Odyssey of the Seas Production Shows in Pictures

Currently on board Odyssey of Seas and once again taking in the production shows.  I'll use this thread to post pictures of the shows that I've managed to secure reservations for.

First up is Showgirl! Past. Present. Future.

Showgirl! is a powerful Royal Caribbean original entertainment production that can be found on a couple of Royal Caribbean ships.

Some other ships have a slightly different Showgirl! variation based on the technology and production equipment available on each ship.  Since Odyssey is the newest ship at the moment she has all the cranes, hoists, variable stage lifts, automation and other technology to really make this production shine.

I've seen the show before and enjoyed other variations on different ships but the current cast on Odyssey of the Seas is really spectacular.

In preparation for sailing Odyssey of the Seas again I reached out to Royal Caribbean to seek permission to take photos of the entertainment on board.  While some shows do have photography and/or video restrictions, Showgirl! just asks for no flash photography.

Here are some of the photos from the November 15 sail date with none other than Nick Weir himself in attendance.  Nick is the Senior Vice President of Entertainment for the entire Royal Caribbean Group including all brands within the group.  This show was created by Nick and his very talented team.

Feel free to reply but no need to "quote" the photos.  Thanks.

Next up is The Book: Seven Chapters, One Adventure!

The Book: Seven Chapters, One Adventure! is Royal Caribbean's newest Two70 show found exclusively on Odyssey of the Seas.

The Book is an eclectic, unpredictable and epic journey that transports its "readers" to amazing new worlds of mystery and wonder.

This is a dynamic form of entertainment and it has to be experienced live as pictures simply can't capture all that is going on.

I'm surprised they allowed pictures in the theater.  On the Allure 10/31 sailing they were quite specific that no pictures or video would be permitted during the performance.

Mamma Mia! is a Broadway show performed under license.  The owners of the production impose photography restrictions just as it would have on Broadway.

The shows on Odyssey of the Seas are all produced by Royal Caribbean and they have the last word on photography for these shows.

The Effectors!

Royal Caribbean Entertainment has entered the superhero business.

The Effectors is a group of superheros with awesome abilities based entirely on creativity.   The Effectors take the stage to demonstrate their awesome powers and then come together to battle their arch nemesis Crash as he tries to take over the world with his army of airborne Drone Soldiers and scary henchmen.

This show should not be missed.  You might even book Odyssey of the Seas just to see this powerful show and the extensive use of technology making it the most technologically advanced show in the cruise industry.

A well known You Tuber guy from Canada was on this ship recently and raved about all the shows.

I just got off Anthem and while I knew they were the same ones from 2016, the two big ones were cancelled due to performers recovering from Covid. I was thinking of Odyssey while on Anthem.

Now I see lots of nice photos - yea.

So as a side note, I was just saying to myself two days ago, WONDER WHAT SHIP TWANGSTER IS ON?

Now I know and now it makes me happy to see great photos and know that I will enjoy my B2B on Odyssey next April.

Thanks again.   I did get to take photos without flash of GREASE on Harmony back in 2016.

I cannot wait to see The Effectors. It was not on our last two Odyssey sailings in Aug & Sept. We also enjoyed Tap Factory, Showgirls, and The Book. We will be seeing them all again.

The Effectors was incredible! Lighting, music and staging were way beyond anything I've ever seen on a cruise ship

Spectacular pictures, Twangster! I’ve already targeted this ship as the next one I want to book. I’m sure we’ll love it! Now I just need to find a sail date that will work for us. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but as much as I enjoy my shore excursions, I may not even bother getting off this ship in port!

Outstanding photos as usual from you @twangster!  Everyone else...if you don't follow him on other social media platforms, show him some love.  He's pretty easy to find.

OK...I'm the geek that has to ask the technical questions.  Are you using a Sony mirrorless?  I thought I remember you saying that a while ago but I might be confusing you with someone else.  Handheld or mono/tripod?  How high did you have to crank the ISO?  My experience with shooting things on a stage is that there is less light than I would have thought.

Yes, Sony A7III.

All shots handheld.  I turn off the rear display so it doesn't distract other guests.  ISO auto because I typically go shutter priority and when possible use a medium fast shutter speed to avoid motion blur.

The problem comes from the heavy use of tech and specialized lighting or video backdrops that can create issues for medium to high shutter speeds.  So when that lightning is present I have to lower the shutter speed and risk motion blur from performers moving.
