Rare roscoe39 Posted February 8, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2023 I have to report something I suspect that will scandalise some and I am surprised that it has not been picked up by anyone before. For years I have walked the promonade deck in the "clockwise" tradition - a personal foible that I am probably best known for....it seems some old timers consider the correct direction to be Anticlockwise..... a fact, I have always disputed.. But .there seems to be a change in policy on board and now the signs point now in the correct direction to some ....... clockwise Photos on my blog butarewethereyet.blogspot.com Not that I am stirring the pot .......lol....... but thank you you're welcome. 2

Wonky Posted February 8, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2023 So I assume one jogs in the opposite direction? Nothing worse than trying to say excuse me to a thousand people, whilst at the same time trying not to frighten them!

Even more sensible still would be not to jog at all. No good can come of it. 😀 2
Summergee Posted February 9, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2023 If everyone walks the same way round then you never meet other people. You can't have a conversation with somebody's back.
majortom10 Posted February 9, 2023 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2023 Does it really matter which way you walk around promenade deck. Who really cares.

The Wrong Way Police will frown at you!! 😄 I did it once, by mistake obviously being a law abiding passenger 👍. Got some filthy looks so followed the herd after that!

At sea it's port to port, i.e. keep right.

On bouncy sea days, I get my extra steps in by lurching side to side, handrail to handrail. I can double the steps normally taken for a straight line yomp. 😄
alc13 Posted February 9, 2023 #14 Share Posted February 9, 2023 Excuse me for being dogmatic, and apologies to @roscoe39, but the correct direction is anti-clockwise! First the relaxing of the dress code, now this.

Rare Windsurfboy Posted February 9, 2023 #16 Share Posted February 9, 2023 I don't jog , but walk fast , always go in opposite direction so people can see me . If you are going in same direction, you have people dawdling along three abreast oblivious to any one behind, and seemingly deaf to a polite excuse me
MCC retired Posted February 9, 2023 #17 Share Posted February 9, 2023 Glad it is finally being addressed no matter what direction is now official . But some one will be swimming upstream to dodge .

Perhaps in the northern hemisphere but the OP is from New Zealand and rotation is different down there.... witness the flushing water in a toilet bowl.
Ranchi Posted February 9, 2023 #23 Share Posted February 9, 2023 Clockwise or anti clockwise? I guess it depends if you are face up or face down (don’t ask!) on the deck. Widdershins or deosil causes similar controversy wrt porridge!
Rare D&N Posted February 9, 2023 #24 Share Posted February 9, 2023 As a dancer I would go anti-clockwise. Direction on an athletics track, skating rink etc. would be anti-clockwise.

I actually have no idea why they have changed it, but there seems to be much confusion for the walkers now as some traditionalists are scandalised and others are defiant. I.....on the other hand am mildly amused. It's fun to be right...... as Judge Judy says, I've only ever been wrong once and it was in 1967.
