If your password at RCI has suddenly stopped working…

Is anyone else having trouble with the android version of the app since this latest update?

The app on my tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 4) told me I needed to update a couple of weeks ago.  Went to the Play Store, only choice was to uninstall.  Still not available for that device (when I go to the Play Store via computer, only device I can install on is my phone).

Regarding the password fun, because of what I read here, I tried the app, no good on the password.  Try on the computer, no good on the password.  Change password to the exact same one (already had a capital, a number, and eight characters), and all is good.  Can log in to web and app.

Well this is interesting. Since my old password had all the requirements I tried it as my "new" password and it was accepted.
Go figure.... RCI IT at its best.

I’ve been seeing reports on social media that this is happening.  Just happened to me, and when I tried to reset, my app would lock up when I entered the new password.

In case this happens to anyone else, I found that going into the site via browser instead of app worked best.  I was able to change password and the website didn’t lock up, like my app.  I was then able to log into the app.

My Celebrity account had same issue.  Same resolution worked best. 🙂

Gotta love RCI IT. 🙄

Happened to me as well on Celebrity website.

What is this I hear them giving 100 Crown and Anchor points to make up to those who had to change passwords?😉😉😉

thanks to the testimonials here, all I did was re-enter my current password and I have access again to the website and app. I did NOT want to come up with another password that I had to keep track of!

@barbeyg Barb, thanks for starting this thread. Yesterday, both my phone app (android) and laptop requested new passwords.  I ignored it, then when I checked a few hours later, both worked fine.  NOW, I'm prompted to sign in with email and password for my account, which I did! It just doesn't accept my info and does not ask me to change passwords.

My pleasure. 🙂

Someone mentioned here that they had to update because the “password formula” changed for them.  I was thinking that possibly they are trying to beef the formula up.  You would think if that was the case, they would just send a blast email, or even a line at the top of the app. Sure would be easier on everyone.

It makes too much sense. 🤣

I changed the password on my laptop and now phone and laptop work.

I hope we'll find out what happened and why.

Excellent point - Royal owes everyone an explanation - not for the petty inconvenience but as a fundamental cybersecurity protocol.

Over the years with Royal and Celebrity I’ve come to regard log-in failures as SOP, even using a reliable PW manager - they just quit working.

If merely the latest instance of RCI’s IT follies, than no big deal, but for our personal security we need to hear that officially.

Last fall many of us were notified of the massive MGM data breach.  “The hackers were able to access their (OUR) personal information, including names, contact information, gender, date of birth, and driver’s license, passport, and even Social Security numbers, from “some customers” before March 2019”. 142 million “customer” files were compromised.

Conceptually it’s easy to understand how that might happen - except that I’ve never stayed at a MGM property or gambled at one of their casinos.  MGM does have cross marketing arrangements with many entities that I do deal with - so I have to assume that is likely how my data was obtained and subsequently compromised.  Hacks of this nature are increasing exponentially.

My first thought was that if any hacker wants to know my booking history, have at it, but hardly worth the effort.  Thinking it through, while my cruise addiction would be of little value, the data I enter when I do my pre-boarding check in is a hackers goldmine.

Royal has a great deal on their plate at the moment but we can only hope that this disruption came because they were now prioritizing our data security, and not because the running joke of RCI IT is no longer a laughing matter.  They can craft and distribute an appropriate statement in 10 minutes - that would be the responsible course of action.

You would think if RCI did this to benefit us in some way that they most certainly would have let us know that it was coming.

Since Larry, Moe and Curley obviously work for them, maybe they forgot. 🙃 Or never thought it was important in the first place.

LOL....though the so called "exciting new and improved" announcements.....have not had a great  track record on much of anything.  (Though two things that were new and improved that I loved was when they came out with the drink vouchers, and the new muster drill set up).

Everything else....eh...IMHO pretty much just cost cutting/exciting for them. 😉

Very frustrating.   Every single time I go on the site using my computer, I have to change my PW  as it never accepts the previous one that I had changed a day before?

I just tried my app as I had not signed out and it works.  What is going on?

Had no issues simply changing my password (by one upping number only) with online website.  Waited until now to check the app (since there was so many issues reported).

Used the new password I had entered on the website.  The app then told me I had to do a mandatory update, which I did.

No issues at all now with either app or website.  Guess I got lucky.  😬

No issues with app or website (laptop) with the new password for me also. Both RC and Celebrity.

Changed my password BUT now I am being forced to buy a new phone.  I still have an Iphone 8 (I know I KNOW - but I love my phone).  Now their app requires you to have ios version 17.  Guess what?  8 does not support 17 - my version is 16.7.7.  Since we cruise in a month and I need the app, I'm forced to buy a phone.  I don't know who I'm mad at the most - Apple or Royal.  Naturally, my IT husband is snickering since he hates me being "so behind."  Really irritated that I am backed into a corner on this.  Grrrr.
