Rare Jamman54 Posted December 23, 2021 #8 Share Posted December 23, 2021 We're good until 2028. The fees will probably go up several times before we have to renew again! 😖

ldubs Posted December 23, 2021 #11 Share Posted December 23, 2021 My renewal is going to cost $20 more? Is that even news? We have more serious issues to worry about.

Nobody said it was a "serious issue"........but I don't think there is anything wrong with posting the increase in price. It is a discussion about passports/timing/etc and in my opinion, it is part of the topic.

It is a discussion about passports/timing/etc and in my opinion, it is part of the topic. My comment had nothing to do with passports or passport timing. It is about this specific thread which is about a news item regarding "international travel costs are set to rise" because of a $20 passport fee increase. And, it seems a couple of posters seem to think it is a "serious issue" relating to the removal of the gold standard! 😀 Anyway, I don't mean to be critical of sharing the info, though I can see how it would read that way. I was sharing my opinion that it isn't a big deal. IMO, not even a small deal.

You might have a lifetime permanent resident (PR) card, but if you have a Canadian passport which doesn’t expire you should take very good care of it - because it is the only one in the world. Canadian passports are issued for either five or ten years.

Right...the Canadian government certainly agrees with you. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/help-centre/general.html How long is a passport valid for? A passport is valid for different periods of time. It depends on the age of the passport holder: adult (16 years of age or over): five or 10 years, depending on which you choose children (0 to 15 years of age): five years
Rare Lois R Posted December 23, 2021 #17 Share Posted December 23, 2021 I knew there had to be something going on when you said you had one that does not expire.
donaldsc Posted December 24, 2021 #18 Share Posted December 24, 2021 They are going up $20. A passport is good for 10 years. That is $2 per year. DON

DON The last increase was in 2010 - so this 18% increase works out to about 1.8% per year - less than the run up in most other stuff.
