mitchtech Posted July 2 #1 Share Posted July 2 Hi Was wondering if anyone who was recently on the Breakaway, if there was smoked salmon/lox on the breakfast buffet Thanks!
JayS Posted July 2 #2 Share Posted July 2 I can't say about the Breakaway, but there was NONE on the Joy in May. I asked the head chef. "The only lox was in the MRD.

floinnc Posted July 2 #5 Share Posted July 2 Not at the buffet in June on the Jade. We had breakfast twice in the MDR and it was there. Bagel, lox and cream cheese platter.

The bagels are small, like the frozen Lenders.

Excellent point !! More than that, the smoked salmon serving size was scaled down onboard the Prima recently, petite and came in a small plate ... Ended up placing doubled order of bagel & lox on subsequent days, with just enough cream cheese spread on top of a very, barely "lightly toasted" bagel. Reminded us of the old "Cooking Light" and eating light menu NCL years. Of course, no more hash browns (itself, not a "deal breaker" - first world problem ...) Tried to write in for breakfast room service delivery, asking for smoked salmon; and, on a different day, cookies with the morning delivery with the "nominal" fee - "sorry, sir ... it was not available from the gallery" being the apologetic words spoken when our order arrived. The way things were, then ... Used to be in the garden cafe as part of the colorful breakfast buffet presentation, gone for a while but as recent as 2022, asked nicely & they have them "hidden" & stored in one of the refrigerated compartment behind and below the displays. Recently ... "Memories" How long will NCL stock them for MDR sit-down breakfast only ... is anyone's "guess" Edited July 2 by mking8288
Rare laudergayle Posted July 2 #8 Share Posted July 2 Recently on the Jewel. No smoked salmon in buffet. Recommend going to MDR for breakfast. Order two servings of bagel with cream cheese and lox. A really nice presentation and serving.
Rare PATRLR Posted July 2 #9 Share Posted July 2 When I read the OP, I was prepared to respond and say it was still in the buffet. After seeing all the "not in buffet" posts I realize It was RCCL last summer that I was getting it in the buffet, not NCL in December. Sigh. I'll be on Princess in 2 weeks, I wonder if they'll have it. 1
Rare BirdTravels Posted July 3 #10 Share Posted July 3 Only available in the MDR and on the cold buffet in the Haven.

Does NCL not put a good ole NY schmear on their bagels? Did you do that yourself? I'm so confused by what I'm really hoping is just unmelted butter. I'm all for it if that's your preferred amount. Lol…it’s hubby’s so I’m not certain. There is cream cheese on the side. I looked at another day’s picture and it appears that is a poor excuse for a schmear…which may be why he asked for cream cheese on the side. 1

complawyer Posted July 3 #16 Share Posted July 3 if you book a suite, breakfast is always in moderno. they have a small buffet set aside, as well as the regular menu. the buffet has lox, cream , tomato and onions available. the waiter can bring you an entire bagel, toasted or otherwise. OP is on the Breakaway. All suites on the Breakaway are Haven suites, so if the OP is in a suite breakfast will be in the Haven restaurant, not Moderno. Breakfast set up will be similar in either case. Breakfast in Moderno is for suites on older ships built prior to Epic that don't have a Haven restaurant and perhaps (unsure about this not having cruised on them) for non-Haven suites on the newest ships, Joy, Prima and Viva. Yes, that should be real cream cheese. At least that is the way it was served to me last year when I asked for both halves of the bagel. You can ask for butter if that is what you want.
complawyer Posted July 3 #19 Share Posted July 3 njhorseman. there are also some ncl ships that have both haven and non haven suites. the non haven suites are about 2-3,000 cheaper. the only difference is that on ships with the true "haven complex" if you book a suite, the rooms and perks are identical, you just dont get access to the haven lounge, bar, pool or restaurant. if you book on an ncl ship with both choices, the suite will have breakfast in moderno and lunch in cagneys. if the ship doesnt have a haven complex per se, you will be escorted to cagney's for lunch upon embarkation, and breakfast is available every morning (*with lox and cream cheese) in modernos. given the choice, i will forgo the haven complex extras, and book a "suite" still offers the butler, concierge, etc. and the rooms are identical. that being said, however, wife and i threw caution to the wind and booked a 2 bedroom haven villa on the prima this sept 26th. if you (or anyone) have any interest, i'll comment on this cruise when we get home oct 7th as an aside, cruiseny4life, ncl does not scrimp on the cream cheese

Like you, my next cruise is on Princess for the first time since 2013. However, my sail date is 4 weeks out. Looking forward to having a choice for lox: Buffet or MDR. I've cruised many times in both Haven and non-Haven suites on different class ships. Once again the OP is on Breakaway, and the only suites on Breakaway are Haven suites. Hence if the OP happens to be a suite passenger what you said, which was "if you book a suite, breakfast is always in moderno" is incorrect. On the Breakaway, and other ships of the Breakaway class, suite breakfast will always be in the Haven restaurant, NOT Moderno.
complawyer Posted July 4 #22 Share Posted July 4 njhorseman, you either misread, or misunderstood my post. on ships that have both haven suites, and suites , or just suites, (ie the ncl star) if you are not in a haven suite, or there is no haven suite, breakfast is offered to those passengers in moderno. since the breakaway has no "suite" category, those booked in the "haven" will dine in the haven restaurant. again, if your choices on the specific ncl ship is either the haven complex suites, or the category suite, if you book the "suite" you dont get into the haven complex. for any readers, unfamiliar with the ncl cabin categories, none o f this applies if you book a club balcony suite. while you may get some goodies, you dont get the butler, concierge, etc. again, i was only referring to booking a "suite" category, not the haven category comprende senor? A history of buffet salmon Prior to COVID, the buffet was serving salmon mouse Right after the restart, salmon made a re-appearance on the buffet. It was on our August 2021 cruise. The photo below is our April 2022 cruise. Salmon was also on our August 2022, October 2022 cruise. By April 2023, they were back to Salmon Mouse By May 2023, they were down to just cream cheese Edited July 4 by BirdTravels

I've not misread or misunderstood anything. You still don't seem to understand that this thread was started by a poster on the Breakaway . Rather than answering that poster's simple question you've decided to give a rundown of various options on different classes of staterooms on different classes of ships, most of which is irrelevant to answering the OP's question and just confuses the situation. Once more and for the last time I will quote what you said in your first post before you started covering your tracks with a lot of handwaving and information irrelevant to the OP's question: "if you book a suite, breakfast is always in moderno". NO...that is 100% wrong for someone who is cruising on the Breakaway. Suite breakfast will NEVER be in Moderno on the Breakaway.
