Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

After viewing another couple of interesting installations on Barangaroo Reserve, I headed indoors to The Cutaway at Barangaroo.

Three consecutive silent documentaries were projected on all four walls of a large room.02A93C7E-4477-45D8-821F-F5A3A520AEDB.thumb.jpeg.8525ebec1308887218b6ba76977d0e1d.jpeg

Then I continued onto Darling Harbour.  Outside The Crown, there was this gorgeous installation.B264919B-8FA4-47E1-8821-C0EA355DE15B.thumb.jpeg.e46d0892d64c39901949d1bd1f7a95dd.jpeg

You can kinda see it in the photos - in the water surrounding the floating installation were lights that flickered like jumping fish.  Really well done.

Busy day today. Had the bug guy come for spraying, had electrician install ceiling fans, new TV came today. We are looking to also have the patio screened. Boxes everywhere!

To me a screened in patio is a must down here. Wished we had one, but the way our pool is and the set back from the water that’s required we can’t get one or it would cut off some of the pool deck. We had one built for the orchids which is what I call my shade house but we don’t hang out in there. I’m only in there if I’m working.

Renee, those orchid pics are luscious. We tried several times to grow them but none made it long. You certainly have the knack!

Orchids are easy to grow if you know a few things about them. Most of them, depending on which type, like to dry out a little between watering. Most people want to water them like a house plant which isn’t what they need. It causes the roots to rot.

@ReneeFLL Renee I envy your green thumb.  All the pictures, even if some aren't yours, are spectacular.

Thanks.

And my final installation viewing was on the roof of the Maritime Museum & projected on HMAS Vampire which is moored at the museum.

You won’t be surprised to learn that this year’s theme is Vivid Sydney, Naturally.  Mother Nature.

Still got theRoyal Botanic Gardens to see & considering seeing the installations at Taronga Zoo, which I’ve never seen before.

Can anyone tell me what page number Renee’s orchids were posted on please?  I missed the photos.

Funny you should ask. I was  just scrolling back to find a post from Coralc & I came across @ReneeFLL orchids pics. They are on pages 3820 - 3821.

Her pic are beautiful as are yours. A visual feast for the eyes.

These art installations look amazing. I’ve always liked images and video projecting onto buildings. I would love to know how they do it. Must be some powerful projectors.

Greg, I am doing a special small group tour of the Opera House soon.  This is the info.  Hopefully I can ask about the Vivid projections on the sails with the experts for you.7E394D77-8EEB-4E28-8863-4418954A0BF9.thumb.png.5cbdbad1c5220005099dc2f2392bd56e.png

Happy Birthday, OB @Ocean Boy, have a wonderful day!

@h20skibum, Mark, Happy Birthday to your daughter and your sister-in-law.

@Luckynana, Maryann, your grandchildren are just amazing with all their achievements.  I see Ava as a lovely young lady.  Jack and Ryan as fine young men.

@Momof3gurlz, Deb, I love the idea of the overhang in your backyard for the BBQ setup.  So great that Handy Andy will be able to put it together.

@aussielozzie18, thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures.  They are awesome.

My mom celebrated her 96th birthday Sunday 5/28.  We all celebrated with her with all her children and grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

And @HBE4 if you do get the opportunity, please take a photo of the turtle signs. We both cracked up when I told Bill about them. (Edit: Never mind, I can probably find the knee high turtle signs online, too.) 😊

Ok, so when I first saw the signs last week, it just a quick glance when driving by.  Yesterday, I made sure to look for them. Turns out, they are not "official" road signs from the highway or parks department but "temporary"  signs put up by a local conservation group.  I noticed 3 signs, all located near wetlands or a catch basin (?), used to capture water runoff from a golf course located within the park.

20230531_165032.thumb.jpg.c2c4d3d8fa6a85499587faa1f883d28f.jpg

I did my best to capture the height by taking a selfie but my photographic skills pale in comparison to everyone else's.  The sign lines up with my thigh, the top being just below my hip & bottom being just below my knee.  (I'm 6'2)

20230531_165101.thumb.jpg.535528aae2c60d7e0320b9aaa29b22ac.jpg

I asked someone who jogs the park almost daily & he thinks they are mounted low so drivers will glance down to read it & might notice a turtle on the road. While that might sounds dangerous, these are roads within  Rockland Lake State Park so the speed limit is 15 or 20 m.p.h. Not exactly high speed driving, although some people do.

We have kamikaze brush turkeys that dart across a busy road near us.  Some of the locals did  put up handwritten signs “slow down - turkeys crossing” but I think the council took them down.  The brush turkeys are pretty speedy though so I don’t think one has been hit yet….

That was a new one for me too.   When I read White rabbit, all I could think of was this.

This was the first thing I thought of too.  Jefferson Airplane was the first big concert I attended.  I saw them later when they change their name to Jefferson Starship. Great memories!

Happy Birthday to your daughter and SIL.

Our friends we visited in Boynton Beach before the Bella cruise, have an overhang against their house that they screened in on all 3 sides and can be raised and lowered automatically with the touch of a button.  Comes in handy at dusk when the mosquitos/buggies are out.  I noticed that the majority of houses I saw in Florida do have a screened room.
