So if I order one item, a banana, I’m changed $7.95 + 18% gratuity.

Correct.

Note that continental breakfast is still available for no extra charge for a couple of hours each morning.  They may have a fruit selection.

I remember on my accidental spring break cruise, the hallways full of plates of half eaten food.  I imagine, that experiences like that are common on cruises with lots of kids and college kids.  The $9 a room is probably there for deterrent affect as much as a profit center.

I, personally, gave up room service before the charge was instituted when breakfast never showed up when I asked for it, usually 45 minutes late.  It is just easier to grab some WJ before whatever is going on.

We order coffee, a couple of pastries, and sometimes fruit or yogurt every morning.  We fill out the door hanger each evening specifying time of delivery and they call us in the morning to say it’s coming.  We use it as our wake up call.  We tip $2-no cost other than that.

If you order off of the complimentary continental breakfast,  to be delivered  during  designated breakfast  hours, everything will be delivered with no service charge.  Bananas are on the menu.    I know this wasn’t part of your question, but if you’d like some while fresh fruit in your cabin, you can pick up a variety in the wind jammer  and at many other dining venues.

Enjoy

A single banana was just a example.

The question is of the 18% gratuity.

We always prepay and give room attendant some cash.

Just wondering how the add 18% to complementary breakfast.

It looks like complementary breakfast times and menu is very limited.

lets say I order a hamburger at 9pm.

The sandwich is complementary (I think) but $7.95 room service plus 18%.

18% of what? The service fee.

There is no 18% service charge on complimentary breakfast, on those ordered we tip a few bucks cash to the delivery person.

All other orders, yes the service charge is 18% of the delivery fee, regardless of the size of the order; for us there is no cash tip for the delivery person on those orders.

Not a fan of Royal Caribbean coffee. Unless I am drinking a specialty coffee, tea is my hot beverage of choice on a Royal Caribbean ship!

The problem is, when ordering hot water from room service, the water has a faint smell/taste of coffee.

Before I retired, I spent a lot of time in hotels eating room service, usually very upscale hotels (for which a client was ultimately paying). As a fellow tea drinker, this was my ultimate pet peeve. Sometimes I would luck out and get a carafe dedicated to hot water which was great.

But you could also order 20 hamburgers for that same $7.95 plus 10% charge.

The $7.95 is a delivery fee, not a service fee. 🙂

If you ordered four burgers would you get four plates. Do you specify?

If you wanted four burgers on one plate, you'd need to tell them that.  Otherwise you'd get four plates with one burger each.
