Shame on you rcl

Recommended Posts

Because if the child is less than 6 its not suggested by rcl and there is a pic here statibg as well that its forbidden..i am not going to put my kids safety in jeopardy so that rcl makes money..they told me yep you cant put the child there.

So you are admitting that your child being in the pullman could put your child at risk and you are upset that RCI has a rule that tries to protect your child? If you don't think it is a risk then let your child sleep there. No one is going to do a bed check.

Oh for crying out loud, grow up already! Sorry, I don't usually get name-cally on threads here, but this "rant" is absolutely ridiculous.

The OP was PERFECTLY FINE with their 5yo sleeping on the Pullman when they originally made the reservation, but NOW they have a problem with it????

And don't give me that "it's not safe if they hit rough seas" baloney -- a small child is NOT going to be thrown out of a Pullman bed unless the ship turns over like the Concordia, plain and simple. At that point, it's not going to matter who was sleeping on which bed -- you'll all be underwater and swimming for the door.

This is simply sour grapes on the part of the OP -- they want something for nothing, at least that's my opinion. The only reason that the cut-off for sleeping in the Pullman is 6yo is because some pencil-pusher in the Risk Management department of the cruise line's insurance company chose that number.

THERE IS NOTHING MAGICAL ABOUT THE AGE OF SIX!

I know kids who can sleep safely in a Pullman at age three, and I know kids whose judgment I wouldn't trust to not do something stupid (like jump out instead of using the ladder) at age twelve. The age of six is nothing more than a number.

And before anyone asks, my own son slept in the Pullman at age three and age four (two different cruises on two different lines) -- he loved his "special bunk bed"!

And the room was set up such that the Pullman was above the double bed anyway, so if he did intentionally make himself fall out of bed (the only way he was going to "fall out" -- there is a railing on those things, you know!), he would have landed on the double bed right underneath him.

OP, just grow up. If your kid is afraid to sleep in a Pullman, you shouldn't have booked one. If you're afraid to have your kid sleep in a Pullman, you shouldn't have booked one. Otherwise, put your kid wherever you want (the kid can even sleep on the floor -- kids can and will sleep anywhere, with or without a sheet / blanket / pillow!) and simply enjoy your cruise!

I completely agree with you on this one.

Absurd comments!

Look in the mirror when using your words!

Really. He used great words, sentence structure, and paragraphs which were not offensive. Espically, compared to what I have seen posted here. If they look in a mirror they will see a person with common sense looking back at them. :)

While it´s unfortunate for you, I can´t really see any fault here with RCI and their rep, unless you very specifically pointed out that it absolutely has to be your kid sleeping in the bunk bed.

Your booking is perfectly fine, the cabin can acommodate your Party, it´s just not to your liking in regards to sleeping Arrangements.

RCI and their reps are not mind Readers, knowing it won´t be acceptable to you to have one of the adults sleep in the bunk.

What idiot would not realize that the intent was to have the kid sleep on the bunk bed. I had that figured out before I got to the problem. Any reasonable person would have mentioned, "Are you aware that children under the age of six are not allowed to use the Pullman bed?"

Then, why when the issue became clear, why didn't the RCI rep say, let me see if I can find out an OV with a pull out sofa?

This is one of the reasons it is better to use a professional TA then to depend on the cruise line reps.

Other cruise lines don't have this same restriction, so you cannot fault the OP if the information is not provided. This is clearly Royal Caribbean's fault.

I do think OP has a valid complaint. People booking through the cruiseline expect these reps to be experts on the ships. We know they are not.

If the bed situation had been explained properly, I'm sure he would have asked for alternatives to this setup.

This is a customer service issue and I don't see why Royal can't work with him to find a better solution.

Exactly! Why would a married couple NOT want to share a bed on vacation? RC dropped the ball on this. If there is even a remote possibility that there could be a violation of policy, the booking rep SHOULD mention it.

Example: During the conversation, if the OP had asked "how many bags can I bring? I'd like to bring a suitcase full of my own liquor. I only drink certain brands." The booking agent would have be remiss to NOT mention that bringing liquor on board is not allowed.

I agree that they should have mentioned the Pullman bed restriction. But I'm sure you can call RCL and have them find you another ocean view with a sofa bed instead. You may have to switch decks depending on availability but I'm sure there is something.

Safety also depends on the cabin layout and your child.....

On the Serenade, my daughter's bunk was over our heads, she would have fallen on us if she rolled out somehow. On a cruise, your child is busy all day and hopefully will sleep like a rock. But, if your child is a wiggly worm at night, it would not be safe. It is too bad that someone did not catch that age limit, especially since you provided the age.

I understand your concern with a stated age limit - I consider that such a rule is set but if your child has slept in a bunk bed before or is average to large for age I cannot see that you can't choose ot have them sleep in the pullman. Mine slept in bunk beds from an early age and always thought it was an adventure.

Hope you find a solution that suits.

Well give Resolutions a chance. Maybe ask if they can upgrade you to a Family OV which I looked and they have the sofa. Looks like about $400 more but maybe they could heavily discount for you given the circumstance.

What I am getting from all this is the OP doesn't want to have to pay additional to upgrade to a cabin with a sofa for his child - even tho he doesn't want to use the Pullman for the child.

He wants Royal to take the responsibility for not informing him and upgrade him for free.

"If" the customer service rep had informed the OP in the beginning about the Pullman age restriction, he more than likely would have moved on to a cabin with a sofa bed, so why not do it now? Problem solved.

Exactly. You might also like to contact a TA who is a cruise specialist. Sometimes they can find a triple room with a sofa bed. We usually find it harder to find the pullman than sofa bed. You can transfer you booking to the TA if they have this configuration and can help you get the type room you feel you need.

I would have made the same mistake. My kids have been on two cruises on Disney and have been sleeping in Pullman beds since three years old. There is no possibility of them falling out of them on Disney because of the rails. How are they setup on rccl ships? We are doing out rccl for future cruises and won't have the kids on our first cruise. It scares me there have been reports of them falling into a bed below. If they fall head first that could have serious health consequences even if it was just a foot or two.

Anyone have close ups of the Pullman beds on rccl and what the railing looks like?

Don't make assumptions. Maybe the OP would have paid more for a different cabin, maybe not. Maybe the cabin upgrade at the time of the booking is less than what it is now.

And yes, the OP could have done some more research, but can someone provide the link on RCI's site that shows you "must" be 6 to sleep in a pullman bed? And let us know what exactly you searched for to find it?

Personally, I wouldn't have thought to even ask the question.

My daughter was 4 on her first royal cruise and slept fine in the Pullman and has ever since they have a rail and I never felt it would be dangerous letting her sleep in it.

I posted but seemed to loose it somehow think site was down. When we first took my daughter on a cruise didn't know better way back when on the majesty my daughter 6?7? Slept on the upper bunk and loved it she couldn't wait. All was fine. As far as the pull out sofa my husband and I have slept on it and it was pretty good just for info.
