Smoking in the casino

Being a smoker I would not have a issue with smoke free nights,   Maybe split the cruise in half.

I also would not have a issue with totally smoke free if they had a area (lounge) close by.  I don't want to take 30-40 minutes just to go have a smoke. 

 Some princess ships have a enclosed smoking lounge on one side of the casino.

Some RCI ships have the casino by the promenade where you could just walk out side and smoke.

I feel better design could work for both non and smokers alike.

As of 2016 only 15% of adults smoke. I think once that number goes under 10 you'll see them make the casino smoke-free with some kind of designated outdoor smoking area nearby

I love in NYC we have 2 casinos (racings because they only have slots no live table games) that do not allow smoking. Both are always packed. If there not playing they shouldn't be in there smoking. it makes the casino insufferable at times.

I don't smoke-my wife does.  We feel that CCL has gotten the smoking rules and areas just about right.  Difficult subject and will probably never make everyone happy.  I have not been bothered by smoke in the casino however.

At the Hard Rock in Tampa they have a non smoking slot room, problem is you have to walk thru a smoke filled casino to get to it.

Let us only hope you do not end up with any number of diseases related to second hand smoke. This is the problem that so many people do not recognize, and that is that exposure to second hand smoke can be just as deadly to those around the smoker. It also causes people with a chronic illness, such as asthma, to be in a very compromised situation. For smokers to say, that those people need to stay away from smoking areas is really not the answer. You have to wonder who should be the ones banned? The non smoker just wanting to have a great time in a non hazardess area, or the smoker who is inflicting their bad unhealthy habit on those around him? This is a debate that has been rehashed on this forum, and others, but nothing is ever done. I do believe the times they are a changin, people. I feel in the near future, we will see more regulations concerning smoking on any cruise line.

...On every cruise I spend a lot of time in the casino. I tolerate the smoke but it gets pretty bad in there and the smell is sometimes awful. People aren't even gambling there just sitting around smoking. I really think enough is enough already. It may be time for a ban. I have read about non-smoking ships (Paradise was smoke free from 1998-2004) and cruise lines (Renaissance) both are no longer in existence. This tells me there is enough demand for smoking areas on ships.

Because you are probably desensitized to the odor.  I grew up with a smoking father. I never really smelled smoke until after I was grown and moved out to a smoke free home.

I was on the Glory last week & could smell smoke from the casino when walking up the middle atrium stairs on the first day. I was dreading having to put up with it all week but I don't know if ventilation was particularly bad that day or I got used to it (probably this), because I couldn't smell it in the same area later in the cruise. 

 

Personally I'm not that bothered who smokes where, but some ships are definitely more unfortunate for non-smokers than others. The layout on Glory/Valor etc makes it somewhat of a chore to avoid the casino area when getting from A to B, not to mention lots of quizzes & activities/photos take place down that side area. So many bars are barely used during the day, I don't see why they don't just move trivia to one of them. It'd be easier to hear too.

There is now a non-smoking casino in Biloxi (can't remember the name right now), but I'm not sure how it is doing.  I've heard through the grape vine that it's not doing great, but who knows.

 

The Palace. It wasn't great when it was smoking. If they're not doing well, it's likely not related to smoking or non smoking. They're competing against 9 other area casinos, some of whom are really epic properties and the Palace is one of the oldest in town.

Because it is illegal to smoke indoors in both of those states. This is not businesses choosing it. Appearing to be packed doesn't mean big business isn't being lost.

Deep in all of the scare tactics of second hand smoke, the real data shows us it's people who worked in smoking environments, lived with someone who smokes 1-2 packs a day, etc. Many people smoke thousands of cigarettes per year and never get cancer.

 

The best is people who say how dangerous it is and have poor eating, drinking, and exercise habits. Most people breathe in more smoke from cars than they do cigarettes. Yet It's the casino that did you in.

They have already taken smoking away from the airports, planes, then the dining room, then inside your cabin, and now the balcony.  Now, as a smoker, we have about 2 choices on where to smoke on that huge cruise ship.  And we are following the rules by smoking at the casino bar.  Please stop bashing us.... We are only doing what we are told....I actually had a woman walk by the bar on our last cruise and tell us we were going to die from cancer.  Well, I have had a loved one die from cancer, and that was absolutely uncalled for....

Not bashing smokers ... I'm okay with them having a smoking area.  I'm NOT okay with smokers taking over the entire casino (not just the casino bar), including the non-smoking portions of the casino (see my previous post).  Not every smoker follows "the rules by smoking at the casino bar."  I'm glad that you do!

Someone mentioned the failed Paradise. Well, that was a long time ago, and as I said, we are a much more educated society now. I don’t believe it would hurt the cruise line’s bottom line one darn bit to ban smoking. I think the cheers for doing so would be deafening. 

 

I am a non-smoker and don’t spend too much time in the casino because of the smoke, other than usually playing the slot tournament(s) every cruise.  But I can guarantee you Carnival’s casinos would be smoke free if that led to more revenue from the casino.  As others have pointed out in this thread, there are good reasons (I.e. money) why Carnival continues to allow smoking in their casinos.

One of the main reasons the Casinos are so smokey is because there's no other indoor smoking facilities for those who partake on Carnival. It sounds counter-intuitive but if the snowflakes who can't handle cigarette smoke want to fix the "problem" they'll demand more indoor smoking areas.

I'm an occasional cigar smoker (maybe 2 cigars a month).

 

I can understand them allowing cigarette smokers in the casino but I think they need to do a much better job of filtering the smoke in some way.  I agree that it's not fair to the non-smokers who want to gamble but can't or refuse to due to the smokey conditions.

 

Maybe add a 2nd casino to the ships?  🤪

Unfortunately, on some ships if you want to go from one end of the ship to the other on the same deck as the casino, you have to "sashay" through the smoke, or go up/down one or more decks.

 

If Carnival included a bypass for the casinos on all ships, that would help tremendously.

Really, they should put wizards in charge of the Trivia contests.  And everyone who cheats should be made to smoke a pack of Virginia Slims out on the bow late at night, and they would have to listen to Yanni until they're done.
