They have just shut down the community centre and the tourist information centre, for good, not for covid. They sell parks up for development, all working from home. Its good to see someone is being realistic and preparing them for the truth. I'm afraid you are right there Chili, I spend a bit of time on the Celebrity board and some posters over there, are having trouble with reality. I read things about "will this ship get a major refit" what about my cruise to wherever, my favourites are those who think they have a clever way to get around the health protocols. And don't forget the entitled once who figure they will disregard the rules like they have in the past, almost daring the cruise line to kick them off. 2
Rare onlyslightlymad Posted February 6, 2021 #3105 Share Posted February 6, 2021 I thought this was an interesting and well written piece on the reopening of long haul travel. Not til 2023 according the to writer and I tend to agree. https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/travel-troubles/300223643/brace-yourself-longhaul-travel-may-not-get-going-until-2023

Long enough, leaves 1130 gets back about 2pm. Last time I checked $48 pp inc fish, chips and salad and the cruise from Batemans Bay to Nelligen. Half hour stop at Nelligen and return to Batemans Bay. Lunch is partaken on way up the river. Without lunch about $35. Pre book. Edited February 6, 2021 by NSWP
pully8 Posted February 6, 2021 #3113 Share Posted February 6, 2021 Cruising has begun in Tasmania met some people doing a cruise with Coral Expeditions small ship cruising. All had to have Covid 19 testing prior to boarding and at their own cost. Hope it all goes well and they enjoy Tasmania a beautiful place.

Australian pax, Australian crew that is why the government has approved the operations. They will not permit foreign ships in with foreign crew, albeit expedition ships with around 150 pax.
getting older slowly Posted February 6, 2021 #3118 Share Posted February 6, 2021 I would agree with Phillip and Lyle particularly on Ask a cruise question... a lot of ( most ) don't seem to get it... it is a pandemic... people are dying and a jab will not magically make it all just go away .... it is all about Me..... The longer time goes on I am now starting to wonder if cruising as we knew it... will come back ( new or otherwise ) Well have enjoyed our 80 odd day at sea... Time to increase the number of nights on the Spirit.... 24 and counting Well such is life..... Don

pully8 Posted February 6, 2021 #3121 Share Posted February 6, 2021 It was good to see Tasmania having not been there for some time. Flights each way were packed. The Hobart area and its harbour and many boats of all kinds was a joy to see. The people we spoke with who were going on the cruise were very pleased to be travelling again albeit with enhanced safety measures. Some had travelled from WA. We did the cruise on the Gordon river with lunch, the weather was perfect. The Bruny island cruise is another good one probably others too. Others we met especially people who have enjoyed cruising lament the current situation but understand the need for precautions. It is an easy way to travel to unpack once.
