I heard about 20 minutes ago from my nieces that their Mother passed away last night just before midnight.  She went to be with those babies I'm betting.  The girls were notified ahead of time and made it to the hospice in time to be with her.

My DS is finally at peace and with her loved ones in heaven.

My the Angels lead her into  heaven and may the Holy martyrs welcome her.

Eternal Rest Grant unto her Oh Lord and may she rest in peace.

Hold on to the image you mentioned last night - she is holding the twin babies in heaven right now.❤️

Ahh, thanks 🙂.  Seems my other good deeds yesterday were not - even casting blame on me for something I didn’t do at all not to mention the vitriol on some threads.  I’ll just stay here and on my roll calls and garden today 😉

This is the main reason why I rarely post on threads other than the Daily.  I probably would not even visit CC on a daily basis if it wasn’t for the Daily and the Happy Place Rich has created along with you and Roy and all of the other contributors. We have become a safe place with great caring people.

Good morning.  Really late today.  Have my besty coming down for the month so the house needed to be cleaned. LOL  Love Hot Air Balloons, such a great experiene.  Trails and World Environment sorta go together.  Will skip the menu as I don't like Lamb.  Looking forward to the photo's of today's port.  I had to google it to find out where it is.  I totally agree with the quote, the younger generation seems to be the most knowledgeable.    Love that all the crew are getting vaccinated.  It's getting closer and closer.  Will have to go back and read now.

Prayers and virtual hugs to our care list and a big toast to our shout outs!

Stay safe, social distance, and please continue to wear your mask.

A hot air balloon ride was something my DW and I had always wanted to do, and there’s a bit of a story as to where we finally got a balloon ride.:classic_rolleyes:

Over the years we had tried to fit in a ride with one of the local companies but were never able to arrange it to our convenience. Seeing my DW had a significant birthday coming up in a couple of years, I suggested we do a balloon ride to celebrate it. As her birthday is in October and we frequently traveled to the Southwestern US at that time of the year, I was thinking of somewhere like New Mexico.

Oh! Was I wrong!!

She soon came up as to where she wanted to do her birthday balloon ride – the Serengeti.

So, in 2008 we were off to East Africa for a typical safari excursion, which included a balloon ride over the Serengeti on her birthday.

Like ‘travelnap’ mentioned, we had to get up very early (in our case 2am) to drive some distance to the departure point, so that we were airborne at sunrise.

The sun rising as we arrive.

image.png.5d42731a4f90ac5eb3c88ec38084bf4c.png

They have a regulation that there can only be two balloons in the Serengeti, so the company that has the contract, built two special large 16-passenger models.

image.png.03df1d68abfb973b2833552a82e56f88.png

The basket in which 2 people are placed in each small compartment. How they place people caught us at a bit of a surprise. We are fairly short, so we were put in one of the inside compartments and the taller people went in the outside compartments. We thought this to be somewhat unfair, as we then would have to look around the taller people to see some of the views. They then explained, that the inside compartment were close to the propane burners and there was the risk taller people would get their hair scorched!!

image.png.ea37b84001ab81e37e7f6a95364b2768.png

While in flight, we flew at various heights. Down lower to see the wildlife.

Some hippos.

image.png.5fe8d582c4ba4587d41b04223cdca219.png

Including one still out of the water.

image.png.c96a81a7bde18624e319be98faa1bdda.png

An ever present giraffe.

image.png.cdec5d452f73cc6cb9efeabb7eb00e34.png

Then higher to get a better overall view of the Serengeti, including the second balloon.

image.png.09fff63b2b3fd67d26233d548ea09341.png

As we were coming in for a landing, we flew over some lions with a fresh kill. They are in a circle in order to protect it from hyenas.

image.png.b47076c95f95d4bfb49e1ed99995f7b2.png

Once we landed, there was a number of hyenas which blatantly ran right through our group on their way to the kill.

image.png.40b8c2d3ea8455195db8f4085a64034d.png

The second balloon landing.

image.png.4bd6b9964bc3884eaf7f6cce53e9066a.png

We were also treated to a champagne breakfast, with the servers dressed in period costumes.

image.png.b431a1279d8c6d5bdcca9027848661e7.png

image.png.baef0fa063e10b6f561d794b98df1809.png

If you look behind the table, you will notice a couple of canvas enclosures, with a guy standing in one. These were the portable toilets which they had setup for us.

And, as it seems to occasionally happen went you are travelling some distance from home, when we queried the couple sitting across from us at the table as to where they were from, they replied Canada. When we asked where in Canada, they said Alberta, but from a place we likely never heard of, St. Albert – which we live only a short distance away from.🙂

So sorry to hear this additional news concerning your family.  No words are even remotely adequate during these times.  So glad you were able to visit your sister the other day.  May your faith and memories bring you and your family comfort.

Good morning, Dailyites, and thanks to Rich, Roy, Jacqui and the Food & Drink Department...  So sorry, @StLouisCruisersabout your sister.  This has been a very difficult time for you.  Think of the fun she'll be having up there with the twins.  Nowadays when someone I love passes away, I remember the saying by St. Thomas More  - "Pray for me, as I will for thee, that we may all merrily meet in Heaven", and I think of them all having a great time together.

We have been to St. Pierre & Miquelon.  One time we were visiting DD in Gander, along with DSIL and her husband, and Cathy said "Let's go to France for the weekend".   DSIL looked blank.  We took the ferry over and stayed in a B&B in town.  We must have rented a car, because we drove around a lot.  We stocked up on French wine, and everyone declared their quota when we got back to Newfoundland, the others got away with it, but Pat and I were charged duty.  Never figured that one out.

Views from our room - very French

More from St. Pierre - one evening we had dinner in a little restaurant and Cathy (DD) ordered lobster - what arrived was the hugest platter of lobster we had ever seen.  DD ate her fill and had the rest bagged up to take back to the B&B.  The next day we bought baguettes and filled them with the leftover lobster for lunch for all of us.

Today's sunrise is from my  2009 Blount cruise from Chicago to New Orleans.  On June 5 we were at Grand Rivers, Kentucky.

I was up and out early this morning for groceries and oatmeal at Panera before it got too hot to sit outside:

Good morning, all! I’ve been in a hot air balloon once, in Hunter Valley north or Sydney Australia a few days before the world collapsed. It was a sunrise flight followed by a champagne breakfast. It was magical, and if the World Cruise had to end abruptly, that was a perfect note to go out on! I love lamb, and cranberry mimosas. Rich, in my books you’ve outdone yourself today! I’ve never been to the port, but hope to eventually.

We returned to Salt Spring yesterday, so I can have coffee in bed gazing at the forest this morning.
@StLouisCruisersSandi, there is only so much loss a family can endure at one time. My deepest condolences again to you and your whole family.

@kazuJacqui you are so right about some of the toxic threads! There are a couple of people, and I KNOW you’ve encountered them, that I’ve learned to mutter ‘never get them wet, never feed them after midnight’  and move on without responding. You are always properly appreciated here!

I will contribute a couple of hot air balloon pictures from sunrise in the Hunter Valley.

It's getting that way for me, the snark and attacks just for using the wrong word is not only ridiculous, but starting to make my facebook groups appear civilized.  From now on I'm staying on this daily thread and my roll calls only.

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and what a great collection of days.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to the Daily. Thank you for the lists Jacqui and Roy. Prayers for those on the Care list. @ger_77 I’m so sorry about the loss of your uncle. @StLouisCruisers I know I said this before but please remember that I’m praying for God’s Grace for you and your family.

Our meals here at the cabin are limited to what we brought and can grill, so today’s meals are chicken and pork chops. There are numerous trails around here on Mt Lemmon but I am happy to just stay on the dirt road that runs through where the cabin is, although it is very rocky and you really have to watch where you are walking. I took a bad spill 2 years ago walking Blue and don’t want a repeat that again.

I took this picture because the squirrels were playing but you can also see part of the road.

Another sunset picture taken by DGD:

Tomorrow DD, her boyfriend and her son (our other grandchild) are coming for lunch so I have a lot of food prep to do today. We are having ribs, peppers with goat cheese, corn, macaroni salad, corn muffins and blueberry cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Most of it is already done because I don’t like to do too much here, the kitchen is the size of a closet with a tiny microwave/oven that sits so low that I have to sit on a step stool to read the controls. 🤣But I still need to prep the peppers and mix the macaroni salad ingredients together.  We should have a good time. BTW, because of that I probably won’t be able to read tomorrow’s Daily until late.

Have a great day everyone!D1F9EECD-4BEA-4D69-AB73-8217B0A01935.thumb.jpeg.4328012d27597a7ec8904ec784c932cc.jpeg

Good morning.  First of all, my deepest sympathies to @StLouisCruisers

Thanks to all the contributors, prayers and thoughts to all.

Hot air balloons, no way!  That's in the same category as parachuting from planes and bungee jumping.  Not going to happen.  I couldn't even handle the High Roller in Las Vegas.  This picture was the only time I went up to the window.BG.thumb.jpg.88ba8bd6acf657b842dba044eab43cce.jpg

No lamb for me but I will go with the Mimosas.😁

Seems rain is the order of the day for most places, Seattle included, but no surprise there as it's still prime June Gloom season.  It cooled off too, I awoke to very cold temps and I think the thermostat said 58, yikes!  So it's definitely going to be a hang out at home day I think with not too much planned, I'm caught up on most of my housework, so maybe a load of laundry.

I hope you all have a great Saturday or Sunday (for those of you in the eastern hemisphere).

Thank you so much for the balloon pictures. I can’t believe the size of the basket for your flight and the one for @GeorgeCharlie? Wow. 😳

The touchdown is always fun. My first flight, Rebecca Magee was one of the chasers (and one of my Sunday School students) and she said, “Mrs. Dehner, did you close your eyes for the landing?” Yes, I did. Unlike me, Rebecca is a brave woman. She set 3 world records for a female pilot, with no basket, just dangling in a seat below the balloon. Her altitude reached 3149 meters. She flew 98.4 km in 2 hours.
