What do you all do during late afternoons on sea days?

We tend to hit the pool area in late morning, get lunch and then maybe back to the pool but overall I find afternoons a bit boring, there are usually a couple of shows on sea days but other than that it seems not much is happening, just curious what others do to fill their time?

Sometimes DH and I take a "nap" in the cabin. Work up an appetite for the main dining room. ;)

It's a vacation, after all!

Thinking about having a shuffleboard tournament!🍹

I always swear I'm going to get into a shuffleboard tournament every cruise but it never seems to happen, next cruise has about 20 sea days, so maybe it'll finally happen.

Love those special appetite naps.

Starland Vocal Band, summed it up "Afternoon Delight"

I have to wonder what people do when not at work or on a cruise. There is a whole lot to do on a ship - including just doing mothing. There are many things to do on a ship full of other vacationers which cannot be done at home. Perhaps the one thing you really have to do without is driving a car (possibly in heavy traffic) on some routine errand. Frankly, I have to wonder about people who are stuck for things to do while at sea on a cruise ship.

Agree with that, sometimes there is too much to do.

And love the doing nothing part.

If one isn't a pool person, or the weather if awful, just a few alternatives:

  • attend a lecture
  • attend a recital
  • attend a movie
  • participate in a dance lesson
  • participate in a game of trivia
  • sign up for a wine tasting
  • go to bridge class
  • browse the library
  • sign up for water color painting
  • enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea.

On a sea day one has to work at being bored.

Sea days, read, play bocce ball on the lawn, DH always gets a massage, I might attend the lectures especially if it's a Smithsonian guest speaker.

Our next cruise will be the shortest we've taken, only 11 days, with only one sea day, & the rest long port days, I have a feeling I will spend that day drinking bloody mary's & napping :)

If you're going to drink all day, you have to start early...

ah, sea days...

Coffee, walk the ship, refill coffee, walk the ship, grab danish or two for DW, refill coffee, walk the ship, trivia, walk the ship, take pictures of water, walk the ship, visit DW at pool for 5 minutes, walk the ship, watch presentation in Centrum for 10 minutes, walk the ship, take pictures of ship, start contemplating lovely beverage, stroll ship for the perfect spot to get said beverage, walk the ship, visit DW at pool, decide what to do for lunch, walk the ship, refresh beverage, walk the ship, put $5 on Black, watch sportscenter on tv in casino, refresh beverage, walk the ship, visit DW at pool, go to lunch, return to pool, people watch, refresh beverage, people watch, flip over, people watch, refresh beverage, contemplate level of boredom, walk the ship, find obscure corner of ship to explore, visit DW at pool, refresh beverage, discuss diner options, people watch, discuss how bad the snow is back home, people watch, refresh beverage, head to cabin, nap while DW gets ready for dinner, shower, happy hour before dinner...

Wash, rinse, repeat...:cool::cool:

My husband takes part in activities listed in ship's newsletter.

I read my book and take a nap.

Depending on how late we are talking about, we usually play trivia, maybe hit the casino for a few minutes and head back to our cabin to get ready for dinner and have a glass of wine. Some afternoons we just read, watch TV and read. Hubby love to sit on the balcony and read.

Late afternoon is when I prefer to hit the pools. They're usually less crowded and the sun has had a chance to go down a bit. After that, we'll go to our room to shower and change before going up for a before dinner drink. We almost always have the late seating of traditional dining. Sometimes they'll schedule the production show so that we can see it in the theater before dinner. Other times, we'll go back to the cabin and relax a few minutes before dinner, perhaps with a glass of wine on our balcony.

Hit the gym, then shower/cleanup, afternoon tea :D:D some time with family playing games, some shipboard activity ( auction or entertainment ) then ready for dinner.

The theme: exercise, eat, relax, eat, exercise, relax, eat, relax, eat... lots of eating :p

DW and I actually seek out cruises with lots of sea days (our record is 23 sea days on a single cruise). In fact, on a 14 day Caribbean cruise last year (with 8 ports) we only got off the ship in one port (and then only for less then 30 min) and treated the port days as sea days.

So what do we do in the late afternoon. If the weather is good you will always find us outside in a deckchair with our Kindles. There are days when we are so relaxed that we do not bother leaving our deck chairs until around 6pm.
