98- The problem with Carnival is lets say after midnight there is ONLY pizza to eat.

Oh dear! Looks like I'd better write myself a note NEVER to sail the Mardi Gras as there's no self-service laundrette!

Thank you for alerting me to that fact, I don't remember seeing it.

THE OLD TIME MIDNIGHT BUFFET?  I think this ship needs something extra special that other ships don't have.

It will have a roller coaster, the other ships don't.

I think they need a grand brunch, for Gold & above.  Something like what the Midnight buffets used to be like, but at lunch.  Celebrity & Holland America used to have this.  Something special, to thank you for your loyalty and to bring you back.

Interesting that they "used to have this." Wonder why they no longer have it. Cost maybe?
