So far. This thing is awesome. Again. Not super hot but it really does make the room feel bigger. The tech on this ship is also awesome. Control everything from your phone. Wonderful.

Looks very uncomfortable. Couldn't see us relaxing on those chairs with a book for 10 minutes let alone the hours we spend on our traditional balcony. Plus if we did the room would very hot or cold unless we kept the window shut which somewhat defeats the object.

Great for passengers who like the idea of a balcony but don't actually use it. We will be sticking to S class.

Now that's a real veranda.

Real veranda but terrible chairs. The designer and the Directors at X who approved the chairs should try sitting on them for a couple of hours. Actually forget "should" make it "must" then the chairs would never have been approved..

Why would the AC cutoff when the bi-fold doors are closed if the window is also closed?

With the window closed, the A/C still works. That is what I'm learning from reading this thread. It is when the window is open that the A/C cuts off. I do not like this design at all.

Thank you for posting a picture. It is a lovely view. To me, it is an ocean view cabin with a very large window that opens. I would not call this a veranda. To me, veranda is just a classier name for a balcony. This is not a balcony in any sense of the word. I think Celebrity has made the name of this type of accommodation confusing.

Even if they did sit in them most likely get approved as they purchased for all their new ships in fleet at a bargain price. I don't know firsthand as I've never actually had an IV cabin but they appear to be very cheaply made in which case they won't last.

That’s what I had heard as well as this discussion has been on many threads since the IV cabin was originally introduced on the Edge.

As a side note, the same thing happens on an Edge sky suite if you leave the sliding glass door open when you’re sitting out on the balcony. However, as we learned on a B3B back in Aug 2021, you can’t get internet service on the balcony if the sliding glass door is closed. So I’d leave it cracked open 3-4” to get internet service until it got too warm in the cabin for my DW as we were in the Caribbean. Then we closed it until the cabin cooled down. And started the process again. 😂

The chairs aren't bad for sitting to drink a quick cup of coffee or similar. We ended up in a different SV with two loungers and two chairs, and it was bliss.

We agree with you, but don't give up on Edge class - if you book early, you can snag a Sunset Veranda, which is what someone posted here as being "awesomer" - we love the Sunset Verandas on Edge Class - well, on all classes, but especially on Edge Class because the IV is not something that is for us as we like you, make very active use of a "real" balcony.

YES, I think it's definitely worth noting that when booked in a Sky Suite on the Edge Class ships, same thing happens with the AirCon that folks have mentioned about the infinite verandas - if balcony door is open, nearly instantly, the AirCon turns off.  We were very disappointed about that.......loved our suite, loved the Retreat, loved our "real" balcony but were unable to leave the balcony door open if we also wanted the AirCon on.  I'm one of those sleepers that absolutely loves to leave the balcony open a smidge at night to hear the waves - so lulling! - but just can't do it on Edge Class in an IV or suite.

We have sailed with X many times, but never on E class. We are booked on our first E class cruise on an IV cabin on the Edge  in Feb. Before booking I read many reviews and threads about how many people dislike the IV.  Despite that we booked one as we wanted to try it out for ourselves.

The penny dropped for me in seeing the pictures posted in this thread (better late than never lol!).   In an IV you can't be outside unless you stick your head out the window...which you need to be standing up to do.  In a standard veranda you can be sitting in a chair and be fully outside.  Do I have that right?  If so it sounds like the IV's are actually a sunroom and not a veranda.

I probably sound like a broken record at this point…

Comes down this question?  In the past have you spent long periods of time sitting on your traditional balcony?  If yes, you’ll most likely hate IVs and if no, you’ll most likely love them due to the extra space

You have that right. It's not a veranda.

I don't consider that being outside. That's still being inside with your head stuck out the window. You would be outside, however, if you climbed out that window, though I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes I agree "outside" is stretching it lol!  Perhaps "feeling the wind in your hair"  would be a better way of putting it.  On IV you need to stick your head out the window. Standard veranda sitting on the veranda will do it.  TBH not sure I am going to like it, however DH thinks he will.  We will find out soon enough!

If you're on the fence, trying it out is the only way you'll know for sure. Given the way I cruise, I know it's not a good option for me.

Yes, that's precisely correct, you have it exactly right.

Yes, people want to make this such an issue ONLY because Celebrity tried to confuse things. It's an oceanview cabin with a window that opens. PERIOD. You are NEVER, EVER outside, you are always inside because you never leave your cabin, you're just opening a window. The bifold doors are literally window dressing - there to close off space inside your cabin to make a pretend outdoor space. It's literally no different than opening the window in your home bedroom, putting a chair in front of it, and sitting there. It's exactly the same thing.

Well, except I don't have an ocean outside my bedroom window. 😊

You need to move!,lol

On another note, I see you were on the Carnival Pride in May. We boarded on May 19th for 32 days. Were we sailing together at some point?

Yes, we also boarded May 19 on a casino comp, but only sailed one leg. Pride has some great summer itineraries.

This is the SV I had on my recent cruise on the Equinox which also happened to be a concierge cabin.  Deck 10 right in the middle so balcony was bigger than the other SV"s. It was a bargain as I upgraded from a regular obstructed on 6 to the CC SV.  Pic doesn't do it justice.  Fabulous views.
