Ocean View port hole not above bed

Myself would prefer it as shown as it would be there when we wake up and it would be easier to see out of during the day. Especially seeing the chair MAY NOT be there.

That pic shows a window, not a porthole, but I imagine you know that and were just using it as illustration. I don't know of any way to be sure on this issue, but I can tell you for sure that we've never had the window above the bed on any Princess ship. It's always as your photo shows. I think I read here that some of the cabins on Plaza on some of the ships are smaller than average and do have the window/porthole above the bed.

I was on the Star (2014) on Plaza deck; the window was above the bed.  I did not like that.

Since then, I've been on the Emerald, Crown & Ruby in (barely) obstructed view cabins & all had the window opposite the beds.  I really like those cabins.  It's not a balcony, but it's a very nice picture window for the view.

Was going to suggest Renmar's extensive set of cabin view pictures on Google, but looks like they have taken down his site.  This is really the kind of thing that Cruise Critic should be hosting, but for some reason they don't.

I believe on the Crown, Emerald and Ruby, rooms that accommodate 4 people have the beds under the window. Unfortunately, P's website does not show which rooms hold 4. I keep a copy of the P's Atlas so that I can check.

You can easily find cabins that can handle a 3rd or 4th passenger by searching the deck plans on the Princess website. Just select the number of guests in the selection box on the left and those cabins will be highlighted. You can also determine when the 4th berth is a roll-away if you have access to a Princess annual atlas (assume no atlas this year). You can also try this site.

The Internet Archive appears to have an old copy of his site (2017)

Renmar's site doesn't show where the beds are; it's strictly views out the window.

On the Grand-class ships (so this does not include the Sapphire/Diamond/Sea/Sun), oceanview cabins on Emerald Deck all have the bed on the side wall, not under the window, unless the cabin has upper bunks.  All the oceanview cabins on Plaza Deck have beds under the window.

On the Pacific Princess, oceanview cabins on Deck 4 (the sort-of equivalent to Plaza Deck) have the bed on the side wall, not under the window.  I believe the same is true for oceanview cabins on her Deck 3, which are truly porthole windows.

I know nothing about the oceanview cabins on the new big ships, so can't speak to that.

Renmar's great Obstructed View cabin content has been migrated to CruiseDeckPlans.com.

Here are direct links to each Princess ship's obstructed view page:

(On the website's Princess Cruises Ship Fleet page, you also can click on a ship then "Obst-View".)

*NOTE:  Currently the Majestic/Sky/Enchanted/Discovery obstructed view pages are empty, so for Royal class ships right now you could go to the Regal Princess obstructed view or Royal Princess obstructed view pages.

Royal class do not have OV cabins, only insides and balconies.  On the Island/Coral the only OV cabins with beds on the side wall are on Fiesta deck by the casino, and on Island, aft on Fiesta where Universe Lounge was.  EM

We've had it both ways.  Of course we prefer it NOT be above the bed!  When we were on the Sapphire, it was above the bed, but there were other "redeeming" aspects to the cabin (longer desk with extra shelving, kettle with coffee and tea and the location was great), we were not too bothered by the window location.

The only way I know of to figure out what the cabin configuration is: ask around and someone may have had that cabin and can fill you in, go to one of the websites that show actual photos of your cabin, or a youtube tour for your particular cabin.

I have never had a Princess atlas nor have I ever even seen one?  Where would you get one of those?

And you shouldn't know anything about those cabins because on the new big ships, the Royal class, there aren't any!

Starting with the Sky, there are a few oceanviews on Sun deck.

They may only be using balcony rooms for a while when cruising starts. You could.  get a nice upgrade or be bumped. I would not book a room that does not have a balcony at least through 2021. I believe Mein Schiff  did not book inside or ocean view rooms for their current sailings.

this could all change, of course. If they allow you to book anon balcony room and then later offer an upgrade for cash, You should take it. I would not want to be stuck in a room with no outside access and I have booked a-lot of obstructed view rooms in the past

I hear ya and I agree....I want a balcony now with the uncertain times.  And while I don't think what happened to us on the Coral would happen again, but you never know?
BTW, when we got confined to our cabins on the Coral they moved everyone to cabins with a balcony.   Very nice of Princess to do so.

Go to Princess web site.

Near the bottom on the right click on "Get a Princess Brochure"

Normally (and now is not a normal time) you will find a downloadable version there under the name "Destination Collection."

But with so many voyage cancellations and ship changes, this and most brochures are not currently available.

Just wanted to point out that @Renmar's site, original and new host, is specifically for Obstructed and Partially Obstructed cabins so customers can have a pretty good idea of the view - or lack of one - prior to booking.  The are lots of OV category cabins that are Unobstructed and therefore not represented.  But as stated, the photos are all out-the-window and not of the interior.

When you are looking at the cruisedeckplans website for obstructed view cabins, you can click on the "details" box, select a ship (if multiple ships are shown) and it will show you photos of the room (if available), which might show the bed location.

Not all rooms have uploaded photos, so its not a guarantee.
