March 2024 we did a 11 Day Enchanted cruise. Not our first Princess cruise. We were never bored on the Enchanted. We are also RC and Celebrity cruisers. We like the similarities and differences between Celebrity, RC and Princess.

What about it bored you?

We are currently on our first Princess on the Regal and although some of the activities are not our cup of tea, we definitely aren't bored and always feel we have options for evening entertainment.

#1) the crew and staff!!!
#2) they cruise from our home port

#3) nonstop activities, events or entertainment or places for you can go for nothing but quiet and relaxation

#4) the medallion and app with deliveries throughout the ship

#5) their food and drink

#6) their all inclusive fare options

#7) their beds

I could probably go on and on ..

The one thing I don’t like is that there is smoking in the casino!  Yuk!

It's really subjective isn't it? My wife and I like it because in general it's a calmer atmosphere than a Carnival cruise. Those can be fun too, but not always what we're looking for. We're towards the bottom of the traditional Princess demographic I'd wager as we're in our mid-30s, but we enjoy the quieter environment on Princess than a more family oriented cruise line offers.

If you've already made up your mind, why ask?

Why WE like Princess:

Prices are decent.  Atmosphere is comfortable and calm.  Laundromat on every deck, which we love.  Shows are fine (we cruised Celebrity ONCE, and the shows were dreadful!)  Food is good.  Not many kids.  Cruise ports are convenient.  Ships are clean.  We sleep well -- must be the mattresses.  There is plenty to do, if you want to take advantage of those activities.

There are things we don't like, such as TMT -- too much technology, but I expect all cruise lines have gone there.  Staff members aren't as friendly and efficient as they used to be, possibly due to the tipping policy.  ESL customer service is grueling.

Princess does offer some interesting itineraries.  Love the IC.  Enjoy the very reasonably priced packages.  Really like their Specialty Restaurants, which are less expensive than the other lines.

Cruise lines try to accomodate many different tastes. We just disembarked the Enchanted on a Caribbean itinerary this month and can agree that this sailing, we wanted for more things of interest. A Panama Canal or Alaskan itinerary with enrichment lectures, history and nature talks and excursions would be more to our tastes. Those on this past cruise who like to max out their drinks allowance and get sunburned seemed to be the happiest.  It's which itinerary you choose, is my point.

So I would ask you back, what do you want a cruise to be?

Why do we like Princess? One-and-done with RCI. My takeaway was that nobody had the authority to do anything about anything, but had to acceed to some higher authority for approval and maybe something got done maybe not. On Princess, if you have a concern, just about anyone will make it their business to address it even in some small way.

Comparing to Celebrity, on both cruises with them, disembarkation was a total mess, like they had to reinvent the wheel. This above all is why we don't sail X anymore. I hope for everyone concerned this has improved. Disembarkation on Princess has always been a well oiled machine. Must say though, food is better on X.

Number one reason we sail Princess. Los Angeles is their main port and we're close. From Naples, you've got Tampa, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, you've got options we don't.

I used to love Princess, but the old one is gone and the new Princess is not the class operation it used to be.  Old-timers know what I mean.

First, if it matters, we’re retired and in our early 70s and only book cabins (Reserve Collection mini-suites and higher) that allow us to dine in the Reserve Collection dining room. We also enjoy going on unique 3-5 week itineraries that catch our eye. It’s also amazing how the PCL demographic changes on a longer 12+ day cruise when compared to their shorter 5-7 day cruises, which we usually try to avoid now. The one exception was our recent 22-day Alaska B3B on the Grand Princess.

For us we enjoy going to their production shows, game shows, and comedy shows as well as the professional lectures offered on most sea days. The key for us to maximize our onboard experience is to plot out our next day’s adventures on the Patter we receive the previous evening in the cabin.

We also enjoy cruising with Celebrity, NCL, and HAL IF they offer a unique itinerary that catches our eye. For example, HAL offers a pretty cool 28-day Alaska cruise while NCL cruises to Longyearbyen, to name a few unique ones. In the case of PCL, they offer Solar Eclipse, Northern Lights, and South America cruises that include 4 days cruising around the Antarctica Peninsula, along with a 4-week Tahiti/Hawaii cruise RT out of LA, to name a few. Unfortunately, Celebrity is pretty weak in this area, except for their transoceanic ones. See signature area below.

But we’re also pretty much done with cruises to the Caribbean, which we did quite extensively for 70+ days with Celebrity the first year after cruising first started back up.

It would help others if OP gave a few more details.  Caribbean voyages would not be my first choice on any cruise ship.  What were you expecting that you didn't research about first?

I guess you mean, what was the OP expecting ...?

You're right.  Over-research everything if at all possible.

We tend to book Princess because it meets our needs. Wish they had more northeast  cruises but still tend to check Princess before other lines. I like the calm older ships though truth be told Regal was my favorite nudging out Ruby.  Always enjoy our cruises but find Princess more geared to our comfort zone.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your Princess cruise.  I assume you won't stick around to read this.

For me, and the rest of you, here are the reasons why I like Princess and have two cruises booked with them:

  • They had 80s themed cruises that were a lot of fun.  There's always a chance they could bring them back. 🙏
  • The medallions and the app, when they work, do some neat things
  • Three of the best cabin stewards I've had on cruise ships were on Princess
  • They have some good itineraries that are worth cruising
  • The price is right (sometimes)

I love the themed cruises and always try to book them when I notice them pop up onto the schedule.  Last year, we did a side by side sailing where we started off the the Celebrity Solstice and on disembarkation day, we walked across the lot there in San Pedro and embarked onto the 80’s cruise on the Discovery, as did a small group of fellow passengers.
Lo and behold, we found Celebrity to be just pretty boring overall.  We also had terrible (I would call it nonexistent) WiFi and their processes for embarkation in LA and immigration in San Diego were just awful!  There were highlights to the cruise but not enough to get me to go back again and we are nearly at the elite plus status on them.  Perhaps if they cruised in and out of San Francisco, I may consider it.
As we embarked on the Discovery and sat down at Bellini’s for a welcome onboard cocktail, we both commented on how we felt like we were at home!

I grew up watching the original Love Boat tv series in the 70’s, then my parents started cruising with them pretty much exclusively. Then took my first Princess cruise in 2007.

While I’ve cruised other lines more than once, Princess just feels different for me, kinda like “home”.

Princess will always be my first choice and really wanted to spend a milestone birthday with them in September, the dates and itinerary just didn’t work out.

For me, there’s just so many reasons but others have covered them so well and those are my reasons too.

Many, many good and also bittersweet memories for me on Princess ships.

Actually I think some things are even better. Medallions rather than cruise cards, the ability to find where friends are on board, unlimited WiFi. I could go on and on. We have been sailing Princess since 1990 and love the Grand class ships

Princess fits us pretty well. I've never been bored. There are usually more activities going on than I have time to do because they overlap. Our last Celebrity cruise was disappointed in both food and service. Our last Holland America cruise was pretty good, but I missed the activity level of Princess. They did not have as many choices.
