CruizinKittie40 Posted August 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2019 Just wanted to get everyone's take on cruise shirts. I totally get having a family/group shirt for the sea day or another special occasion. There's one lady on our FB group who literally has shirts for every single day of our cruise. And I do mean every single day of our 7-day cruise. They have a shirt for each port day with the name of the port and the name of the ship on them. They have a shirt they are wearing to the airport. They have a casino shirt (I'm currently unsupervised! yeah I know it freaks me out too but the possibilities are endless!). They have a husband/wife shirt (insert long lovey dovey message followed by yes he/she made me wear this shirt). These are bright shirts --yellow, pink or if plain there is neon lettering. It's really none of my business, I realize this, but...isn't it all a bit tacky? Plus the fact that you are a now a huge target outside of the ship announcing you are a tourist and potentially have a lot of cash on your person. This is an Alaskan cruise but we were told in the Caribbean it's best to not even display something like an American flag lest you be a target for price gouging, at the very least. No attacks on anyone for personal preference of cruise fashion, I just wondered what the take was with my CC Family since I haven't really seen anyone discuss group shirts on this forum before. amyotravel Posted August 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I wouldn't do it, but whatever "floats their boat!" Hope they don't miss a port or anything - there goes a shirt... 1
BandBWCsmom Posted August 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2019 We won't do it. I (PERSONALLY) think it's tacky for ME. But, I don't tend to wear graphic tees anyway. More a solids/stripes kind of person. My husband, more because he's a LEO and doesn't want to invite unnecessary attention to him or his family ... especially as you said in a foreign country. But, we are also very quiet on social media about politics, religion, etc. Nothing that would warrant undue attention. However, I always think how cute when we go to Disney and see all the family matching shirts. Whatever floats your boat is right.
riffatsea Posted August 8, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I have only seen group shirts like for a family reunion. I would never do what you describe but then I also don't decorate my cabin door!! To me the ship is my hotel and I wear what I would wear in a hotel on land and where I'd never decorate the door there either!!

Not sure why I think that's different or better somehow, but I get it there.
cruisinmems Posted August 8, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2019 Our family has worn the t-shirts before, but only on boarding day. LOL
tw67 Posted August 8, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 8, 2019 We are celebrating my son's 21st birthday later this month, and will be in Key West. Yes, we will have matching shirts with his picture on them, telling everyone it is his birthday, and he will wear a shirt saying his name, that he is 21, and it will say something to the effect of buy me a drink or shot, etc... it is all just in fun. We have never worn matching shirts before as a family on any of our other cruises. On one girl cruise we all wore matching tshirts the day we borded, and it was fun. Not all of us had met each other before, friends of friends, so it was fun to connect that way. I still have the tshirt as a reminder for the fun time we had. I try not to worry about what other people wear, I am on a cruise to have fun, and spend time with my family. I am sure there is a lot that people can judge me for, if they are judging me for matching tshirts, they might also be judging me for being overweight in a bathing suit hanging out in the hot tub.
Butterbean1000 Posted August 8, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I can see boarding day, maybe, but every day?? I don't think so. I have too many cute clothes to wear tacky tshirts every day. 😀
Anyislandwilldo Posted August 8, 2019 #9 Share Posted August 8, 2019 We will wear matching shirts just once. But not for every port.
EarloftheSeas Posted August 8, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I haven't done it, but totally enjoy seeing the groups that do!
havanadaydreaming Posted August 8, 2019 #11 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I'd be highly amused by seeing groups wear themed shirts for each day of the cruise. I don't think that I would want to participate, personally, but to each their own.
fabby50 Posted August 8, 2019 #12 Share Posted August 8, 2019 We live in a really small town and work in a environment where everyone wears old beat up clothing as a rule because none of us want to wear anything nice to work in a manufacturing environment (clothing gets easily trashed). When we go on a cruise (or any vacation, or even out of town), we like to wear more upscale, fashionable gear. I like getting dressed up for dinner and wearing something other than tennis shoes, old pants and t-shirts during the day. I like to wear collared shirts or something more feminine since I don't get a chance in normal life. The t-shirts stay home.
beachbum6264 Posted August 8, 2019 #13 Share Posted August 8, 2019 All I know is that my husband would give me "that look" if I ever even mentioned wearing matching shirts! Not that I would. I used to have a "Got cruise?" shirt I bought on a cruise years ago - that's as close to a cruise shirt as I get. What anyone else wears? I really don't care.
Rare jimbo5544 Posted August 8, 2019 #14 Share Posted August 8, 2019 I see nothing wrong with wearing cruise t shirts. Would I wear them every day? No. With some of the things I have seen being worn out and about during a cruise, the least of anyone’s worries should be a cruise t shirt. TNcruising02 Posted August 8, 2019 #15 Share Posted August 8, 2019 (edited) While I wouldn't do it, I see nothing wrong with people wearing matching or personalized shirts. People have fun in different ways. Some people like putting stuff on their cabin doors. I don't do it, but I do like looking at the decorated doors. Other people like hiding and finding little cruise ducks. I like seeing as many comedy shows as possible in one night. Some people might think that's crazy. The great thing about a cruise is that people can do what makes them happy. It would be boring if everyone was the same. skrufy Posted August 8, 2019 #17 Share Posted August 8, 2019 (edited) Wife has gotten into the habit for the last few cruises. We only, or I should say I only wear it on embarkation day to make her happy. She might wear it a second day. One shirt is one too many for me. I am the planner for my group and I make t-shirts and sweatshirts for our travel groups for each cruise we go on. We buy matching clothing for many of the night and we compete as families to see who can find the most cruise appropriate clothing. Its fun and makes the preparation to the cruises more fun. Many in my family that don't cruise make fun of us and laugh at the pictures we take. I personally love people who put on clothing that may be a bit bolder or flashy or even what people may consider tacky on the cruises. I will always will go over and compliment and tell them i love their style. We have met many great and fun people this way! Do what you like and feel comfortable with - your on vacation.

We saw a couple of those on the Legend this past week and I asked DW "why is that duck there?" She educated me on the activity, which I thought was a little strange but harmless and fun for some. From posts I have read, it seems a lot of people have kids who get very excited about finding them in various places.
