mafig Posted November 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2023 Someone on our roll call mentioned that their news stations are saying that there may be a space problem at Ft. Everglades for parking. This certainly doesn't help us. We live on the west coast and are driving over and always park at the port. Our local news stations have not talked about florida cruise parking at all (only Ft. Myers airport). Now I'm worried. Rotterdam leaves on Friday. Suggestions? mafig Posted November 22, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted November 22, 2023 Our cruise leaves this Friday (Nov. 24). Someone on our roll call has stated that the TV stations in Ft. Lauderdale are cautioning people that parking at the port parking lots will be at a premium because of the holiday. We're driving over from the west coast. Haven't heard anything about this until today (our local TV station is just talking about parking in Ft. Myers airport. Locals? What should we do? Rare Mary229 Posted November 22, 2023 #4 Share Posted November 22, 2023 As @crystalspin said but there are many fee parking areas in Fort Lauderdale where you can make a reservation and quite a few hotels too offer a package
mafig Posted November 22, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted November 22, 2023 (edited) Thanks but.... Many of those parking facilities (like Park N Go) are no longer taking reservations because they are full. We prefer to park at the port and will probably try to time getting there at about the time most people are getting off Rotterdam and following them to their car (like we've seen people do in parking lots at Christmas-time.) Do the hotels let you park there if you are not a guest? Edited November 22, 2023 by mafig

Usually, the hotel parking is part of a package where you stay a night and either get parking free for xx days or they charge you a reduced fee per day. Cruise Suzy Posted November 22, 2023 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2023 @mafig Have you tried park by the ports? You park at the north end of the parking lot for the casino and they shuttle you.
KAKcruiser Posted November 22, 2023 #11 Share Posted November 22, 2023 There are many times that 5 or 6 ships are in port at the same time. I wouldn't think this would be any different and you should probably be able to park. And, as you say, those same ships will be disembarking passengers so their spots will be available. KAKcruiser Posted November 22, 2023 #12 Share Posted November 22, 2023 Oops. Just realized that Rotterdam is the only ship in port that day. Still, you should probably be okay. There is almost always room on the top deck of the parking garage.

Rare mawvkysc Posted November 22, 2023 #14 Share Posted November 22, 2023 I saw this reported on the La Lido Loca YouTube channel. Apparently the host has a cruise this weekend and got a notice from the cruisline warning him of this. Where on the West Coast are you OP? This spring we are taking Amtrak from Tampa to Fort Lauderdale (the day before) then will Uber in the morning from our hotel.

hrhdhd Posted November 22, 2023 #17 Share Posted November 22, 2023 I found this: https://www.cruisehive.com/florida-homeport-warns-of-traffic-delays-for-holiday-cruises/116174 I'm not sure that the port itself will be affected so much as there will be additional traffic due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. I don't see why parking will be any more limited than normal. The article mentions days (not yours) with five and six ships in, which is less than the 8 or 9 we've seen on occasion. And we've never had an issue parking.
FOPMan Posted November 22, 2023 #18 Share Posted November 22, 2023 Park n Go may already be full (it serves both the airport and cruise port). Rodeway Inn on SR 84 may have space- they have coupons out there that will take some $ offf.
Rare tupper10 Posted November 22, 2023 #19 Share Posted November 22, 2023 In our local paper they said that the FLL airport lot is full but nothing about the cruise port lot. I would be prepared for major traffic in the area as our roads have been a mess as usual.

EatonDoolittle Posted November 23, 2023 #22 Share Posted November 23, 2023 Spots will free up in the port parking garage as people depart the ship on Friday. Just plan to arrive early to grab one. Airport parking will remain full no doubt until Sunday.
Rare POA1 Posted November 23, 2023 #23 Share Posted November 23, 2023 We've only been in Fort Lauderdale since 2008, but I've never seen the port run out of parking. Normal "load" is 5 or 6 ships. Full capacity is 8.

Until now.....someone on our roll call posted that all the TV channels are cautioning about lack of parking. And I believe the full capacity has already taken the parking spots. My cruise on Rotterdam is the only one of two coming back into the port on Friday.
Corby114 Posted November 23, 2023 #25 Share Posted November 23, 2023 The casino on Dania Beach Blvd in Dania Beach, Florida now has a long term parking lot on their property that has a shuttle service over to Port Everglades. It's a short ten minute ride over to Port Everglades.
