Can't bring soda on board anymore

I haven't cruised since the fall but there has always been a large bottle in the room with a little tag on it with the price-3.50 maybe?

... I know we can buy Red Bull on the ship, but they charge almost $5 PER CAN. That's prohibitive. We cannot buy Coke products on the ship. I haven't found the pricing for the water online yet, but what I've seen in this thread shows that price to be absolutely ridiculous.

FWIW, previously posted ... following prices were valid on the Breakway in our late May 2016 sailing - based on Mini Bar list (attached) plus an 18% restocking fee / replenishment.

Pepsi products (12 oz. can) - $2.95 per can

Bottled Water 1L (33.8 oz) - $5.50

San Pellegrino 750ml (25.4 oz) - $5.50

It is wishful thinking, IMHO, that soda and bottled water pricing will be lowered with the introduction of this new policy scheduled in 2 weeks to soften a hard landing for many.

I rather be proven wrong but all you need to take a look is their recent pricing trends for the iConcierge App for calling & texting onboard - went from $7.95 per device to $9.95 and $12.95 ... this week, reported to be as high as $14.95. Apples vs. Oranges in the comparison, I'll say it but the patterning is there.

Funny in how other cruiselines are charging less for these products and yet doing nicely on their financials, but, never enough for NCL - perhaps, it has to do with its massive debts for the new ships.

Just wait till NCL start charging for Priority Disembark and Express Walk-Off ... and, an easy one to get rich - Checked Luggage & Excess Baggage fees and fees for selecting one's stateroom/suite, etc. The possibilities are endless with the new spins on Freestyle Cruising.

Change is good. For Some. Not so much, for others. Customers satisfactions - are just, collateral damage.

The funny thing about this "I hate brand X" soft drink thing is that in most blind taste tests, most people do not correctly identify the brand of any of the drinks offered. :D

I would have fallen into that group for DC or DP BUT Diet Pepsi changed the sweetener and it is no longer drinkable to me. I threw away 4 cans of it thinking it was bad before I heard of the change. Do sucks now, I'm screwed now I don't drink coffee or tea.

So the 59.95 that they charge for a case of 24 1L bottles, plus 18% is a bargain.

What about alcohol you buy for people as gifts or for yourself to take home?

Is this also now not allowed?

If it is bought ashore and is NOT opened then all that happens is that they will take it off you when re-boarding and then return it to you on the last night at sea.

Some stonking deals on Oceania through the UK on a limited number of trips.

(some include the beverage package)

Just one more excuse for gaining a few extra $$$ on the back of the fear being generated by terrorist activities. I always knew our Alaskan cruise was going to be an expensive one, something we wouldn't normally stretch to, but I am increasingly certain that, based on the way the costs are stacking up, NCL won't be getting future custom from us. The drinks (and packages) are ridiculously priced. We wanted to spend our holiday fund on excursions and enjoying Alaska, not funding the basics of day-to-day life aboard.

Well if any of you see me on your cruise and I am in the casino, tap me n the shoulder and ask for a bottled water. I get them free while playing and I do not drink water. Bottled or not it leaves an after taste. Well seeing they are pretty much the same water anyway... :)

I think I could do more more damage to someone's "safety" with a heavy glass wine bottle then a 12 ounce plastic bottle.

Just saying....

Safety haha what a crock.

just curious do you think people have the equipment at home to shrink wrap a 24 pack of bottles? you know when you buy them in any store they have that heavy duty plastic all around them.

I worked in a store for years where we shrunk wrap baskets, and our plastic was nothing like the stuff around water bottles.

My post went right over your head

They already charge you to select your stateroom that's why a guarantee cabin is lower

If I want a drink I get it at the casino for free. If my DH wants a coke he gets it at the casino for free. Problem is that he tends to spend more time in the cabin than I do and likes to read or watch TV and a tiny glass of coke is not what he wants. He wants a 12 oz bottle or two.

I've had more and more trouble getting him to cruise lately and this may be the last straw.

Even if we went with Pepsi would both of us need the UDP. DH does not drink alcohol and my occasional one comes from the casino. This makes no sense. I purchased the max number of cruise next certificates on my last cruise and I will probably be looking for a refund on them or denying payment to the CC company since their product is not what it was when I bought it.

riddle me this "do the T&Cs for the CruiseNext certificates guarantee future cruises to have same promos, services, prices, ships, itineraries, etc that are available at the time of purchase?"

I might just call and dispute my November cruise, when I used a CruiseNext certificate because my itinerary now arrives in GSC on Thursday instead of Wednesday when I bought it..... damn NCL

and while I'm at it..... I'm going to write a letter to Congress because the frickin prices have increased and the model TV I wanted was discontinued at Best Buy after I bought a gift card.... the products and prices available to me at the time I bought the gift card are no longer available

well, i'm disappointed. I dislike pepsi products. that's the only reason I wanted to bring diet coke on board. if they had diet coke products on the ship I wouldn't have bothered. I guess now at least I won't have to figure out how I was going to buy diet coke between our flight landing and boarding the ship.

Same here except it's my husband who drinks soda. NCL is a home port for us and we like their suite life, but not sure about this new item.

I never bring water have never found an issue with the water on board. Not sure how or if this will be an issue.

Let's see if another line starts to come to Boston more often that serves Coke products.

We set sail in September on PoA from Hawaii. We had already planned to buy soda and water, to bring onboard. Now with this latest change I probably will NEVER cruise with NCL.

I'm hoping RCL and PCL don't follow NCL policy.

Another scam to make you pay for their overpriced bottled water, and soda.

Very disappointed, since this is my first cruise with NCL.

Discontent.

I wonder if NCL is going to warn anyone with an upcoming sailing about the change in policy?

Ohhhhh yesss!! I got home last night to their email (the first of four: one for myself and one for my wife...per week of our cruise). Rather took the edge off a pleasant evening.

We sail in late August. It's too late to change our arrangements now but it is tempting to tell them where to stick their money-grabbing scheme.

Unimpressed.

I fully understand and support your sentiments: an Alaskan cruise was something I have long been tempted to do. This is our first and probably last cruise - I object to cash being extracted so blatantly at every opportunity.

Increasingly Irritated

Not sure if the old saw been mentioned - It takes longer to gain a good reputation then to lose one . Not sure if this is true today . Certainly seems that NCL doesn't believe it .

I guess NCL believes that CC types who compare and keep up with changes (and care) are the distinct minority . They must also believe that talk is cheap . All these threats of cancellation are meaningless . Actual booking numbers will tell the tale .

We are booked on quite a few NCL cruises, but have NOT received any email notification about this change in policy.

What is interesting is that we are still in a time period where we could cancel all of our reservations withOUT penalty.

It appears that NCL is *only* notifying passengers once their cancellation penalties are already in place.

If this is correct, then that is *really* sleazy.

Has ANYONE who is NOT yet within any penalty for cancelling received a communication directly from NCL about this new policy?

???

RCL already has this policy. They just don't always enforce it.
