Good afternoon.  It's been one of those mornings with several unexpected things to take care of.  I think we've got everything done correctly now, but why not give us guidance in filling them out in the first place?

🎂Happy birthday Rich! Many thanks for your dedication.

Karen, Happy Birthday to your dear mom!  🎉

🛳️ Bon Voyage Elizabeth! Time for renewal!

🙏Prayers for Bonnie!

We’re still in Boston!  Will depart 5:00pm, hopefully. Bunkering by TRUCKs! New itinerary. One port dropped, Sydney. But it’s all good!  Ahhh!  Hard to have a bad day on a cruise ship!

Last night we enjoyed our late dinner, I did have to take a nap first though. DH began scouting music venues. I found him in the strings lounge.  Lots of music options!  Wonderful hours for eating. It’s been a long time since we were on Princess. Now I’m remembering many of their good points.  Emerald Princess feels large but not overwhelming. Very glad to be here. It’s really quite Amazing!  Thank you all for your support!

Blessings to all in need, Annie and Chuck, Ann and Pat, more for Bonnie and family and her care team!  And the special needs going in for lindler

And our country and yours!
Cheers for all the joyful celebrations 🥂

Life is Good🌈 One day at a time is Everything

Maureen

@cat shepard Ann, we moved to independent living in an Erickson Senior Living continuing care facility. There are many in the country.  We looked at about 25 places within a 90 min radius of the granddaughter who wanted us closer so she could be oversight contact. No regrets, a lot of adapting. DH and I are 12 yrs apart so it’s a bit awkward. But I’m very grateful we each will have an easier time as needs arise. It’s important to make the change while you can but it’s not an easy call. We each had moms in similar types of residences so we understood the progressions that we might face. We are data gatherers. We did a lot of exploring before we made a choice. Wishing you good learning!  m—

Maureen, I hope you are able to sail this afternoon. I'm glad you able to get out and enjoy Boston today.  I'm still having trouble with using trucks to bunker.

Good morning Dailyites

Wow, thank you for all these beautiful pictures posted.

Thank you for the prayers. They are truly needed right now. I went to Vanessa's care list and made sure I prayed for each individual.

So, like Debbie @dfish I too have a guest toilet that isn't flushing properly. I noticed it after Oliver's party. Hmmm. But since a plumber will be here today anyway.. at the party a wine glass was dropped in the sink on the disposal side. Picked up what I could, reset the disposal switch.. nada.

I will try Debbie's shrimp dishes. All look great! Thank you to our outstanding F and B ladies, and a big thank you to our Birthday Guy today. Rich, I really love your new format on the fleet report!

Wishing you all a great day. Blessings!!

Joy, sending positive thoughts for your sister, Bonnie.  I'm glad all your plumbing problems ar solved.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Hurray for youth, middle kids and milkmen (delivery people).  And 3 cheers as well for Mr. Singer, Mr. Ford's company and whoever decided it would be a good idea for personal computers; where would we be without them?

It's a clear, sunny day out there for us this morning, with a temperature of 13(55), going up to a warm 29(84).  The one thing DH and I noticed yesterday was the difference in colour of the sun in the late afternoon and evening.  It's taken on more of an orange tone which of course signals that fall is soon going to be coming.  It's always a melancholy time for us, as it means our days spent in the yard and evenings on the deck will be coming to an end.  Oh the other hand, we don't have earthquakes, tsunamis, or hurricanes, so we have to be grateful for what we have.

@richwmnHappy Birthday to you!  Wishing you a wonderful day with many happy, healthy returns of the day.

@Seasick Sailorsending prayers for your DS Bonnie.

@Haljo1935Bon Voyage; enjoy your cruise!

@luvteachingwishing your DM a very Happy 98th birthday!

Had a rather upsetting phone call yesterday from a dear cruising friend in North Carolina.  They'd just returned home from a short trip away and it appeared he'd come down with a GI bug of sorts (they thought it was food poisoning); it continued to get worse and his wife tested him for Covid, which turned out positive.  Two days later he collapsed and is currently in the hospital where his condition is listed as "stable".   The hospital said it wasn't the first case they'd had where Covid first showed up as a GI thing.  Scary!!

I'm saying yes to the drink (have them often on BHB's), will let others have the white wine, and maybe if I peeled the zucchini, I could get the zoodles into DH - he doesn't care for the "z" veggie.  We love scampi, so whether it's made with noodles or an alternate, I'm sure it's good.  For dinner we're going to have panko crumbed salmon, garlic roast potatoes and green beans (courtesy DH's DS) on our deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in turmoil, in wars not of their making, and in the path of destructive storms and fires.  Cheers to all who have something to celebrate today.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Gerry, I'm sorry about your friend being so ill.  Sending positive thoughts for a full recovery.

Good morning all!

It has taken awhile to read through 3 pages of the Daily, I've had a lot of interruptions! 🐈 🐈  I think they've finally settled down now for naps.  We're enjoying having the grand-kitties again, but oh my they do get into everything.

We'll get a high of about 70F today, and more sunshine.  Hopefully I can get more done in the back yard.  I've ordered the raised bed, and will get it into place before fall.

Another funny quote, and another good comedian.  I would like everything -- wine, drink and meal.  If we can find some shrimp today we may have that tonight.  Have not been to Castro, Chile and it isn't among the many Chilean ports on the '26 World.  Great photos today, thank you all!

Happy Birthday Rich @richwmn!  Here we are on a BHB on a previous birthday of yours. 😄

Quite impressive!  Thank you for the pictures.

Sharon, we visited the Pima Air and Space Museum way back in 1997 on a road trip to Oakland.  Great museum.

@Vict0riann your post brings up a little local pride.  Martin planes were built in Middle River, MD on the Northeast side of Baltimore.  The train from Baltimore to New York comes within sight of the Martin complex where the plane would have been built.  The end of the runway leads to water leading to the Chesapeake Bay.

Roy, thanks for the information about where the Martin planes were built.

Good morning, Dailyites!  Thanks to all for the Fleet Report and Daily News - especially to Rich, and Happy Birthday, Rich!

Yesterday we had an interesting evening - the last Martin Mars water bomber came to Victoria and will be taken ashore to live out its days at the Aviation Museum.  It was escorted to Patricia Bay by the Snowbirds, and there were flyovers in a number of towns and Victoria.  There was a cruise ship at Ogden Point and the Snowbirds put on quite a show for it.  We watched it all on my computer as we had our supper.  I thought @Copper10-8 might be interestedm, as we still owe him a visit to the Aviation Museum.  It will be on display after September 28.  Now that it is at Pat Bay it has to have wheels put on it then it will be hauled overland to the airport where it will sit on a new pad, especially built for it.

Flying over Victoria with the Snowbirds - and the cruise ship had a great show

Touchdown at Pat Bay

Three times they tried to snag a mooring line and dropped it - finally a little boat helped them get tied up.  Evidently the pilot is 81 years old!

IMG_5339.thumb.jpeg.65d0d10d5951149899f05193c8f1aa2c.jpeg

I imagine there will be another "show" as they take it out of the water and take it to the museum.  We did get a glimpse of it from our driveway as it flew over but it was very far away, and we were actually more concerned with the deer who where watching us, a mama with three babies!

IMG_5297.thumb.jpeg.b63cc6b64a680c3c20928a95f1072ee9.jpeg

Ann, thanks for the pictures of the Martin Mars arriving in Victoria.  Several years ago, cruising friends picked us up at Ogden Point, and we "took" them to the air museum.  It was their first visit.

Good afternoon,

@Seasick Sailor Joy, we did beat you on the bill.  $250.  He had to pull the toilet and go out the main line through that to clear the line.  Tree roots were the problem.  We are set up for regular cleaning once a year.  We were quite lucky we got this done when we did.  The whole line was backed up.  We would have had a huge mess in the lower level.

Now, I hope I am not starting a plumbing epidemic.  No plumbing gremlins allowed!

They're making repeated attempts to get the final stragglers to muster. I think name calling is next. Not "you're a brat," but rather "Jones cabin 10100 please report to your muster station." That's all were waiting on to depart.

Holy quick embarkation; my boarding window was 11:30-12  - approached port door at 10:15am.

I still have the insulated milk box from when we first got married 58 years ago. It sits on my front porch and I use it as a drop if someone has an order they want me to place or drop off money for payment.

We had “Tiny” the milkman deliver to us in NJ until the late 60s or so.   Mom still had insulated milk box when she moved out in 2020.  Gave it to my niece, while she lives in CT and does get milk delivered now (!!!) , she has her own milk box on front porch and is uses the antique as a planter.

I think I'll be quite comfy in here - King bed w/room to move around, but that's almost the most shallow balcony I've ever seen. There are 2 chairs and a foot rest out there (and the ginger ale I spilled), but you have to angle them. They're bigger than those weird little curved balconies on the Eurodam🫣

No insulated box for milk is odd. I've always thought it's strange in TX - right in the thick of Tornado Alley - houses don't have basements. We sure could use a subterranean place to hunker down during storms.

I remember a little box built into the house beside the back door.  It had a little door that opened from the outside for the delivery to be put into, then, on the inside was another door that could open and we could take whatever was delivered.  It was big enough for milk or bread, but not big enough for anyone to crawl through and enter the house.

@puppycanducruise I suspect that the box by the back door was for the ice man. All the vintage apartments in my neighborhood in Chicago used to have them. In my earliest years I also remember an iceman who still came to some homes in a horse drawn wagon. I have always assumed the lack of electric refrigerators in the early 1950's was an artifact of the depression followed by the rationing during WW2. By mid 1950's all of that had changed.

In the 1980's and 1990's we used to get milk in glass bottles from a local family owned dairy and they provided us with a plastic insulated box. One time our milkman made repeated errors so I called the dairy to complain … Mrs. Dairy answered the phone to take my complaint and a few hours later I got an apologetic call from our milkman (she had made him call us ….).  Now that was a real family owned and operated business. I have not mentioned the name of the dairy as they are still in operation, with many dairy stores in the Chicago area, and are no longer so family owned and personally run.

Good evening.

Sorry I am so late and did nto get to post yesterday.  We actually lost power because we had a severe thunderstorm in the afternoon.

all is well now.

We are doing okay—or as best we can.

@cat shepard  Happy birthday.

i noted that you said you are checking out some continuing care community in Jacksonville.  we looked at Cypress Village.  It is very nice but at the time we looked at it we were not ready to make the move.  Now I would be ready to go.  It is right next door to the Mayo Clinic so there is great health care right near by.  There is another place that we looked at in Atlantic Beach but I can’t remember the name.  That was very nice as well and right near the beach.  I would be happy to go to either one of them if I could get my act together.  i am sorry we did not make the move sooner.

@richwmn Happy Birthday.

I have been very tired and not sleeping well.  i am also having some pains in my shoulders and thighs and afraid that my PMR is returning.  I have been weaning off the Prednisone and am down to 4 milligrams.  I was hoping that I would be off the medication by October 26 and am very nervous that I may have to increase the dosage again.  i am so afraid I will have to go through this again.

Hope everyone is well and prayers for all.

God Bless,

Terri

They managed to save most trees in this neighborhood and it was built back in the 60s and 70s.  Most of us in the neighborhood have regular sewer line cleanout due to this.  But, the benefit is that the trees shade the house and keep it cool in the summer.  You can tell the difference in temperature between our house and a tree deprived part of town.  So, let's all plant a tree!

Where we live, the limestone bedrock is just inches below the surface which makes basements a problem.  Growing up, the house nextdoor had a basement, but the lot was at least 4 feet above out lot.  Many houses and farms in Texas have storm cellars.

When we lived in The Woodlands, they preserved as many trees as possible. We had 38 pine trees in our backyard which meant there was very little grass area.  It you wanted to take down a tree more than 4 inches in diameter, you had to get permission from the HOA.

Terri, thank you. It is not my birthday, but I appreciate the sentiment.

Thank you for the suggestions. We toured Westminster Woods. Which is just South of 295 near the Saint John’s River.

I talked to two different couples - one today at Westminster Woods and the other who moved to a place in Palm Coast, who visit my favorites local wine bar - who left Cypress Village within the last year. Both said the quality of service had declined and the staff turnover was a big concern.  And though I love the beach, I would not want to be very near it. There are two places much closer to where I am now, but the draw of the airport and Mayo is big.

I confess my head is whirling from all the info, sights and details of the day.  Lots to think about.

My daughter had water backing up in to her basement.  Tree roots were blocking the main sewer line, and when it was replaced, it was discovered that at some point the pipe had been cut, and the piece just placed back on top.  $15,000 later they had a new sewer line.  Thank goodness their insurance agent suggested they buy insurance for this.

OMG!  Back in Ohio I had water back up in the basement.  The first time I called a company that came out, spent the entire day working on it and finally got the water to drain for the cost of $800.  They said there was a dip in the line and would have to be replaced in the near future.  Six months later the same problem.  I called a local drain and sewer company and sobbed out my story to them.  The guy on the other end asked me what my address was again.  When I told him, he said that he had put all the sewer lines in for my neighborhood and that no one should need to replace those lines at this point. He was at the house 20 minutes later and had the line cleared in 15.  It was tree roots that the previous company never removed.  I had a new best friend.
