I’ve done that as well😀. We tend to make the most and enjoy any port we visit. Gib has changed out of all recognition over the years. When we first visited by cruise the ships berthed near the centre, before they reclaimed the land.

Mind you, if the ship is doing a decent deal on Duty Free Gin, I don't even bother getting off the ship there... I'm hoping against hope that P&O will stop calling there so often once Brexit has actually happened but I doubt it as the fuel will probably still be cheap 🙁 I have noticed there’s quite a few P&O Med cruises next year that aren’t going to Gibraltar! Alternative....stuck at home for another 18 months.😷 Well put that way I guess I shall have to admit defeat 😂 What don’t I like about Gibraltar? The fact that it’s just an expanse of concrete full of shops with the only scenic bit inhabited by terrorist monkeys! Also, now that I know how much nicer Ceuta is directly opposite I shall be even more irritated every time a cruise ship that I am on calls in there!

I was thinking along the lines of a cruise needing to visit at least one tax free port in order to sell tax free goods in the shop. but once we leave the EU fully, then all EU ports will effectively be duty free for us. From what I remember Britannia’s med itinerary doesn’t have Gibraltar in it but Ventura’s has. So that explains why you didn’t notice!

I have a couple of friends who’ve been having some down days and problems. We’re not trivialising it we are just trying to lighten the gloom a bit. Sorry about your sister, must be awful for her. We are thinking about the ones worse off than us Josy, this is just part of our way of dealing with things. We might joke, laugh and trivialise, but many of us are suffering and this helps us cope. Sorry if you are offended, but a cruise forum gives us all the chance to step away from reality at the moment.. Andy 8

We are sitting around thinking about cruises that we are missing others have bigger problems. I'm so sorry to hear about your sister, and believe me, I fully understand the issues of dealing with someone with mental health problems. My eldest daughter is bi-polar and borderline personality disorder. Before she was assessed, diagnosed and finally treated, I spent many long hours on the phone with her day and night trying to help her and a few occasions at the hospital when she'd over-dosed. Thank heavens that's behind us now but as she lives alone, the stress of this lockdown is beginning to affect her , so we're back to the regular morning and nightly phone calls. Each and everyone of us on this forum is, in some way, being affected by this pandemic and lockdown. Whether medical, personal or financial, we post on here, and it eases the burden. We commiserate, sympathise, chat and laugh, it helps, or it did for me. No one on here trivialises the situation we're in but you can't get through this and stay positive without looking forward and planning your life after this is over. Reading these threads gives hope and contributing to them takes your mind off everyday issues. My best wishes to you sister. Avril 7
Roger88 Posted April 20, 2020 #798 Share Posted April 20, 2020 MY cousine has mental problems too. My grandma watches her 24/7.. 10 years ago we managed to take my grandma out for a cruise with her husband and stayed with my cousine for a week. Its so hard, you cant even imagine, I cant imagine how much inner energy and force should my grandma have to deal with her every day.. I wish no one will ever have a friend or relative in such a situation 3
brian1 Posted April 20, 2020 #799 Share Posted April 20, 2020 Spot on Andy and Avril. My OH got the news that her aunt and uncle died last week within days of each other. They lived in Hackney and she had dementure, they both contracted the virus from visiting carers. They were in their 80s.My OH's sister skyped us yesterday, she lives in Basingstoke with her disabled husband who also needs carers 3 times a day.The family has kept her in the dark over this to stop her worrying. She's trying to work out why they died so close to each other.Bloody nightmare with all this lack of testing and coverups. That's the serious bit over,I'll carry on having a banter with you lot now. 5
