How did the Genie help with your under two year old?

We will be cruising on Ovation of the Seas in a star class suite with our granddaughter who will be 1 year and 8 months old.  We have had a genie a couple of times before, so I am familiar with their services on an adult level.  I would be interested to hear from those that have had the help of a genie with an under two year old.  Were they helpful in securing daycare when desired?  What other things were they able to help with?  TIA!

Royal Caribbean does not offer in cabin babysitting anymore.  Not sure if they will make an exception for star class.

If you are having difficulties securing desired times in the nursery perhaps they could help with that but I wouldn’t expect them to have any interaction with the child.

Why not?  The child is a paying passenger.

Seriously.   😁

No.

But I would expect some minor service for the child.    Assist with nursery arrangements.   Maybe some snacks or special treats.    etc.

Sing lullabies at naptime.

I'm not sure where the idea of the Genie watching the child came up🤷‍♀️  My question was in regards to securing daycare  services.  Now that I think about it, I thought I heard Royal discontinued in room babysitting services.  Did they also discontinue care for under 2 year olds in their kid's programs?

No, the nursery program is still alive on some ships.

Ovation does have the Royal Babies & Tots Nursery. I'm sure the Genie can help with snacks and small items you may need..including assisting you in reserving days/times in the Nursery...but more than likely you won't have any problem attempting this yourself when you board. Enjoy spending time with your grandchild...but I'm not sure we would opt to cruise without Mom & Dad having them there with us when we did made for a great time.

Mom and dad are also cruising with us 🙂  Our room sleeps 6.

Our experience was simply getting reservations for us for our daughter in Royal Babies & Tots.

She also brought a bag of toys to the room for our daughter from the nursery.

We didn't request anything additional, I'm not sure what it would be, but to be honest I don't think we requested anything specific as adults other than making dinner reservations.

They're basically just a "point person" for any requests you may have.  They're attentive though,  we had one who noticed my daughter was always walking the halls snacking from a box of Special K, she kept a few boxes in the room.   We didn't ask, she just did it.

We had an anniversary dinner one night of our cruise. Our genie arranged for our kids to have room service in the room (whatever they wanted), made sure it all got to the room on-time for them (got it all set up for them) and after they ate he escorted our 9 year old to the kids club so she could hang out with her friends. He even stopped CHOPS on the way to the kids club so our daughter could come in and say hi to us. It was really great.

I know my kids are older, but just another idea of what the genies do.

Wow, that's impressive! Thanks for sharing.

Is this typical of genies or could it be this particular one? We have had some cabin stewards do things for us that we never asked for nor expected. Some of them really go out of their way, but not all.

I never had kids, but I don't think I would let any stranger take my baby/kid somewhere alone.

I know this isn't the scope of doing things the OP was thinking of though.

I'm getting a new puppy 6 weeks before my next cruise and am even struggling with the thought of hubby caring for her.

I am not really sure as it was our first time with a genie. It was definitely above and beyond and we made sure to tip him very well at the end of the cruise.

You can choose to live in fear or not. Our kids are 15 and 9 and were these ages on the cruise. If your a working parent, you have to be able to leave your kids at daycare and even at school where they are with people you don’t really know all day. At some point parents have to have faith that your kids are going to be OK.

If it’s an older child I don’t really see the issue. I mean you probably would know the genie better then you would the people at the kids club.

Didn't consider that or that kids actually go to school alone.  Thanks.  Probably better I didn't have kids.  We would have been on one of those episodes of Dr. Phil.
