Price Per day

Wonder if we are the only ones who .... book the time of year/ship & cruise line/itinerary/cabin catagory/ etc. we want and are willing to pay whatever it takes to get what we want?

Same here.  Once I decide what I want I´ll shop around to get a good price, but I want what I want, not what I can get for $x.

I find it interesting that the prevailing interpretation of a ´fair price´ in this thread is the cheapest possible price, while it is obvious that fair varies widely based on line, ship, itinerary, duration, cabin, inclusions, etc.  A cruise can be vastly overpriced at $200 pp/pd while another cruise might be a great bargain at $500 pp/pd.

It is kind of like asking, what is a fair ¨per square foot¨ price for a house.  Makes no sense - which doesnt́ stop people from voicing an answer, LOL.

Roughly US$120 to $2000 per cabin for two per day including taxes and port fees. Tips and transport to and from the ship would be additional.

This is one of the very few intelligent responses to OP’s question. It always depends: inside or balcony, cheap line or better line, routine or rare itinerary.   We’ve had bargains at just over $125 per day for the two of us on routine Caribbean itineraries we had to fly to reach, and have just booked a balcony QM2 Christmas and New Years sailing from nearby New York at about $500+ per day for the two of us.  We have found that you rarely get more than what you are willing to pay for.

The fixation of so many on finding cheap fares as a primary decision driver goes a long way to explaining why mass market cruising has devolved to a Walmart experience.

I haven't purposefully gone looking for cheap. I book the cabin that I want on the cruise that I want but getting the casino discount makes a huge difference.  For years, I did balconies.  Then I got an upgrade to a mini and was convinced that is how I wanted to go.  Then I booked a WS and decided for the difference, I wanted to try a Vista.  Huge mistake.  Now I'm never going to want anything else.  Except for my TA, gotta try the WS.  For the price, it's a great deal.  Granted, if Princess sends me an email for a balcony for $225 for a 7 day for a cruise I wasn't planning on...yes I'll take it.

Paid £2,200 ($2855) for 28 days UK-Caribbean-UK

Included all port and taxes, and free coach journey for around 400 miles each way, home/port.

Inside cabin.

Last minute bargain- 12 nights repositioning UK to Malta, inside, £700 ($908), including taxes etc; coach to ship and flight back to UK.

I loved the WS and realized we wouldn't be able to book that category very often..... we've done it once and have one more booked before the Grand leaves us. Based on what you said, I may not even want to try a Vista Suite.

But, we sailed in a balcony after the WS and other than the dining being a big PITA, we made out just fine in our balcony cabin.  I'd actually even sail in an inside cabin if that meant the difference between a cruise or no cruise.  Alas, we found we really like the obstructed OV cabins and with our casino discount, that is the best rate for us.  We only get the % off each cabin category with our casino rate so the suites don't give us that big of a discount.  Don't get me wrong, I would still love to get one of those top of the line cabins for a special occasion.

Last year was an aberration for us with 3 cruises.     We celebrated my sisters 60th, got a last minute deal in June and then I surprised my husband for our 1st anniversary.  Normally it's one a year because of the airfare so because of that we'll spend a little more.

Our price point is £200 ($260) per day for us both for a cabin with some sort of window or better. We have to travel during peak holiday times due our jobs.

If theres a package going on we work out how much the drinks/wifi would normally be and work out if its worth the spend per day.

So for a week cruise our limit is £700 per per person.

If a cruise is with a drinks package we expect to pay around £25 a day or less so a week cruise with a drinks package that is £875 or less is good. If a cruise includes tips/wifi we take that into consideration too.

If an itinerary was super special we might go higher but its all about the ports and our money mainly goes on those ports so yeah...

I'm solo. I like 200 per day. I'm okay with 300 per day. I also prefer balcony. Claustrophobic so inside or small rooms won't do.

I try to keep land based trips (hotel / air) under 3k. So cruising is a bargain

Awe ... that sounds like a blast!!  I especially love the surprise for your anniversary.  Cruising the best way to celebrate a special occasion, as far as we are concerned....especially if a group is involved.  Everybody can do their own thing but then again, you can always do group activities instead.

Like you, we used to just go once a year but since cruising has become such a bargain, we started going more like 4 times a year, albeit some of those were short sailings (3-4 days).  Now that we are both retired, we've cut back down to 1 or 2 sailings per year.  We have the time and flexibility but not the same travel budget as when we were working.  But, those last minute deals sometimes prompt that 2nd or maybe even a 3rd cruise in a year.  We try to take advantage of some of those if out of San Francisco, as there is no air travel involved.  It is one advantage of living close to a port.

We have paid as little as AUD $25pp/night for a balcony on a last minute cruise, and as much as $300pp/night for an oceanview on a must do cruise itinerary. It all depends on the line, ship, itinerary and timing.

The part I bolded is a complete and comprehensive answer to the question ´what is a fair price´.

If you are talking 170 Cdn per day for two, you have nothing to complain about.  Very few get much under $100 US per day per person on any decent itinerary at a good time of year — unless it is a real last minute option.

I am not sure picking up a last minute can even be classed as a fair price as realistically it is a fire sale price.

Agreed - it is a one-off, and not really a valid  part of a discussion about pricing cruises - which involves a longer time frame than what is involved in grabbing a last minute fluke.

In January of 2018, probably because of the hurricanes in the fall of 2017, my husband and I snagged a window-view cabin (no obstruction) on Celebrity on a seven day Southern Caribbean cruise for a grand total of $1160 USD which included taxes and fees. If my math is correct, this worked out to $82 per person. Luckily there was minimal damage to the southern islands by the hurricanes, but we had to depart from San Juan. We were already staying in Orlando with relatives but this extra flight segment from Orlando to San Juan added a 250 pp airfare which did negate some of our savings.

Fantastic deal!  I'm not sure I can stay at home for $82/day.
