Now, this isn't a surprise since it is satellite based, but for what they are charging, it should be better. The higher price actually helps the speed. Imagine if the standard package was $20 for a week. There would be far more users, and it would slow it even more. But I agree, their internet is garbage. There are better options out there. Better ones that they plan to implement in fact.

wo5m Posted July 23, 2019 #54 Share Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) Its no secret and the cruise lines will tell you that these three things are their biggest money makers. I believe its been said these three account for over 50% of the revenue. There are people who enjoy one or more of these, but that doesn't mean its any less of a ripoff 1. Casino 2. Alcohol 3. Bingo Also its thanks to these "ripoffs" that I can cruise for really cheap. As we don't participate is any of them 🙂 Edited July 23, 2019 by wo5m

We just got off the Pride my hubby and I were thinking of purchasing a Thomas Kincade painting. It was around $1,300. Something was not feeling right to me. I asked for time and got on the internet and the painting was done by Artisians. Not by the artist. I went back and asked the man and he gave me such a run around that I knew he was full of it. vicky3vicky Posted July 23, 2019 #56 Share Posted July 23, 2019 Paying $100 [plus delivery fee] for a $29.99 bottle of crown royal sent to your room before the cruise. Also, at least 75% of the treatments at the spa. PLUS, having to endure their high pressure upsell tactics.

Carnival ships are usually very artistic and interesting. Conquest has the most amazing glass fixtures throughout the ship and the amazing glass sunflower at the entrance of the MDR is stunning. I am a Diamond member which means I have a lot of cruise days on a lot of Carnival ships. I was totally shocked and disappointed with the quality of the Vista interior. Vista's first sailing was May 2016. I was there May 2019. The furnishings were really worn and stained for a 3 year old ship. I have never seen a ship look that worn that fast. Just MY honest opinion. Nothing more nothing less. For starters, I very specifically did not say anything to even insinuate that your comment upset me. I said that I had seen it three times. However, you could be a PLUTONIUM member, and the hyperbole would still be real. Glory to the party, anyway.

If you are familiar with Thomas Kincade that is pretty much how he operated, he would use low level assistants to finish out paintings like a production line. It would have surprised me for a cruise ship to be selling an authenticated Thomas Kincade painting he completed himself.

You can snag an inside cabin for ~$50/person/night in the off season. How much of that $50 would you attribute to dinner? I agree it's a number higher than zero, but overall not a big dent in the specialty vs MDR cost comparison... dave_k58 Posted July 24, 2019 #61 Share Posted July 24, 2019 Bingo is undeniably the biggest rip-off. A close second in my book is the " port information " gathering - one long and boring jewelry sales pitch. Five days on Ecstasy, sailing on November 30th, $254. I will accept the eighty cents per day variance, as the cost of being too lazy to look at other ports and months combinations. 😄
MRSG29 Posted July 24, 2019 #63 Share Posted July 24, 2019 The CHEERS Program or Alcohol bottles to the room by far for me! Over $800 for a 7 -day cruise! SHIIIIIIIIDDDD. That is absolutely ridiculous! Under no circumstances would I even spend that much on liquor in a week's timeframe. I didnt even do that in Vegas.. The bottles of liquor are stupid overpriced! A botttle of Sky vodka on the ship is $90! You can buy that same bottle for $18 locally! That markup is beyond insane!

I did the math, it pretty much works out that they are charging you for the number of shots they can get out of the bottle. You would think that they would discount it a little since they don't have to pour it. You definitely don't buy the bottle to save money.

I say adding about $25-$30 to the markup is not bad but $60-$80 depending on what you're buying a no for me. You're right, you definitely don't buy the bottle to save money. One common theme at that time was people bashing the garish over the top decor on Carnival ships. Now with the Vista and Horizon I see complaints about how plain they look in comparison to the older ships. I will be sailing on the Vista in October so I guess I will get a first hand look then and see what I think. I probably won't notice wear and stains since I have never noticed those things on any older ships since I don't look for it. As is the case with most things half the people probably love the new look, half hate it, and half could care less what the ship looks like they just want to know where the bar and the food is....oh wait that is three halves.... I have seen reviews of the Legend and people calling it gaudy and opulent. I looked at pictures and LOVED IT! Unicorn Cafe?? Enchanted Forest Interior Promenade? Medusa's Lair Dance Club? Are you freaking kidding me? Why would I spend $1000+ per person for a cruise and not have it be over the top decorated and full of fantasy atmosphere? I'm trying to get away from "normal".

ed01106 Posted July 24, 2019 #71 Share Posted July 24, 2019 None of this is unique to Carnival, bur all line. I consider the alcohol the most egregious, because it is the only one where you have no viable alternative. They don’t ban cameras. If you want a family photo and not pay the high prices just ask someone to take a picture for you. Even cruise employees will do this for you. Likewise, you are allowed to buy jewelry or watches on the islands and bring them back to the ship. You can even bypass the casino. I know of four guys who after mutually complaining about blackjack paying 6/5, they started playing poker at a table in the lounge. Cruise line got $0 cut. We own one of his paintings, but we knew going in that how he operated was to paint an original and then copies were made and highlighted (some by him and the rest by artists he hired). He could never have mass produced paintings one at a time by himself. They are numbered copies. His actual originals sell for a heck of a lot more than $1300. We bought ours 15+ years ago for around $800 and today it's probably worth at least $1300. You do also know he died several years ago, correct? So, the biggest problem with the auctions is people going in with no idea what they are looking at or buying.
