We have a boardwalk balcony on the Allure on January 29, 2017, and I am just finding out about this permanent perk for booking a boardwalk balcony. Now, I have already purchased the deluxe package while it was 30% off and I got the wife the refreshment package. Do I cancel the pre-purchased packages and accept the soft drink one and then pay the difference on the ship to upgrade? Has anybody tried to do this onboard and were they successful?

The soda packages are non upgradable and non transferable.

Interesting. I wonder if that is because it's the initial roll out of the program and they're still figuring it out.

I was thinking that they did it this way with the 3-night Harmony cruise because they wouldn't have enough lunch slots available at Jamie's to accommodate all the eligible Central Park balcony people like they would on a regular 7-nighter. (My unused $30 OBC for the Eat Drink Play was applied to my daily tips.).

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see it done differently on each of the 3 ships.

Lol. Me either. Curious as to how they are handling it on this week's Harmony sailing.

While still limited feedback from actual sailings, so far it appears to be a "No".

I think they will need to tweak this program. Another problem is when there are more than 2 people in a Boardwalk balcony cabin, say a family of 4. Royal assigns the soda perk to the first two guests listed, which typically are the parents, irregardless of the possibility they have already purchased a deluxe package and would want the soda packages for the kids instead.

It would be nice if they allow you to select which guests receive the perk, and give you the option to pay to upgrade as well.

Does the Boardwalk Balcony included soda package come with the Freestyle Cup? I don't know if I've seen that mentioned yet. The fountain soda on the ship is generally pretty bad so we only use the package at the Freestyle Machines.

Yes, it comes with the special cup.

The cynic in me thinks these new perks will replace the balcony discounts currently received for these inside balconies eventually. There. I said it. :o

WOW - for what its worth...that thought had crossed my mind as well.

Maybe this is only a trial balloon for future changes in their perks.

Let me make sure I understand what the cynic in you is thinking.....that they will do away with the balcony discount based on your C&A level when you book your cruise when you are booking one of these cabins and getting the Eat, Drink and Play promo?

Here's the paperwork for boardwalk room perks. On a related note, they had Ghostbusters blaring until 1130 in the Aquatheater. It was extremely loud, even with door closed. We had a similar room on the Alllure and it wasn't nearly as loud. Not sure why...

This might have already been answered... just missed it. Does the soda package include the soda sticker on your card? I assume you need to ask for it?

The cards I've seen that have the soda package ordered pre-cruise have a printed Coke logo on the card. Those packages purchased onboard have a sticker.

Thanks for posting this info. Please, Where was the Hospitality Desk? Which deck, near............?

It is located on Royal Promenade. FYI, we just took certificate to JR with us and did not go to hospitality desk. No problems.

Well it looks like there has been a change to the lunch locations on the ED&P perk.

On Nov. 11 the website said:

"The new EAT • DRINK • PLAY complimentary amenities offer guests in Central Park balcony staterooms

Complimentary lunch for two at Giovanni's Table.

Complimentary bottle of red wine in your stateroom.

Private casino gaming lessons from an onboard expert.

The new EAT.PLAY.DRINK complimentary amenities for Neighborhood balconies on Oasis Class ships are available for sailings beginning in November 2016."

Today, Nov. 14 it now says:

"Sail on or after November, 2016 and enjoy exclusive complimentary amenities.

Park View Balcony:

Savor a complimentary lunch for two at Giovanni's Table, Jamie's Italian, Sabor or Johnny Rockets®.

A complimentary bottle of red wine welcomes your arrival.

Step up your game with casino gaming lessons from an onboard expert."

No change to Boardwalk cabins.

Just got off the Oasis yesterday and stayed in a Boardwalk Balcony cabin.

Our cards had stickers on them, not pre-printed.

For those eligible to receive the perk, book your lunch the Italian place immediately when you get on the ship, they book quick. For those with JR, don't wait till last day lunch, it was very crowded on the Harmony last week. Our armed wine was in the cabin when we boarded for our CP cabin.

  • 2 weeks later...
That must have been so frustrating! I am sailing on the Harmony next week and we have a BW balcony. Several months ago, when I was considering purchasing alcohol drink packages for my husband and I, I called C&A and was told that the "free" soda package perk could be used by anyone in the stateroom. So, I went ahead and bought 2 adult drink packages for my husband and I with the intent of using 1 of the soda packages for our teen son and just wasting the other free package.

It is disappointing to read what you experienced. I do not want to purchase a soda package for my son while the 2 we should be entitled to go unused. I e-mailed RC about this last week and received the following response: "I am happy to confirm that you can apply the complimentary soda packages to any guest in the stateroom. Should you require any further assistance, please contact our Reservations Department at 1-800-327-6700 and we will be happy to help."

Of course, what guest services advises frequently does not reflect what actually happens on the ships.

Just following up to let everyone know what happened on the Harmony last week. When we entered our cabin, we had 2 soda cups. None of our 3 cards had the soda package sticker on it. My card had the PP sticker and my husband's card had the SP sticker (the alcohol packages we purchased). I went to guest services and was initially told that the complimentary Boardwalk balcony soda packages could only be used by the 1st and 2nd persons in the cabin (DH and me). I showed her the response I received a few weeks earlier from RC and the rep called someone. She then said ok and put a soda sticker on my son's card and also gave us 2 more soda cups which we really didn't need. I took 2 home and ended up leaving the other 2 in the cabin. I worked out just fine for us.

Agree with what the prior poster said about JR. Go early in the week. The last day was very busy. We went on the 1st sea day and had the place practically to ourselves.

We sailed with my parents on the Nov 12th Harmony sailing. They had a central park balcony. They got the bottle of wine, the offer for a casino lesson, and the free lunch at Jamie's. They were told they only could go to lunch on Friday, the last day of the cruise. When they went they thought it had a limited menu, perhaps for the neighborhood lunch folks. We raved about a pasta dish we had at dinner there, but there were no pasta dishes on their lunch menu.

All and all, they wish they had a sea balcony. The park itself had it's own climate, and was very windy most of the trip. They were also thinking a balcony over the park would be quiet and restful filled with the sounds of guitarists or other calming music. During the day there were Zumba classes on the bridge between pools on the 15th floor. The sound echoed through park, it was ridiculously loud. They never used their balcony.
