My first Celebrity cruise

Hi Guys,

I’m looking to do a nine night cruise in May next year doing the the Italian and Dalmatian coast on the Constellation. I do normally sail with RCI and just wanted to know if they are similar.

Does the ship have a buffet like the Windjammer?

Is it a lot more formal or can we still wear shorts and t-shirts around the ship?

Is the entertainment similar (Quest, bellyflop competition, comedy)?

Is the connecting balcony rooms noisy (you can hear the room next door)?

I’m currently on Platinum with 40 points, how does it work with coming over to Celebrity?

Sorry for all the questions but thank you for helping. [emoji4]

I have found that the food on Celebrity is a step up from Royal Caribbean. Yes, there is a buffet which may be set up in stations depending on the ship. The choice of clothing should be similar. Celebrity does not have those belly flop contests and hairy chest contests. In a sense, more mature adult like. Entertainment is not strong at Celebrity. I expect that you will enjoy your cruise.

We have found that the entertainment is somewhat better on Royal Caribbean. You will note that the energy level on. the ship is not like you have been used to on RCCL. Probably due to the older cruisers on Celebrity.

Thank you for the info. I am travelling with my parents who are in their late 70’s but I’m 38 and will need something to keep me going.

We did this itinerary a little over a year ago on the Constellation. You will love it, still one of our favorite vacations. The entertainment on Celebrity is there, just a little more low key than Royal. We are former Royal cruisers that have stepped up to Celebrity and have not looked back (although back on the Vision next year to experience sailing out of New Orleans). Admittedly we tend to enjoy entertaining ourselves with a book by the pool rather than being a "joiner" in all the activities. The dress on Celebrity is similar to Royal during the day, shorts and t-shirts. The evenings tend to be more "resort casual" most nights. From reading the boards it seems that dress on Royal has become much more casual i.e. shorts and t-shirts in the dining room. I don't think you will see that on Celebrity, but khakis and polos are fine.

As to Crown and Anchor vs. Captain's Club, you will be recognized at the Select level on Celebrity (middle tier). Call the Captain's club and have them assign you a number and they will assign the correct level. There have been some reports recently that this is now being done automatically between the 2 lines with the new "single sign in" procedure on the website, but I would still verify.

Thank you for your info. That has helped a lot. I’ve heard that the 2 lines are meant to be merging though when I did the internet chat with them they did say they are different and will be staying different.

Does the ship have a buffet like the Windjammer? Yes there is the Ocean View Cafe

Is it a lot more formal or can we still wear shorts and t-shirts around the ship? You can still wear shorts and T-shirts during the day around the ship. You may not in the evenings. Celebrity has done away with formal nights and replaced them with Evening Chic which allows for a lot more individual choice, but shorts in the evening are not allowed except in the buffet.

Is the entertainment similar (Quest, bellyflop competition, comedy)?

Entertainment will be two shows at 7 and 9 pm. There will be 2 or 3 production shows with ship entertainment staff and an assortment of visiting entertainers of various types, (singers, comedians, magicians, musicians, etc.) There will be trivia, newlywed-not-so newlywed, etc. You won't find belly flop contests, but will find officers vs. passenger water volleyball.

Is the connecting balcony rooms noisy (you can hear the room next door)?

I've stayed in connecting rooms and found no difference from normal cabins. If you have a noisy neighbor in either one you'll hear them, otherwise no problem.

I’m currently on Platinum with 40 points, how does it work with coming over to Celebrity?

If you're Platinum of Royal, you will be Select of Celebrity. Make sure you call for a Captains Club Number and make sure your Crown and Anchor and Captains Club numbers are noted on your profile and connected with your reservation. The Captains Club number is 1-800-760-0654. They will be very helpful.

Sorry for all the questions but thank you for helping. [emoji4]

Have a great cruise. You'll find the food and service a bit better of Celebrity, but the lines are similar. Royal is a bit more slanted towards families, and Celebrity is a bit more adult oriented and lower key. I think if you enjoy one, you'll have not problems with the other.

Depending on the ship, connecting cabins are different. On the S class ships except for Reflection there is no door on the adjoining wall. The connecting cabin is created by having two doors at the entrance to the cabin. If used as connecting the outer doors are used, if not the inner doors.

While I am not a fan of these contests, or newlywed games, at least other cruise lines give you the OPTION of seeing them. We found Celebrity to be DEAD at night.

I’ll disagree with the ‘dead at night’ comment. There are live bands and dancing, there is the Newlywed/Nearly Wed games, and lots to do. There will be Movies on the aft deck and enough that kept us quite busy along with the standard main shows. A non-smoking Casino! Great stuff if you are looking for Evening festives.

Thanks for clarifying. I’m worried that with the age I am that there won’t be enough for me, personally.

Can I ask if you anyone thinks that the connecting rooms are louder than normal cabins, please?

Just depends on what you or your neighbours plan on doing.... otherwise, usually no.

If you drink alcohol there will be a lively group at the Martini Bar. Also usually a late night comedy show, and check the daily paper and the bulletin board for events you might enjoy They also have a nice gym..

My family did 10 nights on the Constellation in August, my "kids" are 26,27,30 ,34,35... they were never bored and partied well into the wee morning hours

Another thought is, if you swim or like being by pools and hot tubs, you will find plenty of people around your age, to be sure.

As for activities, there are lots of variety to choose from. Not a lot of active type of things, yet there will be a few at the pool.

Do you enjoy art? If so, you can spend a few days finding and looking at the wonderful collection on-board... on each deck, aft to stern..

bon voyage

The Silent Disco is a blast. On Equinox, the moon party was great. We are former Royal cruisers, and even though we are older than you, we think there is plenty to do. There were quite a few passengers around your age on our last cruise. The ones that we chatted with had a great time. You'll have fun. The Martini Bar is really hopping at night.

Just off Celebrity Infinity. I am 68 and have done 3 Celebrity cruises and over 10 with RCCL. I think some really critical components to look at are the month, number of sea days, destination of your cruise and what you require. We have found at certain times and certain itineraries the demographic is really a senior crowd. On our cruise last week the average age I am sure was 60 something. I think we saw maybe 10 adults under 35 on the ship. My daughter and son in law would have been bored. They are late 30's and like many of the elements RCCL has incorporated. If it is too chilly for the pool and you aren't interested in the spa in my opinion there wouldn't be a lot for you to do during the day on Celebrity. See if someone will post an activity sheet and you can see for yourself what there is to do on board. Having said that the shows in the theater were excellent and the Infinity singers and dancers were the best I've seen in 23 cruises. Bottom line (in my opinion) I believe your parents will easily find activities, friends, and spaces on many of the RCCL ships to suit them but you may find it difficult to have fun on SOME Celebrity sailings.

I thought the entertainment on Solstice on our cruise in March / April 2018 was great - but I don't have anything to compare it with in the way of other cruise liners

They had a silent disco two nights, one night they had a 1980's party at the martini bar and they also had a 60's party and a 70's party... we thought the shows were very good and as other posters have said they have a variety of shows like comedians, musical guests and the shows put on by the celebrity dancers / singers.

We actually thought there was too much to do...

We did two cruises on RCL and two on X, I agree with previous posters that there’s a lot of options on X for entertainment, yet it is different from RCL. No surf rider, trampolines, wall climbing etc. But, Silent disco, Karaoke, regular disco, shows, newlywed games, trivia, casino, wine tasting, bars, etc. Interestingly, we may cross each other. We will disembark Constellation on May 31.

Never heard any talk of merger.

Both lines (Celebrity Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines) are owned by Royal Caribbean Internatonal

1) Food is a little better than RCCL. Used to be a LOT better.

I have to base my opinions on the Eclipse(S-Class)Buffet is decent, again it used to be quite a bit better only 2 years ago.

2) During the day the dress style is pretty much the same(on any cruise ship)Shorts T shirts Etc. At night long pants/collared shirts(NO shorts)are the norm in the rest. some dress down after dinner, but MDR will enforce reasonable dress codes

3) Entertainment is more sedate. Thank GOD, NO belly flop completions. It's a cruise ship, NOT a Trailer Trash Jamboree! Evening entertainment is better on large RCCL ships(Allure etc.)Bigger shows Etc.There have been cutbacks across the board on Celebrity, but it is still better than the parent co.

4) Never heard noises from the neighbors. Exception..Doors slamming. This is NOT from intentionally inconsiderate pax. It's really from the air pressure difference between the rooms & hall way(especially if you are in a balcony room & your outside door is not totally closed. We ALL should pay more attention to that fact & hold the handle & not just let it slam.

5) Not sure how the points can be transferred or if they can be.
