I believe inmates are people also. And they are high risk given their living conditions. Home health care aides have far more opportunities than inmates to acquire and use PPE. So, the policy decision makes sense to me.

I NEVER said they are not people, I agree they certainly are.  I just feel to prioritize them over essential workers makes zero sense.  They of course should be vaccinated, but there is a time and place for everything.  Prisons in MA have provided PLENTY of PPE for inmates and authorities and rightfully so.  I will not do a back and forth on this but Home Health Care Aides, taking care of vulnerable people in their homes, many many many different homes, where they don't know who has been where, but are still willing to do so, makes ZERO sense that they are behind inmates, ZERO!!

There are  inequities in the distribution priorities in certain places. We are all at the mercy  of those making the lists!

There are also not  enough doses for those chosen to be first.  Our Fl county had 150 doses for folks over 65..first come first served..online res. Res appts filled almost immediately. Easier to get a hot concert ticket these days.

I am posting just to say Happy New Year to all who enjoy these X threads! We are in the FL Panhandle, it’s rainy and we are ‘celebrating’ just the two of us, but I just wanted to post something that has 2021 as a date!!!

Hi Den,

And a "Happy New Year" to you.

I wanted to post something with a 2021 date -- would like to forget much of the year 2020.

Just the two of us here in sunny, but chilly New Hampshire (28 degrees and snow predicted for tonight).  We still enjoy living here, but are looking forward to being able to cruise again someday -- hopefully not too distant in the future.

Happy 2021! We were lucky to get word early that the vaccine  was available for 1B (+65) and got our first doses of Moderna on Monday after waiting an hour. As the week progressed the distribution system got bogged down with long waits in cold damp weather. Hoping they will get something better in place. This was through our county health department.

We were to the train from Fairbanks to Anchorage some years back.   We got to talking to a lady train rider.  She said that she goes to Fairbanks/Anchorage often to visit Grandchildren and that day was the 1st time she had ever see the top of Denali!  The view was magnificent!

Got our 1st dose of Moderna today at a local hospital in Arcadia Fl ( historic cowboy town) It is located away from major tourist and retirement communities and we had  to drive a bit over 1 hr..,..We had a place  near there in the 80/90s when we first started visiting Florida.

The process was very well organized.. we booked via phone call, had info numbers to call with any questions.  They kept to the schedule, had wonderful staff, assist from local law ofcrs, good med supervision.  Easy parking!

We are very lucky!  Kudos to DeSoto Memorial Hospital....great model of how to get it right. Our next dose is on reserve..hope we can stop at the strawberry farm along the way!

Are they actually reserving your second dose? I got my first Moderna a week ago, but then told us they would call.  My sister has an appt to return.

Ours are reserved and they gave us an appt date. Desoto Memorial Hospital , Arcadia  Fla had this well organized. No choice on appt date and times but we worked around it.

Have heard others have to wait on 2nd shot appts..hope you get yours soon.

We are still in a Vaccine snail-pace in PA.  Only about 1 in  3 doses delivered to date.  Hopefully we will get soon to the 65+ population as directed by the CDC.  I am happy that places like FL are at least trying!  And some of you are reporting that you received vaccine doses!  With so many infected and dying here in PA, I am not sure why the pace cannot be picked up.  Here is the latest.  We are still in Phase 1A here - HCW's and nursing homes.

Not a very optimistic report...

Fla is trying......new appt options.  Reaching out with  mini events at Senior Communities, churches etc,  Small steps but issue seems at the forefront.

Good luck to everyone,.and stay safe!

hcat- would you have even received a vaccine dose at this point if you were still at home in NY state?

Here in Scotland they have concentrated on care homes first which have had a ridiculous amount of fatalities, I would give up my place in the 65+ group if they would inoculate teachers. hate seeing kids not getting schooled.

In New York state I finally was able to make an appt. March 16. 2 months away. On a good note my husband who is an essential worker and has been sent home 3 times for possible exposure was able to get his first shot today. With both of us over 65 I am grateful he could at least get it.

Hi Laura,

We just received notice that we can schedule our vaccine administration on 22 January.  that should place us in good stead for our next scheduled cruise -- 19 September, 2021 (aboard American cruise Line).

Keeping our fingers crossed.

We received our first Pfizer vaccine here at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY. We were lucky to get online the day link went live. Now there aren’t any new appointments for at least 10 weeks. On February 6th we get the 2nd vaccine and will be ready to cruise whenever CDC approve it!  Definitely will travel once fully vaccinated!

Absolutely not!

NY just lowered  the age from 80 to 65 so we would just now qualify.

From what we read & hear:

L.I. has inadequate supply,  reservation and distribution processes,

Has odd priorities from our perspective. Poor management.

Folks are given appts, then cancelled.

No reservation for 2nd  shot appts,..big issue! Hopefully,  ours is being held on reserve for our next date,

Many of the  NY mass distrub plans for L.I.  involve long lines of cars that wait hrs  at public beach,  other facilities in cold weather. In Fla , we  did not do a drive through location . We parked our car, were escorted in, registered & were given the shot & observed for set time..less than  a bit over an hr . Even the drive throughs  are reported to be running better now.  Some getting shots at CVS and Publix grocery stores.

Fla was slow getting organized but  much better now  and improves each day!

Still not enough supply!  We are happy here at home in Fla for now!

Yeah...it's going to take awhile. What I didn't like to read in today's newspaper however is that millions of people from out-of-state are researching the potential vaccine distribution points for PA. I personally feel that people should not be allowed to cross state borders to get a vaccine. Let everyone wait their turn in their home states.

If they have to cross into very slow PA to get a vaccine then their own state is in real trouble!
