Looking at Fred and Saga right now.

I hope you (and others affected) have managed to find a replacement cruise.

We once had a New year river cruise cancelled just over a week before it was due,

so I know how you all must be feeling. Hope you have a happy outcome ☺️

To be clear, I am not defending the way that P&O have handled the situation, or the dismal level of compensation.

But some posters were insinuating that the issue was due to factors within P&O 's control, which is not the case.

To be clear myself, I'm not saying P&O are responsible for the build of the ship but they are responsible for the communication to their customers (guests).

There are an awful lot of things P&O are not responsible for that are not actually provided by them.  There are mentions throughout the t&cs about third party providers and unfortunately nothing I'd guaranteed.  Port buses etc spring to mind - very difficult when the providers go on strike as they did in France on one of my cruises this year.

Basically all you can "blame" P&O for are the physical ship and crew.

Exactly, the spa, shops, casino, photographers all spring to mind.

A massive 10% FCC.  Based on what.  The price we originally paid or the newly discounted fare although we are still waiting for that credit.

Should be 10% on what your paid.

Whilst the fcc is totally rubbish and i feel for everyone affected, i do believe that apart from a full refund anything extra is a bonus as the company is not by law mandated to give further compensation.

Just playing devils advocate.  I firmly believe more compensation should be given, esp as it effects, flights, hotels, car parking, taxis booked etc. Also the cost or rebooking a cruise.

Most builds slip and very few construction jobs are delivered on time. But bad press for P&O and like i said i am sorry for those affected and hope their can get more compensation.

Just been told by agent 10% of recently discounted price.  Also could have started my annual insurance policy later - another hidden cost.

That is adding insult to injury !

Do P&O not have a PR team ? They really seem to be going out of their way to alienate customers.

Just been offered a like for like cabin on the 23rd December Christmas cruise, same itinerary, same 14 days, just £986 extra, plus Christmas Day in the Bay of Biscay. Decided no thanks.

Please tell me that you are joking that P&O want to charge you extra for making you change plans with such little notice.

I think this fits my theory why the Christmas cruise was withdrawn from sale, they were holding a number of cabins for people from the cancelled maiden cruise. Although I'm feel very sorry for those who have had their holidays spoiled, I hope very few take up this offer leaving P&O with empty cabins and whilst not losing money they will not make as much.

Hearing this behaviour by P&O has made me decide no more cruises with them, however cheap. They have lost all faith I had in them. I really wish I was not sailing with then at Christmas now.

The P&O website still shows 23rd as sold out.  Assumedly any cabins are via travel agent.  That being the case who sets the prices, assumedly P&O?

It was temporarily withdrawn from sale which is why it shows sold out. Yes it was my ta that is contacting P&O and P&O are not budging on price. To further add insult, even though that higher price is a select fare, you can’t choose your cabin. P&O will allocate them which was the final straw to me as my original cabin was chosen to be near lifts

Disgraceful behaviour by P&O.  Leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.  I hope you can sort one of the Saga or Fred ones you were looking into, at least they'll hopefully be a bit more respectful.

Oh, a mere £986 extra. How kind of them to offer...🙄

P&O making rules up to suit themselves again.

If you try to upgrade an already booked cabin because, due to a special offer, a balcony is only slightly more expensive than the inside you booked on release, and it comes with a considerable amount of extra obc, you can't. You have to pay the difference in price at the time you booked. Unfair of them not to follow that rule in compensating their customers.

Feel for those who have lost their holiday.

I think they’ve long since learned the lesson that good customer service costs money, and that if they follow the Ryanair approach, and position the brand correctly, they’ll still get plenty of repeat business without it, or its cost.

Whatever we might think about that, I’m sure they know their business better than we do, and that they know exactly what they’re doing.

They do seem to be mimicking some of the Ryanair approach for charging for something that was once free. What next charging for priority boarding and disembarkation, a charge for every piece of luggage you take onboard.

What I know is, I’m not booking with P&O again.

I actually wouldn’t mind paying for priority boarding!

Are you sure agent is telling the truth. As this doesn't fit with usual P&O policy
