No More Kids in the Suite Lounge During the Evening Hours

I didn't wade through the 5 pages in this thread, but two thoughts:

With drink coupons loaded on your seapass card, you can go anywhere with your kids and get your drinks.

If you go to happy hour for the food, you can also go to the Windjammer, Sorrento's, Park Cafe, Solarium Cafe, etc., and get snacks.

So, I'm puzzled why anyone would want to take their kids into a noisy, crowded lounge when they have the whole ship to choose from??????

Guess you missed "The Suite Lounge" part which is not the diamond lounge and you do not get free drink vouchers to use anywhere else.. Your use of the "Suite Lounge" is ia benefit ncluded in the price you pay for a "suite"

Going by your analogy...the real question is why would "anyone" take themselves into a noisy, crowded lounge when they have the whole ship to choose from?????

Fortunately, the suite lounge is rarely crowded, the tables are spaced nicely and there are usually just normal conversations going on.  No loud music, just a relaxing place to enjoy the beautiful view while drinking a cocktail.  Going into the Windjammer for an evening cocktail would be the last thing on my list of fun things to do,  ha ha.  Part of the reason we paid for a suite!

Really did you take your kids to the Diamond lounge during the old HH

We sure did. She turned two the week after this cruise.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

We never a any issue with her being in there and no one else had any issues. But on the other hand when never went there when it was crowded and we left when she got bored. It all comes down to timing and consideration to others (and her).

Would we have taken her to the DL when 30 Diamond members are drinking as fast and many drinks as they can, before going to dinner? No.

Sorry, I was mentally substituting "pinnacle" for "suite".  My bad.

Children authorized to go into the Concierge/Suite Lounges should be treated the same as adults.  If an adult or child is causing a problem running around, bothering others by being out of control,  etc. (it's not a playground for any age) they should be removed from the lounge.  If they're enjoying their time in the lounges having drinks (age appropriate) and food, there wouldn't be a problem.

Out of control adults or children are not appreciated in any venue.

Once again someone walks in and screams fire on cruise critic. It's typical on here.

I spoke with a Suite Concierge yesterday and asked her about this. She read it to me straight from the "new" Suite Lounge Concierge SOP that they are allowed and must be with their parents/guardian sailing with them.

Excellent, thanks. And thanks too all those who are kid friendly and understand that it takes a village and the only way for kids to learn how to behave is to actually bring them places for learning experiences.

Just off Indy in a Grand Suite and PLENTY of kids were in the lounge at night, and as a matter of fact during breakfast in chops every morning the concierge made sure to invite them when she visited our table every morning.  Also to make you all feel better strolled over to the Diamond lounge a few times, and GUESS what??  Kids in there also.

Royal continues to be a family friendly cruise line, one of the many reasons we choose Royal.

There are definitely quite a lot of cruise line options with no kids allowed which is good for the people who choose to not be near families.

Grecia is definitely a gem!  Indy is lucky to have her

Maybe if all kids were well behaved and didn’t run around and if parents didn’t allow which behavior, kids could go into the Suite Lounge at night. But, on a recent Harmony formal night, an older woman, in a formal dress, was sitting not far from us enjoying a cocktail with her husband, when 2 boys maybe 7 and 20 were running and bumped into her arm and her drink went down the front of her. Not all kids are brats, but not all are well behaved. That poor woman never made it to dinner in her beautiful blue dress. The parents never said a word or apologized for the brats behavior. Kids and teens have places to go, why not adults?

With you 100% on this.  People walking around with those Pinnacle name tags on are FAR more annoying than the kids onboard.

The suite lounge is not a bar and secondly, I personally have been on 100 cruises and I have never seen a 3 year old run unattended through the "passageways" at 2 AM.

Well I guess you are a  lightweight.   I have been on more than 250

The problem is not kids in the lounges, it's unparented/unsupervised kids in the lounge.  We've had kids in the CL and DL and just like anywhere, some parents think nothing of letting their kids run around.  Others use it as an opportunity to teach them how to behave around others.  Our boys, while we never took them to a bar, went to some restaurants and we always talked about "restaurant manners".  We never had any issues.  But, we never took them to really nice, expensive restaurants, although other parents did (because we used babysitters for an adult night out).  All I had to do when we went out to eat was say "restaurant manners" and we had no issues.

Also, I've found that parents think their kids are far cuter than strangers do lol.

I've found that people who haven't been cruising as long as we have don't realize that until about 10 years ago, kids weren't allowed in the lounges at all during happy hour.  I remember when it changed and it pissed off quite a few people.  We heard a few in the lounge complaining loudly to the concierge.

We started cruising with kids shortly after that policy was changed. Man we got a lot of dirty looks at first when we trotted a 3 yr old in there.

When we were kids, my parents loved to go out to dinner at nice restaurants.  They always took my brother & I and we learned (ok it took longer with me!) how to behave there.  Well they would go to a nightclub (think old Hollywood movie type) for dinner & dancing on their anniversary.  We were the only children ever allowed in there.  We had a special table &  waiter who spoiled us rotten.    My father & Nonno were the liquor permittees of an Italian mens club, we practically LIVED there!  Mom used to tell us not to tell our teachers we spent the day playing bunko dice with the guys at the bar!!  Some of my happiest memories.  Being in a bar is not the problem.

This! I have a five year old and I take this really seriously. How am I going to teach him to behave appropriately in a sophisticated environment if I never expose him to it? Seems like 30-45 minutes at a cruise happy hour is a perfect place to do that. We have also had success at multi-course restaurants if we bring some non-disruptive activities with us, like a coloring book. (He behaves well, or we leave.) Maybe I'll see some of you in the suite lounge next week on Allure of the Seas and you can tell me how I'm doing lol!

You may want to check updated info as this thread is from last year.

Liquor laws vary wildly by state in the US and in some states by municipality.

For example, in my state of Texas, kids can be in a bar as long as they are with their parents.  In fact, parents can even buy their children a drink.   I have vague memories from my liquor training eons ago that they couldn't be AT the bar, but they could be IN the bar.  I remember shopping with my parents in liquor stores as a kid.   It was like going into Home Depot, I wasn't interested but my parents went in, so I did too.

The is no US law which prohibits this, each state has its own laws.  In Wisconsin e.g., if the bar owner agrees, parents can allow their children of any age to drink.

I see this is an old thread, i'm not sure what the current policy states. But, i will say i'm a big fan of adults only, especially in a bar, casino or HH setting. There are plenty of areas around the ship for kids, but imo they shouldn't be allowed in adult venues. I realize many kids are very well behaved....but many are not. The problem with these policies is that they're not really enforced, people bring kids in anyway, then the burden falls on the staff to say something and often they'd rather not. So, the other guests just smile and grit our teeth while someones unruly child runs around doing cartwheels.
