How does P&O deal with anti social behaviour

The two threads about the problem on Ventura have been rightly shut down because they were linking antisocial behaviour to specific cultural groups. Linking anti social behaviour to X Y or Z is wrong it's  not political correctness it's just wrong to brand the many with the wrong doings of the few,  and its also absolutely nothing that P&O can act on.

What matters is how they deal with antisocial  behaviour.  This is when the captain and other senior officers must make their presence felt straight away. You can't leave it to junior staff. It needs a uniform with a lot of stripes on the shoulders to read the riot act and nip it in the bud .

Yes it may be alcohol but even without the drinks package,  people so inclined will drink anyway.

When you respond to this please keep it neutral, anyone can be antisocial,  even ex Etonian drinking clubs at Oxford .

Re the incidents on Ventura, it is my understanding that the Captain did get involved and persons were put off the ship.

I believe all decisions are taken by the Captain and if he deems the behaviour unacceptable he has it in his power to remove passengers from the ship. The Captain is responsible for the safety of all passengers and crew.

All cruise ships have what is tantamount to a prison cell in which they can keep people.  All ships have a security force who can sort out people who have committed criminal offences.  P&O would have the same, the sizes of each is obviously confidential. There are sanctions which the cruise line can bring into force should behaviour be encountered whereby the cruise line wishes to intervene. They can disembark anyone at the next port and in general the whole cabin of people would be disembarked. Unwanted activities would include shoplifting, cheating in the casino, fighting etc.

If lesser transgressions are experienced, such as children being disruptive, messing about they have people who can refer the issue back to the parents. Patrols can be directed to the scene of any activity, messing about with the lifts or other passengers and their belongings or abusing them, using the ships cctv.  This would sort out most kids but if the parents were confrontational it could be escalated.

It is difficult where a large group are involved.  This is the problem any cruise line has as can be noted if you look at YouTube where a cruise has been affected by hurricanes in the Caribbean etc. causing the missing of a long succession of ports of call and a passenger rebellion has come about.  Social media of passengers on board is not helping in this respect.

Apart from the examples mentioned above, I would like to think that overt breaches of H&S such as parking buggies or any other items in corridors should be addressed immediately.  There are clear dangers attached to not keeping escape routes clear.  I would find it an abdication of legal responsibilities if this were not to be tackled immediately it becomes obvious by any member of staff or passenger reporting the issue.  I found that situation very disturbing - as well as some of the other incidents highlighted.

as regards the passengers who were disembarked at a port of call would that be the end of the matter on behalf of p&o or would there be further punishment to follow ?

One would hope that a lifetime ban would be the further punishment but who knows

I agree about escape routes, and have always thought that putting baggage outside the door early in the day on the last day of the cruise is ridiculous.

I totally agree and have seen cases left out early many times.

Personally I carry/push our cases off on disembarkation day.

I understand that they are left on the quayside to make their own way home at their own personal cost.

After that, dependant on what the cruise line thinks they could presumably be blacklisted from all Carnival Corporation brands should this be thought desirable.

On a cruise on Britannia a few years ago a couple were put off at a port. The captain apologized to anyone, crew and passengers who had been affected by their behaviour and said he would make sure they never be allowed to sail on p and o again so perhaps there is some sort of blacklist?

Last couple of 2 night cruises we have done, their has been extra security on board. they usually hung around the various bars all day and night. They stayed in the background but were just visible enough, to be fair haven't seen any trouble either.

Just to add a different perspective: one of the worst examples of bad behaviour I have seen on my handful of cruises came from a fairly senior member of staff (Chief Engineer IIRC). He had family on board and had clearly a drink or two taken, but his language in particular, general staggering around, loudness and rumbustiousness stood out. Didn't set a good example for passengers or other crew.

I think you might find that most of the cases that are in the corridors early in the morning on the last full day of the cruise are empty. These are put there by the cabin stewards who have had them in storage when passengers have not been able to fit them anywhere in their cabins.

On one of the p and o ships at lunchtime, small children were climbing on the rails from outside the restaurant. When I told them that it probably wasn’t a good idea, the mother became abusive and ask me if  I realised it was a ship for children. Whilst I was still having my lunch, the mother called security and made a complaint, saying  that I shouldn’t have said anything to the children as it was a child friendly ship. The security guard replied to the mother and said you have this slightly wrong , It is a family friendly ship and as such we look out for each other.

Funnily enough the worst behaviour I have seen was also by a member of staff on the way back from Boat House in Barbados and the driver had to throw her off the mini bus.
