ProgRockCruiser Posted August 11, 2020 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Pack of cards - asked for two, actually. It doesn't really occur to me to ask for such items unless actually useful to me. We got the cards because it seemed like a great way to while away the time one afternoon. But we both couldn't remember the rules to any particular two-person card games! So we made up a set of rules that vaguely resembled Rummy. I think. But beyond that, and such minor essentials like a toothbrush that you might have forgotten like @hard_eight noted, I don't know what else I could ask for that I would deem useful enough to pack and take home. I need to go browse the Celebrity forum to see what kind of goodies are achieved in such manner.
firefly333 Posted August 11, 2020 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Also deck of cards at guest services. I didnt have a corkscrew to open wine and the bar tenders arent allowed to open it. You have to call room service who gave me a plastic cork screw with carnival logo, but cost me a tip so not sure that counts.
drsel Posted August 11, 2020 Author #5 Share Posted August 11, 2020 It depends if the tip was more than the cost of the corkscrew

Schoifmom Posted August 11, 2020 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2020 If you have a special occasion and message John Heald on FB a few days prior to your cruise, he will also send something to your room. Otherwise, I don't really get a big kick out of asking for "extras" unless I really need something.
LadyMac72 Posted August 11, 2020 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2020 My first Carnival cruise was for my son's high school graduation and John Heald had a half dozen chocolate covered strawberries delivered to our room. My son was so tickled and he devoured them. I was really impressed and gushed over this to our cruise director (Big Sexy Josh Waitzman) and he sent another half dozen to our room.

Rare chasinraynbowz Posted August 11, 2020 #11 Share Posted August 11, 2020 I get free stuff all the time!! Cookies, strawberries, wine..... from the casino! LOL, so I guess its not so free!! haha! Seriously though, one of the casino hosts saw us on shore with our grandkids one day and sent us, out of the blue, 4 fruit tarts with pastry cream (yummmmy). It was such a nice gesture. The grands loved them, as did we!!

wikoffclan Posted August 11, 2020 #14 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Years ago --- 2008 - 2015 (?) --- we got a basket full of goodies in the bathroom that included toothpaste, nose strips, razors and more. Also chocolates on the pillow, a pen and paper and postcards. Lately I've gotten a pack of cards from guest services, plus platinum perks like Tervis cups and keychains. The best things we got "years ago" were the "returning cruisers" cocktail party starting with your second cruise (Where everyone cheered for the ships they'd sailed on)! And the Farewell cocktail party open to all. Those were the days!

sgttami Posted August 12, 2020 #19 Share Posted August 12, 2020 I've never asked for anything for free. I get a lot of perks and freebies through the casino and usually give them away to people I meet on the cruise...cooler bags, blankets, tumblers etc. First time cruisers love it and I'm happy to share. And I'm happy i don't have to haul it home! My days of collecting "stuff" are over....LOL

xDisconnections Posted August 12, 2020 #21 Share Posted August 12, 2020 (edited) The automatic gratuities. Before anyone comments: it’s a joke. Not turning this into a tipping thread or suggest someone removes their tips. No, I did not ask for them to be removed.
