Chair hogs on Celebrity Summit on Sea Days

Eclipse in May was brilliant. We came out at 8.30am and there was only 1 bed that didn't have shoes, books etc on them but only about 3 people out there. Within 5 minutes the pool guys started removing everything, they took bags, shoes, towel clips. The only issue was the wasted towels they had to put in to wash that someone had clipped and not used.

That would solve the problem.

GOOD FOR THEM!! I wish that were a fleet wide policy.

Could the problem really be that, especially on sea days, folks just lose track of time? What seems like five minutes is actually 20? I understand that folks want what they consider to be "good" places to either sun or not sun. I can also understand groups, four or more individuals, wanting to be together. But a groups desire to have a good vacation doesn’t trump an individual’s desire to have a good vacation. That’s really gang mentality. I don’t really think the issue is the one or two non-occupied loungers scattered throughout the mass of loungers. I think the issue is the blocks of unoccupied loungers that are “saved”. I’m fairly certain that most folks would not care for someone parking and taking up two or three “choice” parking places in the mall parking lot during Christmas. The bigger the group the greater the responsibility in not infringing on another person’s vacation time.

If I have to get up at 6:00 a.m. on vacation to get a lounger by the pool something is really wrong. I mean its vacation... Don't people sleep in anymore? I hope when we go in January on Summit there is sun on my balcony because I won't be on the pool deck by 6 a.m. or ever 8:30 a.m.. ;)

The chair hogs get up early, put their junk on loungers by the pool to save them, go back to bed, get up and have breakfast and then go to their reserved pool loungers at their leisure around noon.

In VERY FEW cases, maybe. 99.9% of the time, definitely not.

What happens when the original people return, is there agresin towards the person now , in their eyes, on their chair?

As with any threat, you call a staff member over to intervene if someone is being hostile towards you.

It's happened to me! And it was after I had been sitting in the chair for well over 2 hours before anyone showed up.

A few "f words" were tossed at me, some threats, evil glares, but no overt physical threat. They shut up quick when they saw ship's personnel heading in their direction. Somehow though, people sort of "got in the way" as they tried to beat a hasty retreat. :D

No idea what happened, but after they were escorted away from the pool, we never saw them again.

We removed some towels a few cruises ago. The folk sitting next to the loungers said no one had been there for hours. We sat there for about 1.5 hour before some people came by and said "these are our chairs, we were saving them". I said, "they were not saved when we got here" and stayed put.

They grumbled a bit but got chairs elsewhere. I understand going swimming and expecting your loungers to be there when you return, but leaving them for hours and expecting them to be there upon your return is unreasonable and selfish.

Ok...you head to the pool.you see chairs with towels on them...ok...you're pissed. BUT...are there ANY other vacant chairs? I bet there are! Take one of those! Don't worry about the "saved" chairs! Now...if there are NO other chairs anywhere...and I mean NO CHAIRS...then move a towel and sit....it's not hard and you shouldn't get so upset this far in advance! Lordy!

Aren't you the lucky one..to be on a cruise at all? Think of it that way!

This is NOT a cruiseship issue..at any resort, this will happen. Adults deal with it... spoiled people throw a fit. Which are you?

I have been on over 50 cruises and ADULTS are selfish spoiled brats and save chairs to the point there are no chairs. People will go ashore but leave their "stuff" on chairs all day. I would like to throw their stuff over the side of the ship. I recognized the same stuff on the same chairs day after day. The people would show up after lunch.

Really?!?!?!?! I thought switching from RCCL to X would eliminate chair hogs. I guess every line has them.

No difference betwen the two...used to be but not anymore!

I love chair hogs! I take a look for "reserved" loungers on the way to breakfast and pick out the spot I want. If they are still "reserved" when I am finished with breakfast, I pick out the best equipped lounger - free sunglasses, paperback book, flip flops my size, etc and I'm all set. BTW, I'm a pretty big guy who rides motorcycles - and I look like it - so nobody has threatened me yet when they find me in "their" lounger. :D

And I bet they don't mind at all that you're wearing their flip flops.:D

We were on the 6/19 sailing of the Summit to Bermuda. Good luck trying to find a chair in the Solarium at any time of the day. People must be there in the middle of the night reserving the chairs. And yes, there are lots of little cards talking about no reserving of chairs and people just pick them up and throw them on the floor or put them in a pile somewhere. Everyone ignored them. We never saw any policing of the empty chairs. But equally important is there simply are not enough chairs in the Solarium. There is room for plenty more chairs. In fact, there were more chairs when they had the old wooden chairs but there simply are not enough of the new chairs. There is lots of empty space to put more chairs.

I would not want any of those chairs, with the exception of the ones on the end. There is not 1/2 inch of space between them. Looks like you have to crawl to the head of the chair from the bottom up. How on earth do people actually get IN them? Must be very entertaining watching that.

Save a couple of chairs for us too. We'll be there after lunch.
