Giantfan13 Posted December 22, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2021 (edited) I posted this on another board and didn't get much of response, so here goes. We are doing an 11 day cruise out of Cape Liberty. Terminal parking there is $25 PD which means almost $300 just to park. Are there other options out there? I have been trying to find alternate parking and the best I can come up with is Newark Airport and Uber over to the terminal. Has anyone had any experience with parking at Cape Liberty other than the terminal? Cheers Len Edited December 22, 2021 by Giantfan13
mjkacmom Posted December 22, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2021 I think it’s because there really aren’t any other options. I think most park at cape liberty.
Baron Barracuda Posted December 22, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2021 Did you search online? Here are two cheaper options. There also used to be a couple of hotels that let you park free for length of cruise if you pay for one night stay. https://www.instapark.co/parking/bayonne-cruise-parking https://parkwayparking.com/property/details/bayonne-cruise-parking
Another_Critic Posted December 22, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2021 (edited) I'm all for saving money, but I just add the cost to my "cruise" fare. And the extra $5 to $10??? per day is well worth the convenience of parking next door to the terminal. Do you buy the drink package, dining package, internet? If yes, parking is just another add on. Rare Oceansaway17 Posted December 22, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 22, 2021 it is safe inside a 5 level parking garage. You take your ticket with you and can't get car out unless you pay at the end. So in a nutshell, it is safe and next to ship. Just add it to the price of cruise. Sometimes cheaper is not safer or easy.

Park and stay is a good option for those who need a hotel the night before, I believe they can be over $200 for park and stay.

We normally stay overnight somewhere along the way anyhow so thought we would try this option. I believe it was around $250 for the hotel with the weeks worth of parking included. Then probably another $40-$50 back and forth to the port in an Uber. I’m not sure it was worth it for me. I like to be the master of my own destiny, walking to my car in the garage rather than waiting around for an Uber. Probably added another 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to our exit from NJ.
mugtech Posted December 23, 2021 #8 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Should look into Transbridge buses from the ABE Airport in Bethlehem, PA. They used to be for seniors $30 roundtrip right to the port. Parking there is $5/night with 3 free nights, so for 12 days it would cost $45. Not sure when those buses will be running again

greeneng Posted December 23, 2021 #10 Share Posted December 23, 2021 We were on the Anthem Dec. 5 sailing and used the adjacent parking. The high points: I drove up to the luggage drop, stopped, opened the trunk and the man took the checked bags. I closed the trunk and moved off. This took less than a minute. I drove about 100 yards further, stopped, off loaded the wife and the carry-on bags to the curb. This took less than two minutes. I drove into the adjacent garage, parked and walked back to the wife. This took less than three minutes. We checked in and boarded in less than ten minutes. On the return, I left all the luggage and the wife at the curb and retrieved the car and was back to her in five minutes. We were loaded and on the road ten minutes after leaving the ship. On the road before 8 AM and (on a Sunday) home in Northeastern Massachusetts at 11:45. Even going across the GW bridge. OK, the weather was great. One more high point: In the winter the car is in the garage and not out in the open to potentially (probably) become covered with snow and ice. I have not found any nearby hotel park and stay programs which featured indoor parking. The low point: Only the cost of $25 per day. No waiting out in the cold for a shuttle in either direction. No cleaning off the vehicle in winter weather. The closest lot referenced above is $15/day, with outside parking and a shuttle which they claim leaves every 20 minutes, but you may have to be in line for that. Convenience or dollars? That is your choice. We cruise the Anthem again on Jan. 15 and very likely will do the pier parking again. Jim

With those you have to confirm that is the total cost - most add on fees/taxes to the listed daily rate. The pier parking includes those.

matt1 Posted December 23, 2021 #15 Share Posted December 23, 2021 I’ll add my hat in the ring with those who favor the convenience and proximity of the parking garage that’s adjacent to the cruise terminal. When disembarking on Dec. 12th I was off the ship at exactly 7am, and driving away from the port at 7:25am. The longest wait (and the longest line) was for the elevator going to the garage’s second floor, and in hindsight, I should have parked on the ground level to make for a quicker exit. As much as I too initially balked at the cost factor, the advantage of this handy and trouble-free option can’t be beat. From this picture I took from North Star you can see just how close it is (red arrow)…

What’s this “pack light” you speak of? 😉 Heck, this last trip I bought enough clothes for an around-the-world cruise LOL. In reality, I had thought about taking the stairs up to the second floor of the garage, but due to an arm injury it wasn’t practical. Maybe next time. 😁

We are doing a 22 night b2b on Anthem in January and our Son has volunteered to drive us to port then we are going to rent a car for the 2 to 2.5 hour drive home. I can use points from my credit card to cover car rental fee. Parking for 22 nights would cost $550. I don't want to waste vacation money on parking when I can use that on the islands or the casino🤩
Giantfan13 Posted December 23, 2021 Author #19 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Thanks for all the wonderful replies and helpful hints. Very much appreciated. I think we can get our son to take off from work and drive us to the terminal, but then that leaves us needing transportation back to Long Island. I did a quick Uber search, and I probably can get a ride for about $100. So, to any that have been to Cape Liberty, can I just exit the terminal and call Uber and they will pick us up right there? Or is there a section designated for ride pickups like that? And, if so, about how far might it be from exiting the terminal? Again thanks to all who replied. Cheers Len

Sunshine3601 Posted December 23, 2021 #23 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Truly a shame the Trans-Bridge Line is not running their service to the cruise port due to covid. they are still running a bus to EWR and then you can uber/taxi from there but was nice and easy when the bus went directly to the cruise terminal. We have 22 nights also on the Anthem I did make a reservation at the Embassy Suites with parking through Trinity Reservations which we used in the past. The cost is $304 for 14 nights parking, an additional $90 for extra nights with car service to & from pier. Now we are rethinking our decision & may just park at pier. We did pier parking in October for 14 nights, got porter when leaving terminal, he took us through a side door in front of waiting area for parking garage, waited with me until my DH came with car, porter loaded the luggage into trunk. It was super easy & non- stressful. Our car was parked in a secure environment. Another consideration In January could be snow & no need to shovel out car.

I had also checked out the embassy suite options and I think it was doubletree that has similar park and stay option. That is our back up plan should we have bad winter weather then we will drive up on Saturday instead of having our Son drive us on Sunday. The porters are great - we have done something similar in the past with porter waiting while DH got the car.
