Online check in...

Woohoo... We have been 'selected' to take part in a trial for online check in for our New Year cruise. 

I hope its easy for a technophobe like me. 

I am struggling to see how it works with your photo's etc. but I'm sure it will be self explanatory. 

Wish me luck, I'm going in..

Should be a breeze Andy, after all the new website went without a hitch as did the new Cruise Personaliser 🤣.

 I think you have to do a selfie, otherwise known as a mugshot.  When you arrive quayside, you stand in the dock when they do the trial.  Hopefully they give you a reasonable sentence and allowed to board.

We are also on the cruise. How did you find out you'd been selected?

Well if it's anything like getting my husband's new passport, it's a breeze.  Did it all online, paid the money, posted the old one.  New one arrived in 4 days!!

We used the RCI online check in this last summer, which was quite straightforward, but knowing how well P&O do IT, I am not sure theirs will be as easy.

That's my worry John, with my limited knowledge and P&Os IT skills, sounds like a car crash waiting to happen...

Yes, but you weren't dealing with P&O/Cunard's IT system .

I did an online check in on RCI.  Left the hotel at 10:45, walked to the terminal and I was in the Sky bar having my first drink at 11:05!

No, I assume that is the bit they do at the port. 

Or, I wonder if, like driving licences etc, they use recent pics for a period of time? 

Our last cruise was only in November, maybe that is why we were selected for the trial and others weren't. 

Just speculating.

As far as I understand the trial will be for the whole ship, as that is what happened a month or two ago.

Other posters, our friend Cathy for one, who are on the same cruise have not been invited.

I can’t understand how they can risk using an old picture.  A lot of facial hair can be removed or added in six weeks, certainly enough to make recognising someone in a photograph challenging from a security point of view.

If they operate similarly to RCI, then whatever photo they are using will be checked as you check in (RCI staff use an iPad) and if the photo does not match, then they will take a fresh one.
