shipgeeks Posted October 26, 2020 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2020 Beds are usually a bit low, but as long as I use a hard-side suitcase, and push it under the bed opened out, it's fine. The other issue is whether your cabin steward stores the alternate bedding under the bed; this can limit the amount of space available.

I haven't been on a ship yet that we haven't stored our bags under the bed. Be aware, on some ships, the bed has drawers (usually holding extra bed linen) underneath, across the foot of the bed, so you have to shove the bags under from the side. And some beds are a bit low, but opening the suitcase flat before putting it under there works. Also, lifting up on the bed frame (that's usually what's the low spot) before shoving bags under helps. Obviously you have not been on the RCI ship Grandeur of the Seas. The only thing that can fit under the beds is dust.

On the Grandeur, we managed to get our luggage under the beds all the time. Maybe because our luggage is soft sided??? We have actually put one suitcase in another and slid them under bed. And then I have easy access to the things I leave there.
cb at sea Posted October 28, 2020 #11 Share Posted October 28, 2020 You can lift the bed frame, if the suitcases won't slide under easily.

We had no problem in January 2019 - we did have to lift the bed a couple of inches to slip bags past the frame, which is the lowest part. But I did notice that a lot of dust was stored there.
Rare sparks1093 Posted October 29, 2020 #13 Share Posted October 29, 2020 We have always stored our suitcases under the bed and since they are stored open we use them to hold our dirty laundry.
evandbob Posted October 29, 2020 #14 Share Posted October 29, 2020 To offset the small chance that the previous occupants brought bed bugs into the cabin, make sure to inspect the bedding first. This can be easily done along with any other precautions one uses for cabin safety before unpacking.

Many people do not believe that bed bugs exist on cruise ships but we have found definitive evidence of them on several cruises.
