Change of itinerary without notification?

Just wondering if it was normal practice for Carnival to change a port of call without any notification lol. Just found it very odd.

When I booked our cruise, we were stopping in Nassau and now it says Princess Cays.

Could be many reasons, my guess it is roll over from Cuba changes....but who knows.  Frankly I think you are better off now....

Yeah, it was originally Cuba and then Nassau. I may be alone here, but I actually really like Nassau lol, I know a lot of people don't. I guess my question is more is it normal for them to just not even inform you.

My guess is you will have a letter in your cabin when you get there.  We have had it happen a couple times over 40+ cruises.  Enjoy your cruise and let us know your thoughts when you return.

In  15 years of cruising we never had an itinerary change. Then this year we booked a 17 day journeys cruise and then had three days and two ports dropped because of a fire at the dry dock site causing the Miracle to go to another dry dock which takes longer to refit the ship. Found out about this on this site, so far no official notification from Carnival. So, yes I would say it does happen now and then.

We have missed several tender ports, Cayman, Belize, and St.Martin which has a dock, it was too rough and windy. Too bad love St Martin, but the Captain does what's safe for their guests.

They made all the Cuba changes at the same time. Are you saying you were not notified about Cuba? bc that is when your whole itinerary was changed.

what cruise were you on that was tendering to St Maarten?

 

Was the tender because of so many ship visiting the port that day?

Have often had our itinerary changed but either get email (sometimes via our spam folder) or a letter when we arrive at the port.

 

I would be happy with the latest change

They do send out email notifications prior to the sailing date when there is a change to a scheduled port.  Likely it ended up in your junk mail folder.  Or you saw it and thought it was a spoof email.  The body of the email doesn't contain the information; they put it in an attachment, and the email itself tends to look suspicious because it just contains an attachment.  I have received at least a couple of these notifications.  They come from donotreply@carnival.com and the subject is: CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES - IMPORTANT NOTICE.  And again, it only contains an attachment; nothing in the body of the email itself.

I've had ports changed several times, mostly due to weather.   In 2017 our western itinerary was changed to an eastern itinerary due to Hurricane Charlie.   We've missed Grand Cayman and Costa Maya due to high winds.   Key West replaced the Grand Cayman stop a couple of times, but others we just skipped a port.

 

Our upcoming cruise was supposed to be Havana and Cozumel and now it's Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

Probably Irma in 2017, Charlie was 15 years ago yesterday.

When did you notice the change and when is your cruise?  The notifications may just be slow to go out.  It's not the same situation, but I had an excursion canceled in St Lucia.  I noticed because people here were talking about it and then i saw it missing from my cruise planner.  When I called Carnival, they said they were notifying people on the closer cruise dates first.  Ultimately, I did get a notification but it was about a week after I called.

I was never notified of our port change, I read it on CC and then looked it up. Was very disappointed to not go to Antigua and now Tortola. Carnival did this about 6 months ago and as yet have only two tours for this new port. Neither of which I want.

To answer your question - it's not "normal" but does indeed happen. Did you book through a travel agent? They would be notified of a port change. If you booked it on your own you should receive some type of correspondence, depending on how far out the cruise is.

Anyislandwill do - Re:  Nassau.  Do a day pass to Atlantis or Sandals.  They are both a taxi ride away and a nice way to spend a day.  We stayed at Sandals earlier this year and took a taxi over to Atlantis.  We got the aquarium pass, toured the aquariums, got a great drink at one of the bars, and visited the marina.  If you gamble, it's a pretty nice casino.  I liked looking at the architecture of the place and the décor (I do the same thing in Vegas - look at the themed décor).

So, I had a 'placeholder' for a 5- night on Feb 15 out of Jacksonville on the Ecstasy. Originally supposed to go to Nassau and Princess Cay but got an email from Carnival that the itinerary has been updated to Nassau and Freeport. "We're confident you'll love Freeport because ...." It's by no means am even swap, so we're going to cancel. Fortunately we booked with the slightly more expensive Past Guest option so we'll just move the deposit to something else. The punchline: the price for the New and Not-At-All Improved itenerary for new bookings went UP since yesterday.
