Will we feel out of place?

I rarely post but I had to add my voice here.

My first cruise with my beloved was on the Equinox. We selected Celebrity because of the itineraries and fell in love with everything else about the experience. The pace on board is not frenetic but you can absolutely find something to do at nearly any time. There are tons of corners to plunk yourself down with a coffee and a book and watch the world go by. As others have said - the median age may be higher than RCI but I don’t expect you will feel out of place. Sailing Celebrity has reinforced for my wife and I that we appreciate a pace that has room for luxuriating by the pool, napping on an upper deck, indulging in a spa treatment, or dining on deliciousness.

Above all else - the service we have experienced has been superb.

Hi all!

New to cruising but after a glowing review from a colleague we are thinking of a Celebrity Cruise next year on the Beyond.

We are late 20's/early 30's and just wondering if we will feel out of place (? too young) on a cruise.

We like laid back experiences, notreally into crazy partying (I am usually in bed by 11pm haha!) and usually our european holidays are 5* resorts.

We love sightseeing, relaxing around the pool and nice bars for drinking cocktails.

Just hoping that we will fit in and not feel too young!

Welcome, a great age to start and a great line to choose. As fellow Brits we are sure you will have a great time. If you would like a copy of our "Hints and Tips for first time cruisers" please email us:

There were many in their 20's and 30's on our 6 day cruise last week.  Agree with others that the longer the cruise the older the passengers tend to be.  That said, there was an 85 year old woman on our cruise that ran circles around everybody onboard.

She sounds fabulous!

You should feel right in. We just got off of a 10 day Euro cruise, I was surprised as to how many younger ones there were. We're in our 50's, and I enjoyed the variety of ages. If you like pool and drinks, then it should be ok. The ONLY thing, the music by the pool, IMHO! Older stuff, if you don't mind, then great, if you do, take earbuds!

I am curious as to what is considered older stuff now haha!

And as to age…….I may be 76 but I’m still a young man, at least until I have to pick something up from the floor!

Ahhh! A man after my own heart.  🙂  I take after my grandmother who passed at 93, and if you had called her old.....well, it wouldn't have been pretty! lol  I am currently 61, and feel like I'm still in my 40s mentally.  Age is a state of mind.  I will never feel or act old.  Life is just too much fun to get old! 🙃

Don't pay attention to the ads that are seen on tv with all young people on the ships.  There is a mix of ages on the ships.  On some of our cruises, it has been like housing for the elderly.  Those were mainly the  longer cruises.  The shorter the cruise, the more young people.  You will have a good time if going for relaxation.  Don't expect 5* food and amenities.   Celebrity does not have the higher energy vibe as experienced on other lines.  We have enjoyed our cruises on Celebrity.

It's funny that this misconception still exists....that cruises are for old people. We took our very first cruise when we were about your ages. We contacted a travel agent by phone and made an appointment to see her. When we walked in the door, her jaw dropped and she blurted out " Oh my..you're YOUNG!" We went to a different travel agent the next day and booked the RCCL ship The Song of Norway. We did not feel too young on that cruise or any other cruise since. Now, more than 40 years  and 120 + cruises later ( yes..we have lost count), I WISH I had your problem!!!  You need not be concerned. You'll fit right in.

Hello,

Judging by the adverts and promo videos  played on a constant loop on stateroom TVs, there are no passengers at all over about 45 years of age.

Regards,

Cublet

Clearly you haven't been on Eclass...

Those adverts were FULL of people much younger than me on Edge & Apex!

Lol, I'll elaborate. When the band would play by the pool, it was mostly 80's stuff, which I don't mind. The solo singers would sing different stuff, old and new. But when the DJ would play, it would be 50s/60s stuff. So that's what I meant by 'older' stuff, 50s/60s, lol! I don't mind all that, but I'm a metal guy, lol! And some 80s New Wave/Punk/Dance.

Curious which ship--I didn't notice this much on Eclass

Plus cruises longer than 7 days tend to get an older demographic--

Here is a good review on Beyond on You Tube by a couple guys who look to be in their 30s.

BTW, I think their Bad & Ugly portions were pretty nit-picky.

This was only their 2nd sailing so certainly some bugs to work out.

We never had a bad meal on any of the 4 MDRs (and LOVED Eden on both Apex & Edge), but ironically Cosmopolitan was also our least favorite. Their menu/restaurant design seems to be the least inspired.

It DID remind my why I am anxious to sail Beyond...and they have some great rates in early 2023!

Off to book!

I'm echoing everyone else, but I am actually in my late twenties! I love Celebrity and definitely do not feel out of place. My partner is 30 and also enjoys Celebrity. We are much like you, where we do not love partying and go to bed (relatively) early. I really love the higher end feel of Celebrity. Previously, we sailed NCL because that was a highly recommended cruise line for our age group. We did not like it that much. I had a decent time, but it was not the best. The food and cocktails on Celebrity are tough to beat at their price point. It is definitely a luxurious, relaxed feel instead of constant party. With that being said, you can find high energy activities too 🙂

Another thing to consider is while the Beyond is the newest ship (I booked her Bermuda sailing over Halloween), she only has some slight tweaks over the Edge/Apex with the exception of being longer and the new and relatively expensive Le Voyage specialty restaurant.  There’s also the chance Capt Kate could be the captain but last I heard she’ll be on her break when the ship arrives in the US (maybe there’s been an update).  But if you don’t care about the restaurant and don’t like the Beyond’s itinerary,  if find an edge/apex itinerary more attractive, I would recommend booking the edge/apex.

You’ll have a great time.    Celebrity is a bit more “refined” than Royal Caribbean (our other favorite line.    Plenty to do.  Lots of new people to meet of all ages.    We like the more relaxed feel of Celebrity when when we aren’t traveling with family.    RCL is a bit more family fun time oriented, which is nice too.

One suggestion I’d make is to find the message boards specific to your cruise.   Both here and on “the other” social media site.    It’s a great way to meet some folks who will be on your cruise even before you board.   Sometimes little gathering or events are pre planned that make meeting new folks fun.

Enjoy you cruise.   After the first one,  it will become your favorite thing to do.

I love the 50s/60s - it's my favourite. My other half is more rock/punk etc

You are never too young or too old for cruising.  Some lines cater to younger others to older.

A Travel Specialist will be able to share their expertise on a good fit for a cruise line and cruise ship.

We like the 11 night Italy, Turkey & Greek Islands itinerary I think Beyond has one end of June next year which would be perfect for us time wise. Thanks for the tips!

We were told that Celebrity catered more for "middle aged" guests and so we booked with out two teenage girls.. They now see celebrity as their favourite cruise line. A wide age range and perhaps a more laid back atmosphere than some lines..    Go for it!
