Just found out that Better Beverage Package is Classic - question

We were on a RCL Oasis cruise last week and booked the Go Better Beverage Package w/gratuities. The RCL rep really wasn't too familiar with Celebrity's policies.

When I came home I checked online and found out that the Go Better Package was for the Classic Beverage Package and not the Premium. This will not work for us. DH is a big time Martini drinker as well as specialty coffees.

Question: Does Celebrity ever come up with a discounted rate to upgrade from Classic to Premium? Would we be able to use this if we have the GoBetter Classic Bev Package already?

Wondering if we should bite the bullet now and pay the $11.50 per person per day to go to the Premium package.

Thanks

The price is per person and there is no requirement that both people in a cabin have the same, or any drink package.

The Classic Package does include most, if not all, the coffee drinks. We did not find any coffee drinks not included in our Classic Packages last winter, but we did not try them all.

Is that $11.80 daily upgrade for two people, or is it for $11.80 daily for each person? Don't each person in a cabin have to have the same level of drink package?

Also, the Celebrity cruise rep told me that the Classic package includes specialty coffees. Was she wrong?

The upgraded package is $11.80 per person per day.

Yes, the Classic package includes coffee.

Have a great cruise:)

Prior to our sailing on the Reflection a couple of years ago there was a special that offered 10% back in OBC for onboard amenities purchased before sailing. I upgraded my beverage package and used the additional OBC toward my husbands when we boarded.

Before making a decision to upgrade, do some research to see if the Classic Package will be sufficient. No need to upgrade if the Classic package includes the brands and drinks you would normally order.

So, go onto the Celebrity website, then select "Onboard Experience" then "Beverage Packages" then "Premium, Classic, Standard". Once you are into those options, click on the link for the Classic package (it's highlighted) and you will get the page that lists the brands and drinks you can order on both the Classic and Premium packages. It will help make the decision easier.

Also, you do not need to upgrade the first day....wait a day or two and see what works for you. If you have OBC - use that to offset the upgrade cost instead of paying pre-cruise.

Remember, it's also good for bottled water and most, but not all, beverages at Café al Bacio. Love their cappuccinos!!

The big problem with the Classic Package is that any drinks over its limit will cost you full price. So basically one drink a day over the Classic limit pays for the Premium Package upgrade for that day. The Premium Package not only includes a higher limit, any drinks over the limit only cost you the excess amount.

You might want to consider that you can upgrade any time (it is prorated) so, if you are not sure you want or need the Premium...there is no rush. Try to live with the Classic package for a few hours, a day, or several days. If, and when, you decide you want something that is only available on the Premium Package, just tell the bar tender or waiter to upgrade you at that time.

At this point you might as well well "go best" because that does come with the premium drink package, then you will also get $150 OBC per person and internet. So as long as this is a 7 day cruise it will cost you $160pp more but get $80 for drink package, $150 OBC and I'm guessing about $100 in internet. That's $330 for $160, definitely worth it.

We upgraded before boarding. The rep asked whether I was upgrading just mine or my wife's as well. I don't think I would want to live in the same house with her if I only upgraded mine. So, you don't have to upgrade the whole cabin.

Just reviewed your instructions and I think we can stick with Classic Package. (Thanks!)

We spend lots of time at martini bar.

One thing that I'd like to clarify though....I read somewhere that "tiny" martinis are available at martini bar.

I usually drink espresso martinis and DH drinks dirty martinis w/stoli.

Do many people do these "tiny" martinis on the Classic Package vs. larger martinis on Premium package at Martini Bar?

Thanks so much!

Just looking for clarification on "any drinks over its limit will cost you full price". Are you saying there are a certain number of drinks per person / per day? Or if you ask for a alcohol that is on the "premium list" you will pay full price?

I have been on 2 cruises, one with Carnival with the old man, and on Princess to Alaska with my mother. I loved both cruises, having done my research and prepaid for bottomless bubbles and preordered bottles of vodka, so was never surprised by a final bar bill. But now, my old man and I have the Classic alcohol package and 300.00 obc and paid gratuities on our South Carribean cruise in April, so we are upgrading to Premium as soon as we get onboard. We are going to be able to order the drinks of the day, and other drinks we see on the menus, and then there's the Martini Bar!..... I am so excited, though I'm not a big drinker. But, I also don't live in luxury on a cruise ship either. So for seven glorious days, I could be a big drinker, because I can order any virgin drink I want, too. This is all-inclusive now. I can't wait.

My husband and I enjoy the Martini Bar too. It's such a fun place to go before dinner. You can order the martini's you listed and you will see many others with the same "petite" glasses as yours. The service staff are great and will serve those with the Classic package with as much courtesy as those with the Premium package.

Enjoy your cruise!!

There's a great deal of inconsistency in this area. We have been on cruises where they will not make any martini at the martini bar that is on the classic package...even though they have the regular martini glasses....they just refuse. We have been on cruises where they will make any of four martinis for those on the classic package...Cosmopolitan, Dirty, regular and one other...using the classic package vodka in the smaller glass. We have never seen them willing to make any martini or your choice in a smaller glass.

There is no way to predict what will happen on your cruise.

As mentioned previously, there is no consistency.

On our recent Summit cruise, we stopped at the Martini bar each night. I had the Classic package and ordered a Dirty Martini each time while my wife had the Premium and ordered the same thing, but with Belvedere Vodka. We enjoyed a few drinks after dinner each time, on our way to the Casino. Regular sized glasses, no issues.

On the third night, the bartender put my Martini in a giant Margarita glass that he had set aside. He thought he was funny, as did the other guests! I gladly accepted it and walked to the Casino. Technically, I only had 1 drink that night :p
