My 2-cents worth on Beyond, October 26th repositioning

LOVED the cruise/ship & entertainment but noticed the following:

  • Many "cocktails" were not prepared well. My standard of excellence is the Cosmopolitan Martini and we received more "Blood-Red" variants of it than I care to list.
  • Since when does any ship-based "Steak House" not feature a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail on the menu as an appetizer?
  • A large cabana was on my bucket list. Tried it, and my recommendation is for you to save your money 😞. Overpromising & under delivering is not cool... asking the Cabana attendant for beer(s) and being told to visit the bar was a letdown. He was too busy fawning over & servicing a large party of 8~10 guests in one cabana (4-guest max!) to pay us any mind.
  • Tried all four of the MDR's which were just beautiful BUT they were still only MDR's.... nothing special food wise.

I can relate to the Cosmo comment. 😂

There have been many cruises where I start out my quest for the perfect Cosmo, leaving many drinks behind after one sip and off to another bar.

Often I the right bar and crew who will make it as it should be.

I ordered a Cosmo at the casino bar during my Elite HH.  Tasted terrible watered down made with a poor quality vodka.  Bartender said thats all they had. I left it went to martini bar and was made with absolut vodka some Cointreau and cranberry with a twist of orange.

That is an old menu.

Was also on the Oct 26 sailing.

Fine Cut did in fact NOT have shrimp cocktail on the menu.

But I asked and they provided !!!

People should be aware that on the Beyond the SAME dining venues that are on the previous two E-Class ships may have different food choices and one shouldn't ASSUME that the muneus are the same across the fleet.

I did just that and I was highly embarrassed at what I did. We dined at Cyprus Restaurant and for dessert without looking closely at the menu I asked to order the special Greek Yogurt with Honey dessert that's on the Cyprus Exclusives section on both the Edge and Apex. The assistant waiter took the order and a few minutes later she came back and tried to clarify what I wanted for dessert.  I repeated that I wanted the special dessert of Greek Yogurt and honey. She walked away and a few minutes later the Main Waiter came over and asked me that the Assistant Waiter is new in her position and since English isn't her first language she was confused at what I wanted for dessert. I tried to explain to the waiter and asked him what exactly is the Cyprus exclusive dessert. He went on to describe it and it WASN'T Greek yogurt with honey, it was some sort of pastry. One of the Maitre 's heard the exchange and came over to explain that the menus on the Beyond are NOT the same as the Edge or Apex. I apologised profusely to all concerned. I did get the special pastry and it was very good!

Have always been able to order a shrimp cocktail.  I ask a few times each cruise for one with extra lemons and 10 shrimp.  Promptly delivered.  Occasionally in 3 dishes.  Lol.

Need to be flexible today

I also love Creme Brule with a drizzle of dark chocolate sauce.  I explain the first time.   After that the chocolate sauce appears magically without asking.

I had the same experience at the martini bar on the Apex.  Very red ( and too sweet) cosmos.  Not the typical pale pink.  Since I make these at home, I just had my other favorites ( sunset martini and the b,ie martini) and they were fine.

Have had some great bartenders.  I love a French Martini.  At some bars, I was told Chambord was out of stock!  You cannot make a decent French Martini without Chambord.  So sometimes either a bar or bartender isn't great.  Did find some good bars however.  Especially in suite lounge.

Which day did you have a cabana?  There were so many rainy days on our cruise.

Yes, definitely a cosmo problem. The only bartender who made it to my taste was Ari, at the Martini Bar.

There is a difference between the Cosmos made for the HH menu and  the premium Cosmo in the Martini Bar.   Even if you have the Premium Bev Pack a Cosmo at any bar other than the Martini Bar will be like the one on the HH menu.    I was told that the Martini Bar is the only bar that  can make the Premium Cosmo as it is exclusive to that bar and they  have the ingredients

That must be true as casino bar used a vodka that was in a plastic bottle not a good brand I assume but at martini bar it was absolut and Cointreau lime juice cranberry finished with a twist of orange. I actually thought that was a nice touch considering I didn't have a package just my Elite HH.

The Martini bar uses Grey Goose Cranberry Vodka  and Cointreau as the spirits for their premium menu Cosmo.

When the HH use to be held in the Sky Lounge they would have pitchers of some of the HH  drinks made up.   They also do the same for the drinks that they served at the Captain Club Reception.  Saves time as it would be a nightmare trying to make those drinks individually.

Did you see that it was vodka in a plastic bottle or was it Cosmos made up for HH?

I saw the bartender make the HH Cosmo in what I thought was a plastic bottle he showed it to me quickly but I did not really pay close attention but it definitely was not pre made it was very weak so I left it and went to martini bar. I understand I'm not entitled to GG and the absolut is a good brand. I use both at home.

She was onboard the christening cruise and specifically asked them and was told it was not permanent.

As of today it is still in effect. Per postings from those on board. I'll know first hand in Feb.
