BlondieB-I like you!!!!

I wish they'd do like NCL. You can bring as many bottles as you want. You carry them on through security. Security calls someone over from a table, they take your wine, count your bottles, put a sticker on them, have you sign a receipt and then they charge your onboard account. AND you can bring as big as 1.5L. Corkage is $15 for 750ml, 1.5 magnum bottles are $30. I took 6 (regular) bottles on that cruise last month....lasted 6 dinners....had to make up for the crummy food on NCL haha

My question. If you are now allowed to carry on two bottles of wine, why can't you carry on two bottles of beer? What is the difference?

I totally agree with you, it should be 2 bottles, not everyone is wine drinkers. My husband and I personally prefer liquor and am hoping that they they change it to whatever the passenger prefers to bring. This sort of makes me wonder, Champagne & Wine vs. Liquor & Beer, are they accomodating a certain class of people:confused:. I sure hope not, just can't figure out what their reasoning would be for making it just wine & champagne.

I would almost bet the reason is for $$$$$. Most likely they sell more beer and hard alcohol than wine. A dip in wine sales is not going to cost them as much in sales as beer or hard alcohol would.

I kind of understand their reasoning behind not allowing Liquor in your luggage.

Drink a bottle of wine and most people would be merry. Drink a bottle of liquor and most people would be hospitalised!!

There is a big difference in alcohol content and i can imagine a lot of people would go silly. Especially the younger crowd.

I do agree on the beer front though

Last year we brought on the 1.5L and we were charged 15 corkage for each. I guess we got lucky. :)

My thoughts - and they are only my thoughts.... It seems to me they stock a huge variety of liquor and beer. Not so much on the wine. Not just on cruise ships, but everywhere. I "assume" it is because once you open a bottle of wine, it needs to be consumed fairly quickly or it goes "bad", whereas a bottle of liquor doesn't. And beer is a "single serving". So, they don't have to worry about opening a bottle of liquor or beer, pouring one serving, then nobody else orders that for a few days and they have to pour it out. If they limit the wine to 3 or 4 of each varietal, they can limit the waste. But, us wine drinkers would prefer our own "brand" just like beer and liquor drinkers! So I am glad they will let me bring my own wine!

RCI has just come into line with the other mass market lines in allowing wine at embarkation. None of them allows hard liquor or beer, and most limit you to one or two bottles. I imagine that RCI's reasoning is to be on par with the other lines, and they don't see any reason to make the policy more liberal. I also don't see it as accomodating a "class" of people. Wine drinkers cross all social and financial line.:)

But I think it would be nice if they allowed you to purchase a set-up for your cabin, as most of the mass market lines do.

Just received a call from a friend working onboard Oasis. RCCL is going to offer the unlimited alcohol packages on ALL SHIPS, all itineraries.

This is to begin today onboard Oasis. From what I was told, all ships should also be rolling out this program on their next turnaround.

The packages will be sold onboard. A table will be set up next to the other tables offering the soda and water packages.

Eventually you will be able to pre-order and pre pay online, but at this time it's only available for purchase onboard.

Appartently, these packages have been a huge money maker at Celebrity.

The bar staff have gone through additional training on how to watch out for and deal with over intoxication and how to handle guests who have had too much to drink.

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

We did a TA on Celebrity where they offered this pkg. You have to drink an awful lot to make it pay.

Plus both pax have to buy the pkg. So if one doesn't drink or drinks only a little it is not worth it.

Same goes for Diamond, Diamond + and Pinnacle and suite guests. With the special lounges offering complimentary cocktails from 5 to 8:30 it just doesn't make sense.

Maybe if they priced them more reasonably they would be more attractive.

Depending on what you normally drink, it could be a money saver. If you went with the Premium Package (approx. $55/day) you'd only have to drink 8 mixed drinks or 6 glasses of wine per day to break even. If you normally drink the frozen DOD then you'd have to drink less to breakeven. I've seen a lot of people drink far more than that before Muster Drill.

Thought that was only in UK based RCCL cruises/bookings, Celebrity just says "no sharing".

I worked it out that you'd need to down at least five a day to be even which wouldn't be too difficult:), but I didn't factor in that it also includes sodas, fancy coffees and so on.

I guess we just don't drink enough to make it worth while.

Our usual is maybe one drink int he early afternoon, 2 before dinner in the Diamond Lounge and maybe one after dinner in the Casino or Schooner. Sometimes we will have a glass of wine with dinner.

Now that we can bring two bottles of wine per cabin, and that we will begin getting two complimentary bottles of wine for our D+ level, we certainly will not be buying this package! But great for those who will, if this proves to be factual.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Wait... a 9nighter... 55/pp/day... That's almost an extra G on to the trip. Hmmm. I know I can put a few away, but to add the DW's in there would make things interesting. HOWEVER... If it includes soda, coffees, and some others that we don't have details on, it would def make for consideration. Gotta have the good java in the am!

Not gonna work for us.... if we did the $55pp a day deal, that's $770 for a 7 night cruise......sure,we drink, but never have spent that much on a bar bill..........if I did,I wouldn't remember the cruise!

Everyone should stop and think for just a minute. If this a huge money maker on Celebrity and RCCL hopes for the same on their ships, how can this be a money saver for the average drinker? It won't won't be a savings for the average passenger. RCCL will make more money by increasing the volume of alcohol sold. I'm not sure if is a benefit to most passengers to increase the amount of drinking.

Seems as if RCI just can't win.

smugglers claim it isn't about the money but the convenience....now there are complaints that it won't save the pax money but will make RCI money.

So which is it?

Those that want their booze complained they wanted a new policy..seems they are getting it but it isn't good enough.

So the smuggling will probably go on despite it NOT being about $$$...supposedly.
