Thank you for today’s FR & D, Rich! It is a gorgeous morning after a whopper of a storm yesterday. Lots of needed rain but the T-storm had Bindi snuggling close. Everything is fresh this morning. Our local deer are using the sidewalk & crosswalks! 🤔 Maybe the grass was too moist for their hooves? 🤷🏻‍♀️

 

Vanessa, thank you for keeping such excellent track of all of us. Hope you find a more permanent solution to the vertigo. 
 

Gym, Bindi walks, lots of prep for this evening’s Limon Drop Fest for my neighbor. Hope the weather cooperates.

The first grapes to fully ripen in our Fraser Valley vineyard, this Siegerrebe has a delightful acidity with flavours of grapefruit and lemon zest resulting from the low temp fermentation and aging on the lees.

Winemaker Notes

Short skin contact for 4-5 hours. Free run was drained into stainless steel tank for fermentation. Low temperature fermentation for 30 days with consecutive aging on primary lees for 3 months post fermentation. “Battonage” ( mixing lees) once a week.

Pairing Recommendations

Perfect with spicy prawn dishes, white meats either grilled or pan fried and strong cheeses
Try with shredded pork carnitas

A lovely cool morning here. If only summer stayed this way. Nothing really planned for today. Perhaps I will watch some of the Olympics. 74 days until my cruise. I just made my car service reservations. I use a local limousine company whenever I go to the airport as I cannot stand driving there. So, everything is all set for the cruise. Just have to wait and pack.

Although the Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963, unfortunately, serious pay discrepancies still exist.  Black Women’s Equal Pay Day symbolizes how far into the year Black women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. Black women typically earn only 66 cents on the dollar to what white, non-Hispanic men make.

 

National Love is Kind Day is a day to celebrate those who have escaped domestic violence or domestic abuse. It is a call for action and awareness for those who are still victims of domestic abuse and domestic violence.

 

Positive thoughts to all who need them.  Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.

Good morning everyone and thank you for the Daily and maps @richwmn.  A great group of days and for equal pay for Black women, equal pay for equal work. I think the quote is worth a laugh.  Thanks for the photos of today's port Sandi!   It looks like an interesting place and I look forward to more.  I will pass on the meal, the minty cocktail but would love to try a wine from British Columbia.    Thanks for locating these for us each day ladies.

We had a nice visit to town yesterday other than my laptop is kaput unless I want to replace the motherboard for the tune of $300 parts and labor.  I decided I will get a new laptop when we return home.  The guy even tried to read my hard drive on another computer and he couldn't.  The movie was meh even John rated it a C.  It will be hot here today so we will go fishing.  The sunrise was red so that indicates smoke so fishing is low activity.  Have a lovely day everyone. We stopped at today’s port, Warnemunde, Germany, this past May while aboard the Zuiderdam.  Rather than taking the very long excursion to Berlin, we took an afternoon excursion that first stopped at Bad Doberan’s gothic cathedral, which was built between 1294 and 1368.  Unlike most cathedrals, this church is in a country setting instead of being in the center of town.  The structure currently is undergoing extensive restoration.  We next rode the Molli, a historic narrow-gauge steam train that gave us views of small towns as well as the countryside.  After our 30 minute ride on the train, we then went to Kühlungsborn, a popular seaside resort town.

Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes. Much appreciated.  We had breakfast out this morning, a tradition I started a number of years ago. Pool party at DD’s this afternoon. Lovely day for the pool. Had we not gotten COVID we would be celebrating my birthday with friends near collingwood and then heading home tomorrow from our vacation.

Good morning all. Yesterday we got the floor of the new shed done and all the walls are standing. It was so hot that after five hours and the threat of thunder storms we decided to complete the roof today. I am so disappointed in myself. One of my jobs was to put the plastic washers on the little screws. My OLD hands had a horrible time doing that.  Maybe I can blame it on having a finger cut off and sewed back, and having my hand crushed from a fire hose. No, it's probably just old age.  I will snap a picture of the finished produce today. I am so blessed to have two sons that help their Mom.

Good morning from another cloudy morning in central Texas.  Yesterday afternoon, we saw the sun for several hours.  It is 74F with 100% humidity since the dew point is 74F.  I really didn't need the weather app to tell me that since the condensation on the window is pretty thick.  Our high this afternoon will be 88F.  Not many plans for today.

 

Not only black women, but everyone should receive equal pay.  Love is Kind day is good, and those suffering from abuse of any kind deserve all the love we can give them.  I'll honor Korean Veterans Armistice Day, but didn't we have it just a few days ago?

In 2005, we began and ended our cruise on Marco Polo in Warnemunde.  While on the Prinsendam Baltic cruise in 2016, we stopped in Warnemunde.

 

These are my pictures from Berlin taken on August 28 and 29, 2005.  At the end of the Marcel Polo cruise, the passengers boarded a private train to a station in what had been east Berlin.  We were traveling with friends, and the four of us managed to get one of the private compartments for the trip.  Once we were in Berlin, there was a bus tour of Berlin and a riverboat tour on the River Spree.  The next day, three of us took a bus to the Brandenburg Gate.  Our friend left us there, and we continued to the Holocaust Memorial, and a self tour of the city.

 

We saw this part of the wall in the former East Berlin.

 

This section was in west Berlin, IIRC.

 

Checkpoint Charlie.  The bus stopped there for a photo op, and we returned the next day to visit the museum shown in the picture right behind the picture of the US GI.  It was a very interesting museum and there were a lot of displays about escapes from East Berlin.

 

 

 

These pictures are from our second day in Berlin.  The Brandenburg Gate and a plaque in the line that marks the location of the Berlin Wall.  The line runs along any part of the wall where the actual wall was torn down.

The shell of this bombed out church was left as a reminder of the war, and the very modern new church beside it.

 

We took a tram out to the 1936 Olympic Stadium.  It was closed, so we could not go inside.

 

Looking from one of the museums on an island in the River Spree between East and West Berlin.  We visited the museum and saw Nefertiti.   For being several millenniums old, she is in good shape.  They also have many other Egyptian artifacts.

Oliver woke me up at 2 am to go out. He ran to the fence and ran back. Om-goodness! 2 skunks!

 

We had an impromptu game of Samba last night. My partner and I won by 1000 points. 

 

4 years ago when we moved here, I ordered a small propane grill. Covered it and it has sat outside on the patio untouched. My girlfriend mentioned buying a grill and I said she could take ours. Her husband came over and wheeled it down the street to their house and will grill a steak on it tonight. Love IS kind!!

In 2016 on our last Baltic cruise on Prinsendam, we were in Warnemunde on August 1.  Since we had been to Berlin, we decided to rent a car and visit some of the towns to the west.  The weather that day was a mixed bag of sun, heavy clouds and rain.  Most of the rain was while we were on the autobahn.

 

That day we visited Lubeck, Schwerin, Wismir, Bad Doberan, and Rostock. 

 

Our first stop was Lubeck, the furthest west we drove.  It is an old walled city known for its gothic style red brick buildings.  In Medieval times it was the capital of the Hanseatic League.  Only the city gate remains of the wall, and it has a decided list as one side is sinking.

It might have been the building above, but somewhere nearby, we were at a high point and these are pictures of Lubeck and the Trave River.

 

This picture was probably taken in Wismir.

 

Schwerin Castle   We could not find a parking place, so we did not tour the castle.

I believe these were taken in Bad Doberan, and we just made it back to the car before it stated raining again.

 

On the way back to the ship, we drove around Rostock, but did not find anything interesting to stop to see.  We also drove around Warnemunde, and  this is the church.
