Embassy Suites, Renaissance Hotel, Hilton Marina, Pier 66. All on 17th street corridor, though Pier 66 is over the bridge. Nice restaurants around. Kelly's Landing, Bravo Restaurante, Paneretto Pizzeria, Nistro Mezzaluna.

There's a Holiday Inn Express about 5 min. from the port too. We've stayed there many times. We get in usually about 9 or 10 p.m. the night before the cruise and just go to bed, wake up and eat a free breakfast and head to the ship so we don't need anything upscale. We're in a suite on the ship so we don't need fancy just overnight.

They offer a shuttle for about $8 a person. But it's easier and quicker and less hassle to just take a cab.

I was checking out hotels in the Ft Lauderdale area for my friend who is going over the President's Day weekend. They all seem rather expensive to me ... but I checked Trivago and came out with a list of hotels that are rated quite high in customer satisfaction with the price being around $200 or less per night. The key to these are they are in Dania Beach but they have a free airport shuttle and low cost arranged shuttles to the port. They just want to stay overnight in a clean hotel that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and had reasonable or free transportation to Port Everglades. These are the ones I came up with for her.

Cambria Suites

Holiday Inn Express Airport South

Comfort Suites

Crown Plaza

Embassy Suites were rated quite high but so was the price, so didn't include it on the list.

We will be headed to Fort Lauderdale in November for a cruise and figure we should look at hotels. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

You will probably receive many personal choices from members of this forum. I would do my own research and pick a brand that you have had good experiences with.:)

Head to the Florida departure boards. Lots of recs there from the regulars and residents.

We prefer something on the beach. Also we like the Riverside on Las Olas Blvd for the pretty street with lots of restaurants and little shops to enjoy the evening.

We aren't crazy with the 17th St. hotels... only because the street is a busy "any city" atmosphere. We like to feel like we are in Ft. L upon arrival.;)

Do the research. Your needs/wants/budget is what is most important.

We stayed at Pier 66 last time but are cruising in April and I do not want to spend $300 since we are staying for 2 nights. I booked Victoria Place and Suites which was $188 a night and get a great review on Trip Advisor and is only a stones throw away from Las Olas Blvd.

Check out http://www.sunny.org for info on lodging, restaurants, transportation and attractions in Fort Lauderdale.

When in November is your cruise? The first weekend is the International Boat Show and hotel rooms will be expensive and will sell out (possibly some already).

Las Olas Blvd is approximately 2 miles away.
