Very unlikely as a solo cruiser!  But also, if I can afford another short cruise in 2021, I would prefer to try a different line as I enjoy trying new ships.  Also, I am only really interested in Aurora and Arcadia with P&O now and the majority of their cruises tend to be 16 nights or more these days, which makes a good deal even less likely 😁

I agree with this.  These are the only two P&O ships I would consider, and I never thought I would see the day that I "jumped" ship from my lovely Arcadia, but her cruises are mainly longer nowadays.   Then I booked an outside double picture window single on a certain Cunard flagship, and have been smitten ever since.

I sailed on the current QE in 2016 having only previously sailed with them on an eastbound TA aboard the lovely QE2 way back in 1995.  I thoroughly enjoyed QE and am hoping that I might do a Westbound QM TA in the next few years.  Sadly Cunard are not really friendly to my budget when cruising solo!

Do you mean October 2020 Jean?  Aren't we still waiting for the 2021 details?  Regardless, that is still a very good deal.  Also a bit worrying in some ways - if they are knocking cruises out at that price, I am worried that cuts will have to fall somewhere...

Yes I did mean 2020, it was just an example.  That was launch price.  And maybe because it's mid October.  Well pleased with that.  Same cruise is now £2199 on Select.  Our other cruise was quite a bit more, but still good value.

I did look at that one for 2020 Jean but ended up booking Aurora leaving Southampton about 6 days before for 18 nights.

Can I just clarify something regarding preregistering? Do you have to pay a deposit before you know which cabin you can have? If so, what happens if the offered cabin is not what you are prepared to accept? I am assuming I use a TA and not go directly to P & O. Thanks, Sue.

Booked early, you might be surprised by the single KC rooms on QM2, which are big, have two round windows and a "proper" shower with glass front, and located on their own corridor, which gets very little foot fall  - unless you specifically want Queens Grill, a balcony etc.   But they do go very quickly.

Thanks for the tip - I'll try to remember that.  My budget certainly wouldn't stretch to a balcony cabin, let alone the Grills 🤣.  I only do one or two cruises a year and already have the main one booked for 2020 and 2021, so maybe 2022 😁.

Janny,

Explorer 2 is sailing from the Tyne next July and August. If you go on their website and you should find it. My usual TA site does not list their sailings at all but do take the bookings. They have 7 night Fjords and 14 night Baltic cruises. They are not cheap however. The lead price is now around £130 pppn but includes tips and drinks package.

We of course make savings on travel, hotel and car parking which offsets the high prices.

daiB....thank you for the info....done a bit more digging and found the itineraries. Prices have certainly increased....last year on the Discovery for an outside cabin it was £89pppn with tips and drinks package....the lead in price for an inside cabin would have been less than that

One thing is for certain if you intend to go on Aurora in 2021 hope you like a lot of sea days. Pretty obvious P&O plan is to go slowly between ports so save on fuel and have plenty of sea days so that you are spending money onboard. Certainly trying not to appeal to people that have to work and cannot get time off work.

So many sea days don't even appeal to this pensioner,

Although it looks like a lot of sea days, most of the itineraries are longer ones and travel further - e.g. Venice, Greece and Northern Norway etc.  If I were looking for a longer cruise in 2021 there are several that would appeal to me on Aurora but after the expense of 39 nights aboard Arcadia in early 2021, at best I will only be able to justify a short cruise later in the year.

There seems to be a gap at the beginning of December. Refit perhaps?

It looks to be about 16/17 days and as she has recently had a re-fit, I would be surprised if she was due another one of that length so soon.  According to the P&O website https://ask.pocruises.com/help/PO/fleet/refit_schedule, she is not due for another one until 2023.

Not sure which cruises have lots of sea days with the ship going slow! True there are lots of sea days but most of the cruises are going to ports which are further away. The 2  I am interested in have no extra sea days than that I would expect for that cruise. The September USA one has a 4 day crossing to St John. To do that she will have to be shifting. I agree that cruises are of the longer variety, which suits us down to the ground. But I cannot see the slow cruising. Which is unfortunate as that would be our perfect cruise as I may have mentioned before.

Strangely enough Dai I probably agree with you that P&O ships don't cruise slower than others, On Indy we sailed in tandem with Britannia for the first 2 days out of Southampton, both ships keeping station until we slowed up for our Lisbon call.

However Indy did manage to fit in 8 ports on our 14 nt Med beaches cruise, while P&O med cruises will normally only have 6 or 7; and there are 2 19nt Med cruises on Aurora which only have 7 ports with calls no further than Athens, and Venice, so perhaps yopu can get P&O to explain why? These for us would be far too many sea days, especially on Aurora with its limited venues.

Sorry John 7 in 19 sounds perfect to me. 8 in 14 is far too many ports and would put us off completely. I would complain to P&O if they started putting in more ports. We may be looking at the USA cruise in September, that’s got lots of sea days.
