P23r23s23 Posted May 31, 2022 #128 Share Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) I was quarantined this morning after self-reporting and testing positive. Moved to a balcony room. This is day 3 of the cruise. I am fully vaccinated and had both boosters. I am diligent about wearing an N95 mask, but the vast majority here do not - not even in elevators where signs mandate it. I tested negative 24 hours before the cruise and suspect the embarkation process is where I contracted it. They had us sitting should er to shoulder for 2 hours waiting for boarding (we were told to show up 90 minutes after our original boarding time but there was still another 2 hour wait when we arrived.). The first 2 days I avoided most public gatherings onboard & asked the stewards to delay clean/entering my room for 3 day intervals. I wiped down the room with alcohol wipes and ran a portable 4-stage air filtration unit 24 hours. Even with all of that, I got COVID. Once I tested positive a nurse called to say I would be quarantined but no info on how long or next steps.. A 4 person team then escorted me to a new room and practically ran away. No instructions at all. I have a letter in the room that says I can order room service and I have — it has been a bit spotty but fine. Have to call because neither the app or TV ordering list me as the guest so they won’t let me order to my new room. There are red bags and clear bags but I have no idea what they are for. I am symptomatic and traveling alone, so I am worried a bit about responsiveness. They have given me cough syrup, losengers and tissues. If anyone was brave enough to drop off a box kleenix soft/lotion tissues I would pay $20!! Hoping the achy/fever/fatigue/cough ends quickly and I test negative in time to do the land portion of this trip. But Princess has said nothing about next steps or whether they will just offload me in Anchorage. Going to give it a day and start asking questions. After all, I have 4 more days of quarantine before the cruise portion ends in Anchorage. It is disappointing that Princess has not enforced better protocols. Sorry to hear that you caught COVID even with all the precautions you took. I agree…It is disappointing with the protocols that Princess will enforce. Seems like all they have done is put a sign outside of elevators asking to wear a mask on elevators and nothing more. I’m trying to find out if the cruise line has a supply of Paxlovid or other COVID-19 anti-viral onboard. Has it been offered to you since you are symptomatic and have they assessed if you would be eligible to receive it?

Thank you for asking if there is a Paxlovid onboard. I understand you’re supposed to take it within 5 days of symptoms. I read on another thread they offered it to a passenger on the Ruby. Take care! The only reason to wear a mask is to protect yourself, fabric masks are least effective. I personally would not wear a cloth mask, have not done so for past 2 years. I have not had covid yet. For me, only medical or N95 are options for safety.

Being the morning of the 3rd day when you tested positive, it is very possible that you were infected at the time of your negative test before the cruise, but not to the extent it could be detected at that time.

I'm sorry you caught this virus despite all your precautions. It seems to be everywhere these days. I hope you get your answers and better treatment. Get well soon. I am less certain than you about when and how you caught it. As @caribill noted, you could have been infected even while you tested the day before the cruise. It takes a few days to trip the antigen tests from negative to positive. Part of the trickiness of this virus is that different people take different amounts of time to show symptoms. Please keep us posted if you're willing and able.

It also depends on your viral load. Higher load….shows up a lot sooner on an antigen. Sitting 2 hours, no social distancing? That scares me.

I'm so sorry you got covid only 3 days in. My bet is you probably got it on the plane. No vaccination or mask requirements to ride a plane. Either way, it still stinks. If I could, I'd bring you some Kleenex, there is nothing worse than a raw nose. I'm packing some for our upcoming cruise just in case. My newest theory is it is being transmitted thru droplets that land in your eyes (my opinion only) as many of the maskers are getting it as well. Anyway, I'm sorry you were one of the chosen on this cruise, it certainly stinks to go from a suite to a standard balcony. Vast majority of masks do nothing to prevent transmission, so there's that....
